    How rare it is to find a builder who is willing to describe the challenges they face when building the van. So often you see folks just building these amazing vans and you never see the trial and error. I've watched so many van build videos and never seen a video like this. Thank you for educating folks, you might be saving a life.

  • @Nathanb3ck
    @Nathanb3ck Před 2 lety +6

    THIS STOVE IS GREAT!
    HOWEVER, IT REQUIRES A DUAL STAGE REGULATOR!!! It won't function without one nor will most hot water heaters!
    The PSI in Lp tanks is far too high for most single stage regulators and they lock and some applicances do as well.. this being one of them!
    Long story short. If you're using Lp get a dual stage regulator and it'll work flawlessly. Make sure to place it within 2 feet of your tank! I put the regulator that it came with closer to the stove so I used both.

  • @dano1472
    @dano1472 Před 3 lety +8

    Hey cool build. This is a common issue with setting up a gas hub. The stove is fine. Basically it comes down to psi, and balance. That stove is rated for 0.5 psi. Because too much gas is entering the burner tubes, and propane is heavyer than air its over overflowing the system and flooding the stove housing with gas, igniting, and causing flames to shoot out. ( these systems are not sealed to prevent explosions)
    Solution: If you have changed the jet nozzles to lpg, there is another set of flow adjustment for the burner head itself. Unscrew the housing from underneath, the glass will lift off. Next to the burner there should be valve like the one next to the knobs. Zero these out then open a 1/4 turn. rest the burner plates on the burner, ( leave glass off for now) lite the stove and adjust the flame for both burners so they are sufficient when both burners are lit.
    Alternatively you can back down your regulator by turning the grey knob on the outside, it looks like one piece but it can be turned with a wrench. This backs a spring off a diaphragm, reducing the flow. ( it will not leak gas if this is left loose.) This step will keep you from having a flame up again while you figure out the other adjustments. When you have balance in the system you should be able to have the regulator fully open ( tightened) and a healthy flame out of all burner holes at the same time, with no flickering flames, or dead spots when turned all the way down. You should never hear a rush of gas, just a whisper. You should also have a one was valve on the gas line and an emergency shut off valve, uncscrewing a bottle take alot longer when your kitchen is on fire.
    One easy way to get all this would have been too buy a flex gas line kit at home depot, then add a shut off valve. One last tip: Do this kinda thing outside your build, then install it. Hope this helps, good luck.

    • @AnkeneyVanBuilds
      @AnkeneyVanBuilds  Před 3 lety

      Hi thanks for the info! And I did do that with the valves... propane still rushed out!

  • @OlivierMyre88
    @OlivierMyre88 Před rokem +6

    You need a double stage regulator before this small "last" regulator. These stoves, just like big brands like suburban, require an entry that is already low pressure (1psi or so) but you gave it direct lpg pressure which is around 200 psi. The small regulator cant handle all that.

    This emphasizes how important it is to check the gas equipment outside of the van. Only install when it's all worked out . . . then fully check again inside the van once installed (& check periodically throughout the burners lifetime.). Oh yeah, and make sure you have generous ventilation, install detectors (CO, CO2 & smoke) & ALWAYS carry 2 fire extinguishers (one up front & one in the back). Lastly, every build should have a front & rear egress (a way to exit the van in an emergency). PS: I love, love induction cooktops (if your van has the electrical capacity for it}. I hope you're enjoying yours : ). 👩‍🍳

    Glad you’re safe and decided to stop. Just a couple of thoughts as I watched your video. First of all I believe this system (LP anything) is so critical that only LP professionals should do the install for obvious reasons! Second, there is specific gas line tape for threads that is yellow in color and the white water pipe tape shouldn’t be used. Third, I have a Magic Chef two burner almost identical to yours and it required a second regulator from gas cylinder before hooking up to stove top regulator to help with gas flow. These are. It critiques but that stove is being used in hundreds if not thousands of RV’s very successfully! 🤙

    • @AnkeneyVanBuilds
      @AnkeneyVanBuilds  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for the advice!! I did have professionals set up the hose/regulator for me and I didn’t have any issues with leaks or anything on that aspect. And I will go buy some yellow tape. I used the tape provided in the box, (I’m wondering why it was white 🤔)
      And yours had two regulators?? Where were the two? And I wonder if that would have helped?
      Because the rush of propane was coming out of the knobs of the oven itself. And looking at the reviews there were a handful of people who experienced the same issue.
      I purchased a new stove that comes as LPG and doesn’t require a conversation. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

      In today's mass production world, you can count on some faulty units being sold. It's unavoidable. Don't try to convince yourself that just because many units are successfully used in vans, your unit will be fine. Always, always test your unit (although outside the van at first). Repair, retrofit or return if needed.

    The first mistake you made was using a cordless drill to remove the jets, second mistake was use that regulator all you needed to do was use POL BBq regulator with 1/2 BSP female to 3/8 sae flare male coupling. Third when you heard and gas leak after adjusting the screw below the gas knob , you should have check the gas fittings under the knob panel by simply removing the screws underneath the gas burners and check gas valves that has clear been damaged when you tried adjusting the the flow. So lastly yes the cooktop is faulty but this faulty was due to person trying to install this cooktop. My advice to you is get a professional to do this work because you a clear a danger to yourself and others.
