    4:46 „why there are so many people in here”
    Those masked women were the Silent Sisters, we’ve seen them before in HotD and GoT. They are the ones who prepare the bodies for the final journey. So, having them present in that room and Alicent nervously glancing at them was to show that Aegon is literally just balancing between life and death.

    The lady who opens the door to Elinda (Rhaenyra's lady in waiting sent to King's Landing by Mysaria) is Dyanna... she was the one SA'd by Aegon in season 1 and sent away by Alicent. I appreciated seeing how shaken Criston was by the battle. Despite having experience, it’s completely new territory for him. Unlike most I didn’t see that council scene as Alicent “finally getting a taste of her own medicine”. Alicent’s arguably the female character in the main cast that’s been most affected by misogyny and she’s very aware of it, she spoke about it very candidly with Rhaenys.
    Her putting Aegon in the throne was never about Rhaenyra being a woman, it was about the safety of her sons. Volunteering to be regent wasn’t because she suddenly forgot that the men around her don’t respect a woman’s authority, it was a desperate plea to keep Aemond from getting more power right after nearly killing her other son.

      It's not so much about the misogyny but about the consequences of her actions finally catching up with her. Aemond is only on the throne now because of her actions & let's be honest, she _wanted_ to believe Viserys wanted Aegon on the throne. Logically, it made no sense he would suddenly change his mind after adamantly declaring Rhaenyra for years but she blindly ignored that because it didn't suit her own ambitions. And she ignored it again when she found out she misunderstood Viserys' dying words. It was nice to see her finally feel the effects and consequences of everything she caused out of spite.

    • @vadalia3860
      @vadalia3860 Před měsícem +8

      The problem with your claim that usurping Rhaenyra was never about her being a woman ignores that it relies completely on Rhaenyra being a woman to work. If Rhaenyra was Viserys' firstborn son, there would be no chance for Aegon to be on the throne (whether or not Alicent feared for her sons from their half-brother) Alicent took advantage of Westeros' widespread misogyny as the mechanism to usurp Rhaenyra and set her aside for a man despite her being Viserys' chosen heir, and now Alicent herself is being set aside for a man despite otherwise being the best & obvious choice for Regent.

    I think a significant detail you might have missed in this ep, is that Daemond told the Blackwoods "there are some things the crown can't be seen doing" so while he did tell them to hurt the Brackens he told them to do it in secret (aka using the Blackwood vs. Bracken feud as an excuse, to weaken the Brackens so they'd be more likely to bend the knee or maybe so he could come in as a hero with a reconciliation/saving them later, not entirely sure on his thought process for how this would work tbh), but instead the Blackwoods flew the Targeryan Banner while committing the atrocities outing the fact that it was a royal order to do this. This is why, Daemon can be seen panicking when they mention the flag because he knows he messed up, he just made yet another enemy for him and Rhaenyra and weakened both their claims because now their name is linked to this horrible act, when what he intended was to keep both their names "clean" and make it seem like it was just the Blackwoods independently attacking the Brackens.

    The thinking is that you don't necessarily have to be of noble blood, but descended from the people of Valyria. The dragonriders are supposedly bonded to their dragons through some kind of Valyrian blood magic. If the Vakyrian blood is "thin" (aka the potential rider is the descendant of a branch of the family that married other families for a couple of generations before marrying back into a Valyrian line) then the dragons won't accept the rider. This is why the Velaryons and the Targaryens intermarried between their families so much (and why Corlys was so pissed when Viserys chose Alicent over Laena), and why the Targaryens marry their own siblings and cousins as often as they do. "Thinning out" their Valyrian blood too much would mean that they were less likely to be able to tame and claim a dragon.
    (Putting eggs in the cradles to bond with the kids from birth came later; when Rhaenyra's first son was born, Viserys decreed he should have a "cradle egg" as a subtle way of proving that the boy was true Valyrian blood and put an end to the rumors he was a bastard. When Aegon and Helaena's kids were born, he couldn't admit he had only given cradle eggs to prove Rhaenyra's kids weren't bastards, so eggs were given to Helaena's children as well, and later to Rhaenyra's 2 sons by Daemon.)
    We will see going forward just how much Valyrian blood, if any, you really have to have in order to claim an adult dragon.

    it would be hypocritical for team green to appoint Alicent as the regent after all this time. the whole reason this war is happening is because they denied Rhaenyra, a woman, the right to rule, despite the fact that Viserys cemented her as his chosen heir, and that is something that we, the audience, no beyond a doubt. Alicent is one of the most qualified people to take up the role, but she dug herself into this hole by reinforcing the precedent of denying women the right to rule.
    she made her bed, now she has to lay in it.

    here's my analysis of the Intro: The tapestry is the Story of House Targaryen and Valyria. The Backstabbing Image might be the ancient valyrian ritual that bonded them to the dragons; then there is Daenys the dreamer foreseeing the Doom of Valyria which is depicted as the burning city with the volcanoes erupting and dragons falling from the sky; the three dragons and their riders are aegon the conquerer and his sisterwives visenya & rhaenys; then theres the burning of harrenhall; House Tully, Arryn and Stark bending the knee; we then see King Maegor the cruel (Aegons 2nd son) dead on the Throne; Jahaerys' the Conciliators rule and the great Council of 101; the schism between the green and the blacks and lastly the start of the Dance of Dragons.
    Hope this helped clear things up for yall!

A side note: Catelyn Stark's sister on GoT who was pushed by Little Finger through the moon door (hundreds of years later) was married to Jon Arryn so he would be descended from Lady Jeyne or if not directly descended, definitely an ancestor.

    It is thought (don't think it has officially been confirmed in the lore) that the original Valyrian dragons like Balerion the black dread were hatched using blood magic and thus would grow much faster. The Targaryen' didn't have access to this magic after the doom of Valyria and their conquest of Westeros and as a result each subsequent generation of dragon grows slower and reached a smaller maximum size. It could also be possible that forces are impeding the dragon's growth from the shadows. Dany's dragons in GoT were hatched using a blood magic ritual and they did grow significantly faster as a result.

  • @HouseoftheWerewolf
    @HouseoftheWerewolf Před měsícem

    The Dragonseeds tied back to when Viserys said "The idea of only true Targaryen controls dragons is just an illusion." Jace was right about Valyrian history being written to glorified House Targaryen as the only dragonlords when in fact the Valyrian bloodline also runs within other houses/bastards. The Targaryen's incestual nature is part of gatekeeping controls of the dragons as only legitimize Targaryen's princes/princess are given dragon's eggs to place in their cradles, allowing them to learned and bond or claim dragons.
    Rhaenyra was also right about this plan being a mad thought because if other houses can also have dragons, the illusion of Targaryen being special and closer to gods would be gone. Therefore, the idea that only true Targaryen can sit the Iron Throne also lost in time.

    • @earth2saka

    Daemon DID screw himself over, but not in the way you think. Recall last episode, and the conditions on which Willem Blackwood swore his army to Daemon... the END of House Bracken. This episode, he tries to ally them to his cause, while Willem watches, no less, and when they refuse, he doesn't even follow through on his threat of dragonfire. Why should the Blackwoods follow Daemon when they've seen him dishonour two deals in a single decision? The moment Daemon said that there were some things "the crown must not be seen to do", Willem Blackwood had his plan well in mind, make sure the crown was seen doing what it ought not to be, and if the Blackwood HAPPEN to subdue House Bracken in the process... all the better.

    • @vadalia3860
      @vadalia3860 Před měsícem

      It's also just a blatantly smart move on Blackwood's part- doing all that not under the queen's banner leaves Rhaenyra or Daemon open to deny they'd ordered it later. Daemon forgets that most of these lords are just as smart as he is and aren't going to just agree to let themselves be thrown under the bus.

    There was a couple of things that I have decided would be hills to die on in this episode. The first being that I don't believe all of his armor was fused to him by fire. I think the male that he had on underneath melted to his skin. But the stuff on top that they said was valerian steel made him bleed because it embedded itself probably all the way to the bone when he landed.
    And the other one... Which is borderline woke content and I hate it but it remained bearable.... Was the council member talking about women not having much experience in planning for battle. She countered with he Having seen just as many battles as she has....Zero. But later in the episode she proves his point and agrees with him. She has not seen any battles and neither has he but I guarantee you he was raised learning how to strategize for battles and learning how to fight. And she admitted that Viserys did none of those things for her. And that would be the norm worldwide for women. It wasn't insulting to say that she's a woman so she can't plan battle. He was speaking the exact truth.

    1:15 The dragons on fire are depicting the doom of Valyria. Valyria is the homeland of the Targaryens, it was destroyed by a huge volcano eruption, some suspect there was sorcery involved, anyway, not gonna get to far into the lore, just wanted to let you know what it was basically.
    1:28 the three dragons flying is portraying Aegon the Conqueror and his sisters Rhaenys and Visenya. He conquered Westeros with their three dragons, he basically started the Targaryen reign over the realm. He created the targaryen sigil and forged the iron throne with dragonfire, his story is pretty interesting.
