- A viewer asked how to clean up the rust on a diamond stone/plate. The simplest and most effective way is to use these Klingspor SandFlex blocks. These work great for basically anything around the shop to remove surface rust. This is also my preferred method for removing rust from table saw tops, jointer beds, and bandsaw tables.

Your channel is so refreshing. Your videos are educational, straight to the point and extremely informative. I’m a 30year cabinet and furniture maker and at 63 years old you continue to teach an old dog new things, and for this I am grateful. Don’t stop doing what you do
You can use a simple white pencil eraser to clean diamond plates, it works extremely well and leaves no residue. Trend (who sells diamond stones) sell one but you can just use any white pencil eraser, the ones kids use.
Soles of old shoes works too.
The way I understand it the rust that shows up on diamond plates isn’t the plate rusting (they’re nickel coated), it’s the leftover filings from the sharpened tools that rust. I’ve always used barkeepers friend and a kitchen scrub brush and it’s always worked, but this looks a lot faster and a lot less messy! I will definitely be trying this out, thanks for sharing!
I came for the thumbnail. Well done. Great viddy.
I bought these after you posted. They arrived. I used them. And I'm never going to use anything else ever again. These are incredible. My metal surfaces are soooo nice now, paired with Boeshield T9, I couldn't be happier.
Those do look handy for lots of things. For diamond stone cleanup, an ordinary eraser without grit has worked for me. I got the idea from Stavros Gakos’s CZcams channel.
The big "erasers" for cleaning drum/disk/orbital sanders are also good.
Excellent idea. I have two of these in my garage for metal cleaning prior to polishing. I can see they will be visiting the wood shop from time to time.
Love all your videos, always straight to the point, and made to educate us.
I used those at work before retiring, and I still have the remains of one in my toolbox 18 years later! If there is a downside, it's that they make a mess, but I suppose it's no worse than the sawdust we usually create by the sack full. I have been looking for replacements for years without luck, so I am more than pleased to see this video.
As always. More sage words from Jodi. Thank you sir!
Another use for SandFlex. I have never had a problem with rust on my diamond plates but if I ever do. Thanks for the tip.
I've never seen those before. Those would be very useful anywhere in the shop for rust. I typically clean my diamond stone like you described - rinse, dry with cloth, and then air dry. Thanks!
I've been looking for something like this, thank you for sharing!
What a great product thanks for the tip
Thanks for the tip 👍
I have a diamond plate that I have used 1 time so far and I'll keep an eye on it for rust particles.
And I just placed an order with Taylor Tools a couple of days ago.
Magic erasor for tools! You come up with the coolest stuff. Thanks!
Great tip, have not seen those! Thanks
Just purchased them thanks man.😀
I've had that same set of blocks for about five years and they are excellent for all kinds of things other than rust removal. They work well at putting a semi-polish on steel and aluminum. They give a great luster to brass. These are worth the money.
thanks for the info
Really, really interesting indeed! 😃
Thanks for the tip, dude!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I use glass cleaner on my diamond stones, so no rust in the first place. Just discovered your channel. Some really good stuff on it.
I'll have to pick some of these up. I do a pretty good job at rust prevention (very dry shop, ZeRust products near any surfaces that might rust) but every once in awhile something sneaks through. Of course, my usual solution is just to soak smaller stuff in EvapoRust for a couple days.
great tip
Great products!!!
Barkeepers friend does a good job too.
Thanks.
Can you use any cleaning fluid with them? Degreaser for example. Just thinking about my pillar drill bed. It's grotty and needs some good attention.
Using them to clean my hand plans and hand saws from the rust ( when its appearing on the surface of the tools).
These are magic and everyone should get them because they don't cost much at all. I restore a lot of vintage tools and these won't ruin the tool or patina and are so easy.
Good tip..."eraser poop...the Bain of mankind's existence "🤣🤣...stay safe...press on😎 Joe
Eraser poop, I'm so stealing that!
I've used these for years, but I've never found another woodworker that's ever heard of them.
I had no idea these blocks would work on diamond plates! Again, I am "humbled" lol.
Nice
Pro tip: using HoneRite Gold as an additive to the water that is used to lubricate or rinse the stone will eliminate rust entirely. SandFlex is awesome though in situations where restoration is needed.
That looks like it does a wonderful job, but I wonder if using an abrasive block to clean a diamond plate does any sort of damage to the plate.
I’m pretty sure that the rust on a diamond plate is just sitting on top of the surface, and it’s from the metal that was abraded off while sharpening.
You will not damage the plate with these they’re to soft
I have a couple of those abrasive blocks that are more than 20 years old... 😂
Like an eraser , they produce a lot of loose abrasive particles whilst being used so be careful not to use 'em around machines with bearings that aren't completely sealed... like those "metal shielded" bearings...🙄
Using it to clean my hand tools: planes and saws.
A medium sandbflex block, at least, is indispensable. Get one.
They work great, but if you have a large area and lots of rust eat your Wheaties first . You're gonna need it. 😅
I just use windex, wipe dry, then air dry. No problems with rust. But i like this erasure trick.
Nice but $13 in the USA but amazon Canada $45.00 Tell me there isn't something wrong here. Thanks for the videos.
Eraser poop 😂. Man I miss having young kids and the words that get made up!
