    The Little House on the Prairie was a super popular early 70's show based on the books of Laura Ingram who lived in the 1800's. Interesting fact. The girl who played Laura on the show was the actual sister of the girl who plays Leslie Winkle on Big Bang

    To debunk Amy’s point about Raiders. The only way the Nazi’s found the location to the head piece to the Staff of Ra was because the Nazi’s followed Indy to Nepal, to get the head piece. If Indy didn’t exist I doubt the Nazi’s would’ve known to look for it in Nepal

    I honestly don’t feel like petty sex was a bad thing considering penny didn’t respect Leonard’s feelings when he said this is a sensitive issue to him at least Leonard chose something that they both enjoyed while penny kept throwing the embarrassing parts in the book in his face … that being said the you still go left joke is super funny and whole situation was entertaining as for Stewart and Raj can’t blame the women for not taking to the high level awkwardness women generally speaking like well spoken men and while both gentlemen are well spoken with one another they hugely let their anxiety win every time instead of focus on gaining more confidence by each experience.

    I can restore faith in Raiders with one ultimate truth: Without Indy nobody would have known to shut their eyes, MOST IMPORTANTLY the audience itself. Hence it teases the lesson to always follow directions, Indy knew the directions and knew enough to warn Marion. And yes you're right when you said the experience Indy had was important enough to have made a difference. The experiences are important and without Indy's involvement, the moral of the movie itself would have been lost and the heroic vibe would not even exist. The film would have been very dismal for the viewer to watch without a hero to give us a triumphant feeling. Belloq and Toht were so disgustingly evil and creepy it would have given the viewer a much harsher and anxious vibe and probably wouldn't have been enjoyed as much as an action film. There would have been little to no action, the film would probably drag for an hour and turn into a horror movie at the end. The significance lies within Indy who carried on the heroic spirit and experiences, along with the audience. So yes I feel it is very significant that Indy was there to begin with, even if it only mattered to we, the viewers.

    I wish this episode hadn't framed Amy's thesis as correct when it clearly isn't. And here are the reasons:
    1. Indy led the Nazis to Marion and had he not intervened, the Nazis would have killed her, taken the medallion and found the Ark before Indy.
    2. The Nazis had no idea where the Ark was because they had only read one side of the medallion while Indy had read both sides.
    3. The Ark was supposed to be flown to Berlin and opened there. Belloq never planned to open it on the island until Indy caused a delay in plans by wrecking the plane.
    4. The Ark would have remained lost or rediscovered by the Nazis had Indy and Marion not brought it back to the States.

    • @WilliamTheMovieFan
      @WilliamTheMovieFan Před 10 měsíci +3

      Actually the Germans didn’t know where the Ark was, they only knew the general location, that’s why they were looking for Ravenwood and the headpiece to the Staff of Ra. The had no idea where Ravenwood was, so they followed Indy to Marion who had the headpiece. The movie explains it when they are at the school talking to the government men. When Indy gets on the seaplane to fly to Europe you can see a German agent watching him.

    But, despite the BBT boys and people in the comment section trying to rationalize. Amy is correct. The Nazis, IF they even found it, were not going to be able to use it. It would just kill them.

    This is a funny episode, but Amy is wrong about Indy’s role in the film. The Germans only knew of the general location of the Ark. They needed the headpiece to the Staff of Ra to find the exact location. The Germans only knew that Ravenwood might have the headpiece, but didn’t know where he was. Indy knew roughly where he could be and went to find him and Marion. German agents followed Indy to Marion’s location. When Indy boards the seaplane to take him to Europe, you can see a German agent watching him.
    Without Indy’s involvement, the Germans wouldn’t have found the Ark.

    If the Nazis figured out to "kneel before God" that in Latin Jehova begins with an "I", and there was a camouflaged bridge, they'd have to figure out which one was the real Grail. And if they did figure out it was the plain one, it wouldn't have done them any good because the cup couldn't leave the temple. So the whole thing was for nothing.

  • @kateorgera5907
    @kateorgera5907 Před 10 měsíci

    I find it interesting that when dissecting Amy's point, nobody talks about how, hey: Maybe the movie issue about Indy's character development more than about him stopping the Nazis?
    Going after the Ark brings Indy to Marion, the woman he hurt all those years ago, severing the relationship between him and his mentor Abner in the process. Some say Marion might have been killed if Indy hadn't shown up at the bar when the Nazis did, while others argue that the Nazis never would have found Marion if not for Indy, which... is pretty unclear, tbh. Still, adventuring together helps them heal those old wounds. It also causes Indy to confront his skepticism and laissez-faire attitude about treasure hunting. If Indy continued on the path he was on, never going after the Ark, would he be much better than Belloq? Indy learns to do what Belloq can't and respects the forces he doesn't understand, which saves him and Marion.
    Which makes sense considering how biblical the film really is. (copied from TVTropes) "In the Old Testament, God often instructs His people to (as per 1 Chronicles 20:17) "set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you". God would then either smite the enemy directly (as in the film) or sow confusion amongst their number, turning them upon each other and leaving the Israelites with mopping up. Many of the fledgling nation's early battles were handled thusly, including the infamous case where God used arbitrary methods to reduce the size of the Israelite army to a couple hundred - just so that they (and their enemies) would have to realize that it was He who was responsible for the victory."
    You'd think Sheldon, having survived years with his Born Again Christian mother, or Howard, being Jewish, would get this. But considering both have rejected strictly following their faiths, maybe that's precisely why they can't see those allusions in the film themselves. But, in truth, Raiders is more about how Indy changes and becomes more humbled, NOT how he stops the Nazis. But of course the guys don't care about the emotional journey - they just want their badass heroes, so they miss the point, as does pragmatic Amy.

    Indy is not inconsequential to the plot:
