    Pretty interesting to see this as I operate excavators with this attachment daily. I would recommend getting a mulcher attachment, it cuts through brush and trees faster and easier then this will. This is perfect for grass, small saplings and branch overhangs, but really struggles to cut up anything bigger than that and can get bogged down. It will cut it if your patient enough though, just more wear and tear on the blades, drum and bearings. On some machines that struggle to track and cut at the same time, I find that if you put it in a rabbit mode you are able to track at a decent speed again, except uphill of course. Lastly if you intend to put a lot of use into this, I suggest welding another layer of flat bar on the bottom sides. They wear out very quickly and start to deform, at least on ours that we use daily it did, on every single one we have. Anyways, thanks for another awesome video, love all the entertainment and knowledge you bring to us all. Cheers!~ PS; Watch out for barbed wire with this, you have been warned, keep a roll around to replace the whole fence row when it sucks it all into the barrel lol

      After running a skid steer with a forestry mulcher many a times I'm going to assume the same thing I'm about to say applies to an excavator with a mulchers. In my opinion a skid loader/excavator shouldn't be run with a mulcher, they are too abusive and tend to wear the machine out much much faster. Stick with dedicated equipment for mulching.

      The only downside to things like this on a mini-ex is the travel speed of the machine. I love my Deere 35G, but they travel like extremely heavy snails. For more than a few hundred yards of trail, you’d need to have your brush clearing device on a CTL before it was on a digger.(CTL means compact track loader, which is a tracked skidsteer.)

    I have to agree that flail mowers are awesome. It was really cool to see what you can do if a flail mower is attached to an excavator arm.
    Last year we bought a 3 point hitch mounted offset flail mower for our small 1025R tractor. It is an incredibly versatile and incredibly useful attachment.
    Function wise, it includes the hydraulic offset (you can shift it all the way from centered to beside the rear of the tractor if desired), hydraulic tilt rotation (it can even mow vertically), 3 point hitch to raise and lower, hydraulic 3 point top link (which adjusts the mowing cut height when it is lowered so the rear roller rides on the ground), and the PTO to efficiently power it.
    One feature I like about ours is with the rear roller and top link to accurately adjust the mowing height, you can even use it to mow the lawn.
    For example, in this video, that area surrounding the pond would be mowed right down to say a 3" height, leaving all of the brush finely chopped and would look great.
    One big feature i wish it had was the ability to be raised more than 24" off the ground, like Andrew's can. We can't trim the top of trees and hedges for example. We can trim the sides up to about 60", just nothing higher than that.
    There is one thing I don't like about ours and that is the fact it is at the rear of the tractor. This means you have to twist your body around if you need to clearly see what your mowing.

    Hi Andrew,
    for the most mulchers / flail mowers are Hammerknifes/blades instead of Y-knifes/blades availiable. These are much heavier and way more suitable for chopping treebranches and stuff like you cut in the Video. Y-blades are meant more for high grass and thinner stuff. Maybe think about it, when the first set of blades is worn out and you need new ones.
    best regards from germany and thank you for all your efforts,
    David

    • @Jp-eo7jl
      @Jp-eo7jl Před rokem +1

      They use the y type or cranked blade to cut down on the weight of the mulcher especially on small diggers
      Be careful before changing all flails

    • @ramjet7470
      @ramjet7470 Před rokem +1

      Most generally a good quality hammer drum is thicker and thus heavier requiring larger end bearings to handle greater shock loads. Y-blade drums and bearings are much lighter and any reputable drum manufacturer will warn against installing hammers on a y-blade drum.

    That mountain road sure could use some widening and smoothing. The flail mower works good for brush and small saplings. You should consider some type of chipper for mulching some of the smaller tree branches.

    20:33 , When i used to run mini hoe, this was how i always unloaded my machine out of the dump trailer we used to have. The ramps were unbelievably heavy and we moved it alot, so this method was much easier on the back. Only thing i would suggest, use the blade as a way to perch yourself up on the unloading side. Push the blade all the way to the ground so you sit a little more even, it made it feel alot less sketchy when you would swing around. Love the vids

      Yes but on a deckover if you go over the side blade first it will hit ground and you can't track unless you stick down out front and depending on the geometry and the machine you can get stuck or drop hard.Not hating on anyone here it all depends on deck height and machine but great advice regardless it is for sure a time and space saver when you get it figured out .

    • @ericnewton8292
      @ericnewton8292 Před rokem +2

      @@stevec4011 Good point, I actually never thought of that. The machine i used was smaller than this, but the trailer i used was fairly tall, almost the same as most deck heights. Because this machine has the 2 way blade, i believe it wont lift up as high, leading me to believe that your scenario you mentioned might happen.
