  • The aperture ring was very stiff in this Leitz Elmar f 5=cm 1:3.5, but it's "easy" to fix with the right tools.
    Just be aware of the very little set screw on the side and specially the hole it sit's in and the side of the lens assembly.
    Use small amount of good grease on the inside of the ring and also on the lens assy and the move the ring to spread the grease, here I use "Super-Lube" but you can also use other good grease. Take care when screw in the 2 small screws in the ring, it can be a little tricky.
    The lens assy has to sit correct, so, when putting it back into the body, be sure that the set screw can be screw in fully.
    There is also a little set screw on the side of the front ring, but it was missing here :-(....

    had my 3.5 lens professionally serviced by Michael's Cameras. Fog inside, did not like the idea of working on this expensive lens. . My summitar f2 lens aperture was very stiff. Other wise the lens was mint. I used PTFE. LIQUID. Just enough to for smooth operation. Do not use too much or you will have oily aperture blades and foggy lenses. A tooth pick with a very small amount will work. Slowly work the PFTE in. Use this method on my EXAKTA vintage lenses as well. I admire Mikes skills in repairing his lens and thanks for sharing. cheers

    How did you remove the internal baffles to allow such easy access to the rear retaining ring?

    I’m having trouble . Is the aperture blade metal housing cemented with glue or is it really tight to open ? I can’t get to cleaning elements because I can’t open with rubber tools or Spanner wrench . I watched your other video cleaning the elements and it looked easy to open the lens I wonder why mines so difficult ?

    Can someone help me with some advice ? I've unscrewed the retaining ring, but can't remove it from the lens. It's very tricky. It's almost as if there's not enough space for it to escape. I've tried tweezers, very small and thin flat head screwdrivers, needles. Everything and I cant seem to get it out. Please help.

    You should change your light bulbs to led or incandescent, or change the shutter speed. The banding effect is quite annoying.

    • @burrencrawler
      @burrencrawler Před 6 lety

      There are other videos without banding I think. This one is his contribution, and a good one too

    Hi Mike, I tried using your video to disassemble my grandfather's 1951 Leitz 3.5/50 the first retaining would not come out as there is a fixed ring that is too narrow for that retaining ring to come out. Then I tried to unscrew the front main ring (that has all the writing on it, with the grippy edge), but that would not unscrew as it got very tight against the small aperture sliding lever, any tighter and it may have broken, any less tight and it will not come off. Do you repair these lenses? Could you do it for me please? I just want the lenses cleaned and have it re-greased.....I could send it to you with the small screws I have taken out?

    Hey Mike, great videos, thanks for sharing. Question, I've been looking online for a similar spanner wrech that you use here with the arched outward ends and I can't seem to find. You know what this tool is called and where I might be able to find? Thank you so much.

      Thank's Joe, the one I use in this film is a old kind of a compass, actually it is used to measure the diameter inside a tube, just to check if one have many many tube's that should measure the same diameter.
      I have file it so it will fit in many different lenses.
      Here you can find one of those, there are many different size's:

    how do you determine which point to re insert the front flange? trial and error? i keep getting either too far or too below the flange screw.

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  Před 8 lety

      When I disassembled the front part I make some small mark's so I know where thing's sit correct, It help's me a lot when assemble the lens again. That's why it's "easy" for me to determine where the front flange (and other parts..) has to sit.
      Cheers

    Hi, I have problem how unscrew retaining ring. My lens has more rings inside barrel and it is no visible. I have unscrewed 2 little screws but not possible to unscrew front ring.. not sure if if is reason of not unscrewed retaining ring. Thanks for any advice :-)

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  Před 6 lety

      Maybe it's not the same version of lens, just like in my film. OR there is another broken set screw, sometimes they can be very difficult to then unscrew.
      Maybe the front ring is just very tight...

    • @zdenoziman
      @zdenoziman Před 6 lety

      Hi, I tried everything but not possible to unscrew front ring. I unscrewed that 2 little screws... maybe is that front ring glued :-) I used nail remover too if there was lacquer, lens filter wrench with rubber gloves... so not possible to do with my version nr: 1049433 :-) thanks anyway

    Hi mikeno, which lens comes close to the distagon 28mm f2.8 in terms of stuck aperture service?

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  Před 8 lety

      There are very often problems with oil on the aperture blades in Carl Zeiss C/Y 25mm and 28mm 1:2.8, but also with CZ c/y 50mm 1:1.4.

      +mikeno62 thanks for your quick response. Is the C/Y 25mm f/2.8 similar or identical in terms of assembly of the inner parts (aperture and so on?) Would I be able to get it done by myself using your repair video of the25mm C/Y?

      Do you know of a source on how to open up the 3,5 cm f3.5? They look very similar but the 3,5cm is more tight. I need to remove some haze inside..
