Glad you are back. Why do I think Macron thinks hosting the Olympics is as important as fighting a war? Macron doesn’t act like he thinks France will ever be at risk from Russia so he doesn’t act like Ukraine is fighting for France or the rest of Europe. He seems naive about Russia and China. Not sure I’d want Macron to catch me in my trust exercise in a therapy group.

The question Paul asked in the beginning of 'are we losing steam' section got me stupefied... The question whether Ukraine has fought back "enough for EU not to be in danger" is dangerous per se, it should never be voiced (other than an ironic question to the likes of Macron). Because to me and to Ukrainians, I guess, it sounds like "ok, let's take a break, it's Ukrainian lives at stake, not ours". A very hypocritical and cynical sounding thing. And I am sure it wasn't meant to be like that, but mentioning levels of threat while active fighting and indiscriminate bombardments are still ongoing feels inappropriate.

As a 70 yr old child of the cold war, after the fall of the Soviet Union, I watched Eastern Europe and Russia with a critical eye. I've spent a lot of time studying Russia because the 'fear' of Russia was ingrained in my youthful memories. I read bios of the Tzars, the wars, the Revolution, Stalin so feel I know the Russian thinking as much as any Westerner can. I watched Russia very carefully and was incredulous that Germany was so close to them and almost lost my socks when they went ahead with Nordstream II. I remember years ago wondering why you would give any country that much power over you so they could just threaten tho turn off the tap anytime you might stray from the Reservation. Guess what happened!!!! Exactly what I worried about 10 years ago. Hopefully Germany has learned their lesson, now we need Macron to get his head out of his arse but the French will always be the French!
The British will always be the British too with their heads up their arse. Ukraine will prevail.

You say "A powerful EU is a great thing for the United States." yet France uses it's EU influence to undermine and degrade the US and the UK. Maybe the EU needs a "come to Jesus" moment on this question. I'm Canadian, so I don't have a dog in this fight, but that's what it looks like from here. Please correct me, I just don't understand.
France is too self-important. It will seek to undermine USA and UK no matter what, so they can be the leader. And they have always had special sentiments for Russia, and so still hope to play a part in future peace talks. Apart from the arrogance they are lovely 😊
