Why does China keep supporting Russia over Ukraine? | DW News

  • China's top diplomat Wang Yi is in Moscow, meeting Russian leaders, just days ahead of the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Wang Yi held a series of meetings, in the backdrop of a war that has rapidly shaped a 'no limits' partnership between Moscow and Beijing. The latter is now reported to be considering supplying 'lethal support' to Russia. A development that the US has cautioned would be a 'red line'. Amidst those possibilities, we are looking at a deeper question. Why does China keep supporting Russia over Ukraine? Especially given that China appears to acknowledge that Russia has violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Are China and Russia increasingly on the same side or is Beijing still as it claims, impartial? And is there a point at which support for Russia over Ukraine becomes untenable for China?

Either way, the US should not be seeking to impose their will and cultural practices upon all other sovereign nations of the world, there is an old axiom that still holds true...
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely...
This essentially means that it is not good for the world that one power is in control of everything, balance of power within the world arena requires that more than one nation have enough power to keep themselves from being dominated by another in an effort to subdue the entirety of the world leaving no balance in spite of any ideology seen to be better than another. This is why wars are fought, one power attempts to dictate to another and conflict ensues, while the lesser powers or forced to capitulate with one or another superpower.
