I know everyone are shitting on the HOT D characters and how flawed they all are, but let’s go back to GOT’s most EVIL characters. Do you remember how much you HATED Joffrey Baratheon? Do you remember what happened after the Red Wedding? Robb’s head was beheaded and they put a wolf mask to mock him. Catelyn had her head cut off and they threw her body over a river! And Joffrey was celebrating when he heard all this.
Prior to that, Joffrey forced Sansa to look at her father’s head on a spike. He was sadistic with whores and killed Ros with his crossbow while she was tied. He would call his Uncle Jaime (who was really his dad) worthless. The shit that some of these characters in HOT D have done look SAINTLY compared to the shit some of the most evil characters did in GOT. There’s a number of shitty characters in GOT that would make you want to root for Alicent or anyone you hate the most in HOT D. They’re more chill compared to the animals we saw in GOT.

I mean the real problem is horrible and greedy executives who want to make the most money while spending the least amount of cash. But I feel like the biggest issue is the fact that no matter what happens, the next ‘game of thrones’ series is gonna get a lot of views, same with the next DC movie/ show, marvel movie/tv show. It doesn’t matter how much work or heart actually goes into the series, people will watch it. The biggest showing of this was the newest Invincible season, idk if yall have seen it but they basically cut all the animation budget, set up fake stakes and then resolved them all right away, etc etc. because no matter what, people will watch it after their popular, well thought out, and expensive first season. From what I've heard the budget was 60M per episode which makes it 480M for 8 episodes.. so risking all 480M just to save 120M is absolutely effin nuts ! just cancel the show and save the all 480M rather than providing a crappy season like they did

Cut 2 episodes and make the wait 2 years before the next. It was a very uneventful season finale for season 2. That last episode was like a very long trailer for next season

That's pretty much it. I don't think I care, if it's 8 or 10 episodes as long there is 60mins or longer episodes, but waiting 2 years for "couple" more episode feels quite meh. I wonder though, if that would mean they end up making 5 seasons, if they make only 8 episodes?
It's funny though as Season 2 was quite good up to Episode 8, if there would have been Ep 9 and 10, but with it being only 8 it kind of missed something of Finale.
Honestly the ending was so unsatisfying that I don't think I'll end up watching Knights of the seven kingdoms, and if I do i will binge it all after they are finished

The actors/writers' strikes may have been one of the things that hurt WB financially... but, concerning HOTD, all 10 scripts were already done before the strike happened. So, the writers' strike would not have directly affected the show very much if they had been allowed to film all 10 episodes as planned.
the reason to cut the budget is so disconnected from HOTD that no one making decisions is even considering the backlash from 10-8. They prob dont think its that big of a deal

Oh I wouldn't say that's the case if you reference their past record. For over 20 years, Warner Bros was a top flight studio with hit after box office hit and a thriving television production wing. They drove up truckloads of money for their DCEU movies in a vain gambit to catch up to the MCU's success and they lost big time in the end. After "Wonder Woman" and "Aquaman", they got hammered at the box office with failure following underperformance followed by consecutive failures, culminating in the total financial collapse of "The Flash" and with "Blue Beetle" tanking. They saw nothing but red ink accumulate on their balance sheets. This, coupled with the acquisition costs Charlie mentioned, the colossal loss Project Popcorn, (their day and date release scheme to show their entire 2021 movie slate on HBOmax while they ran in theatres) considerably cutting box office revenues for them and their production partners. Project Popcorn didn't drive up subscription numbers to their streaming service and WBD's debt load, already overextended, got worse. In short, it presented a looming financial fiasco for WBD and David Zaslav had no choice but to restructure the studios and their operations. He mandated budget cuts on every division of the company, laid off hundreds of day-to-day working staff, cancelled a shit-tonne of film and streaming projects that were in development and finally, cancelled another large group of streaming series that were already airing. All of these measures, are yet to pay off in drastically reducing their debt level which is currently estimated to be around $35 - 39 billion, not counting the interest owed on it. When you're that deep in the hole, you have to get proactive and take action lest you have to declare bankruptcy down the road ...if you don't.
That's exactly how I felt after watching the "finale"....didn't feel like a season finale at all....maybe a second last episode setting up the finale...but more as Charlie said, like ep 8 of a 10 episode season.
It makes more sense, when you hear the original plan they had for 10 episodes during season 2.

They condensed the season and it still felt dragged out.
It was primarily written for 10 eps... its not easy to condense things perfectly, with last minute calls and also to meet deadlines. I guess they would have delayed season 2 release even more to fit the story better for 8 eps..
I guess if you have less budget you can't put in the big battles, they basically put in filler i guess because they couldn't afford the last 2 episodes.

Why didn’t they just take the funds from the new GOT series they are launching “knight of the seven kingdoms” next year to just invest in HotD. If they can’t even launch HotD properly due to funding why are they trying to squeeze in another show? Same viewership.. not going to create a whole new army of viewers. Might as well just do each show properly instead of launching all these spinoffs.

Peter Jackson filmed all three at the same time. If HOTD had prepped season 1 and 2 at the same time and filmed season 2 while season 1 was in post production and stayed a season ahead there wouldn't be a two year wait. You n me both. The way they ended game of thrones was unacceptable. Another show I just finished that made me so upset was the umbrella academy. I thought got was bad shit.... the umbrella academy was tje worst ending I've ever seen in a show that I really liked. The show was great till the last season jus like got. Makes u wonder why I pit so much time into the shows jus to be so disappointed at the end years later. Why do writers keep destroying the end of great tv shows? Give them the episodes they need to give the story the ending that they deserve.
I whole heartedly agree. The battle at the God’s Eye between Daemon and Aemond cannot be messed with. They already changed up Blood & Cheese too much. Also, if they don’t have the showdown between Aegon and Rhaenyra and the outcome mentioned on GoT, that would be messing with canon.

HotD is so good... I didnt realise till half way through season 2, then rewatched 1 and 2....cinematically it's absolutely top tier, the performances are brilliant....but the ending definitely felt like it begged another 2 episodes.

GOT's later season got bad because they ran out book material to follow. HOTD has so much material from that books that they don't want to do. Weird.
I think its the right choice though, what we know of the Dance of the Dragons from the books isnt 100% fact. Its the retelling of stories from various random people and their own accounts of how things played out. It makes sense to change the story in the show because they arent telling us the story concocted by the survivors, theyre telling us their own personal take on what really went down. I think thats a pretty cool avenue to go down.
Dance is an outline written from biased perspectives who weren’t even there. HOTD book to television would have been 1 season tops. Book wankers need to chill & enjoy the juicy story they are giving us. I say this as the book wanker who has read F&B more than anyone in this comment section…likely combined.

And as long as the writers are 100% committed to the project which they seem to be unlike GoT's later seasons they will come up with something good, even with budget cuts if they are even given time and opportunity
There is no money to do the action stuff. Hence two episodes were cut which would've covered the fall of KL and Battle of The Gullet. So you can't blame the producers who wrote a full 10 episode season for the studio's choice to cut the last two.
It’s still bad. We understand that hbo made the writers chop off 2 episodes thus making them have to condense a lot of key plot into only 8 episodes. The problem is that they wasted incredibly valuable screen time with their absurd choices for what scenes stayed and which ones were cut. How did they cut a battle or something big in favor of the roughly 20 mins wasted on the mud wrestling and teleportation of Alicent to Dragon Stone? That’s literally worse than treason or kinslaying.

Them changing Aemond and Daemons ending really irritates me. All of us book readers have known spoilers going back to the start of GOT. Why chop of Ned Starks head? It was a potential spoiler... WB and these writers will end up ruining this show too

It’s not smart from a business perspective to cut funds to one your biggest money making projects. HBO is the most expensive channel I pay for and I have a lot of channels. The least they could do is give us our moneys worth. 8 episodes and we have to wait 2 yrs in between seasons, it’s ridiculous. They should have started writing season 3 as soon as they were done with production of season 2, then start filming season 3 as soon as writing was done. Wth are they waiting so long for. No other show does this. And yea we’re getting a knight of the 7 kingdoms but that’s a completely different staff so they can both work at the same time. The whole thing is annoying. I liked this season don’t get me wrong, but it had a lot of problems and could have been so much better. For what it’s worth pay for hbo I should get quality. This season was not quality, let’s be honest. And I knew a lot of it was the strike and they couldn’t change things as they were working. But then they cut 2 episodes which through the whole thing off. Plus it was endless scenes of Rhaenna running through the vale which we didn’t need, and not enough of what we did need. So I really hope they do a better job of putting together season 3 especially since we have to wait 2 years for it.

yeah same here, i searched and he said HBO released them and i searched all over and i dont even see people talking about it besides this vid. he said HBO released a couple times. he even says recently released.
@@incredible5587 yeah he's talking about the "inside the episode" documentaries released on the GoT official channel every week after the episode airs, which has a few scenes and Ryan providing the backstory thats it .. full episodes cant be released as they weren't filmed, if they were filmed than why wouldn't they release them as e9,10 instead of releasing them later as BTS and waste them if they had already filmed it and spent money on it .. i rewatched the video and Charlie is very clearly saying that they were stopped and told to do 8 episodes just weeks before the filming and thats what caused the mess coz there was writers strike going on and the actors, directors etc had to do the changes im the script without the help of the original proper script writers

When they watched it internally they should have realized since they can't have 10 episodes that the season should have ended with ep7 and that crazy last 20 minutes. It wouldn't leave a bitter taste if they ended it there.

Two more episodes would not fix the atrocious writing. Almost all characters have done a 180 in terms of their personality and were stuck in loops of doing/saying the same shit over and over again. They don't have the budget for the spectacle-oriented audience, which comes for the dragons and battles, and they don't have decent writers to entertain those who come for politics and court scheming either. HotD has nothing to offer anymore.
Warner is really good at not releasing things. Somebody should hack them and dump all the movies and shows they’ve decided to not drop for no reason
