  • In this video I'm cleaning the lens elements in my old Leica-A Elmar 1:3,5 f=50mm (I don't have a Leica A camera...).
    To disassemble this lens, you begin with the little set screw on the side.
    If the retaining ring is to tight, you can use "nail-polish remover" with Acetone to soften the threat lock and then unscrew the retaining ring or the front ring
    I use "PEC-PAD*" lens wipes together with the Hydrogenperoxid 3% and then use lighter fluid to clean the rest. It turn out to be very good.
    I know I could have done more on the front lens but it was actually just to show you that it really work's.
    But it was also to show one how this lens is disassemble, when the lens element's need a cleaning.

    Thank you for the great video! Very good instruction! It just came in handy for disassembling, cleaning and reassembling my Industar-22 (1955) which only differs in some details! I use this with my Leica Standard E (1932) because I don't have the original Elmar 3.5 / 50 nickel.

    I love your helpful videos. Maybe you can help me in cleaning my 3.5cm, F3.5 Leica LTM Summaron lens. I have been able to remove the outer lens elements (front and rear) held in with threaded rings but i cannot remove the inner lenses to access them or the aperture blades. I have tried unscrewing them using rubber cones and even tried dropping a little acetone around the lens to break the threads biut nothing comes loose. Is there something I am missing? I cannot find a good diagram of the internal pieces of the lens to understand its deign.

    I have a original elmar from a 1a and the light trap bit at the back is seemingly one piece. I can see threading or ribbing of the metal just behind it. I have tried using all the force I dare to remove it and have had no luck. I think it might end up being a case of destructive removal and then machining a new part from brass.

    Is it possible to repair a scratched front lens? Repolish or spare lens replacement?

    • @daninierga4804
      @daninierga4804 Před rokem

      I'm by no means an expert on that. But if the lens is not coated and the scratches aren't very deep, I would say that repolish is an option. If it's coated you'll remove or damage the coating by doing so. As I said I'm no expert but I don't think that repolishing will affect the optical properties of the lens, in my opinion is better than having a scratched lens anyways

    Hello Sir, wonderful instructions, I am fairly confident I may be able to clean my similar Leitz Elmar 1:3.5 50mm, although mine does have a serial number so it may be a bit more recent than your sample, all of the elements of the lens you are working on are the same (so far) as my lens except the first two rings (light traps) you remove from the inside. Mine does not appear to be two pieces. I have photos but not sure how to post in comments here. I cannot determine if mine is a pressure fit or just how to remove it. Any ideas or source for diagram would be much appreciated. Wonderful channel, a bit addictive I must say...

    Impressive video but still would leave it to the professionals. One question and suggestion. What would be the adapter to use with an M4 mount? And if your trying to agitate the lens in the solution, why risk it with the end of metal tweezers? Why not use the q-tip or something softer, maybe plastic?

    I have watched many of your lens cleaning uploads and find them fascinating, but previous ones seem to feature alcohol for lens cleaning. Do you now prefer Hydrogen peroxide with a lighter fuel finish?

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  Před 6 lety +1

      Thank's, when I try to remove fungus or haze in the previus video's, I use lighter fluid because it was the only solution I know about and it work's in many cases, but someone mention that Hydrogenperoxid work's better somtimes mix with water or/and Isopropylalcohol.
      So I have now try it in many lenses with serious fungus, and it simply do it much better, and in my opinion when do the rest of the cleaning procss with lighter fluid it just do the job and it surprise me everytime.
      But it also tell's that, there is not only 1 solution for cleaning lens element's, it depence what kind of haze, fungus, dirt, dust or oil film that's in side the lens, I try to shift between the different solution's, just to find out what work's best.
      My list of solution's so far:
      Lighter fluid.
      Isopropylalcohol 99%.
      "Eclipse" sensor cleaning.
      Hydrogenperoxid 3% mix with or without water.
      Dish soap in a ultra sonic cleaner.
      Dish soap
      Cheers
      Kenneth
