- 5 different versions of the solo from Oasis Champagne Supernova I do not own the rights and take no credit for the filming, the original uploading to CZcams or the guitar playing.
Cred to talktonight27 for the Gem Archer Video.
I had never heard Johnny marr play a rock solo
I have goose bumps
Shoplifters Of The World by The Smiths.
Crazy it’s not even his style… yet he can own it and make it his own👍🏽
The sound and the soul of Noel’s solo are unbeatable to me. So even if Johnny Marr technically gives something more, i’ll ho with the original
Actually the original solo is a duet by Noel and Paul Weller
Something about Noel playing it will just to me be the best. Not all about the number of notes but the passion from the songwriter. It's the best melodic version
Yep always say this. Obviously not on Marr and Squire’s level but his always sound the best to me. Especially Gmex.
Couldn't agree more.
Even Noel will tell you he is shit on guitar 😂🤣😂 Squire is a real lead guitarist miles above any of them, cheek to compare them
@@ryanmchugh7840 None of them are even close to Squires level
@@MrMabawsaritchie No. Noel's rendition was way more sophisticated and fitting. I don't measure quality, in playing or in singing, by how many tricks you can fit in, or how fast you are. Noel's rendition was just more suitable and expressive.
It’s Johnny Marr by miles, he really put some thought into it as always.
Yip
Although to be fair, John Squire is laid back in this clip and hardly going for it, remains a great guitarist. Jonny has big balls though, agreed.
He played on a few black grape sets in the 90s and changed my opinion on him immediately, ,Johnny Marr is a brilliant thought full player agreed
@@poisoneddog2967 Yeh. I actually feel Squire is sort of "phoning it in". Not there with Marr.
Johnny Marr probably didnt put any thought into it. He famously doesnt learn songs before playing them. All the stuff he's done on Noels albums were recorded blind without ever hearing the track.
The thing I take away from this is why all these guys are incredible guitarists in their own right. Yes, I'm the biggest Johnny Marr fan in the world, but they all add their own specific texture to each of these performances.
Best comment on here! Couldn't agree more!
Noel Gallagher's lead to Champagne Supernova live at Budokan 1998 smashed it oit of the park. Think he got the inspiration for Squire and Marr to be fair but still what a solo and end to the song when it speeds up!
Absolutely agree!! Budokan 98 is a great show!
John Squire and Johnny Marr of course. They're far beyond the others. The one with John Squire is legendary ! But if I really want to be impartial, ok, Johnny Marr won !
Squires was poo
Johnny Marr's was shite
@@michaelpaul3481 You obviously have no musical aptitude, Squire's made you feel the solo by finding and emphasizing alternative notes at different registers to the regular solo that just follows the melody.
Squire’s was fret-wanking.
Squires was only legendary cos it's a Roses member playing with their proteges. His solo on this was lame in all honesty. Johnny Marr was easily the best,,, but I agree those two are on different stratosphere to the others. Manchester's 2 greatest ever Axe men. Azziz Ibrahim is class too. Deserves more dues
Gem Archer hands down. Best sound, tasteful notes with ample space to create dramatic effect. But maybe he had more time than the others to develop it. Marr and Squire were probably just cast into the spot. Then its easy to go with some penta licks, cause you know it'll work.
gem was useless. too busy trying to look like Noel or Paul Weller 🤣🤣
Nick McCabe wipes the floor with all
I play guitar myself,I also grew up in wythenshawe which is the place Johnny Marr grew up. When I used to be a taxi driver I picked up Johnny Marr twice, the second time I picked him up I forgot to take my guitar out of the car the night before and it was lying on the back seat. As Johnny got in my minibus he spotted it straight away,he asked me who the guitar belonged to. I told him it was mine,he then asked me where I'm from and I said wythenshawe,at first he didn't believe me. I started rattling off name's of road,s and he smiled, we talked for about 40 minutes like two brothers. When the journey ended I asked him would he sign my guitar which he kindly did, he's a decent guy and a phenomenal musician. Ironically when Johnny got into the minibus I was listening to a smiths playlist,on the way to pick him up I had no idea I was picking Johnny up the as the job note said pick up John at Dawson's in Manchester. In my opinion Johnny Marr is vastly underrated. But for me he's best guitarist to have ever came from Manchester.
What other guitarist do u love
Awesome story!
John Squire is ten times better, he's a proper lead guitarist.
@@MrMabawsaritchie hahaha
Yeah, But are you Johnny, coz it goes back to Chuck Berry, Go Johnny Go.
I actually really liked Gems solo in the end
It's my fave.
Noel is the best, when the melody breathe and sing with soul.
Johnny Marr any day and twice on Sundays. Then, of course it's John Squire. 2 guitar gods.
Squire's was boring.
Fascinating comparisons, thanks for posting these.. for my money, based purely in order of what I enjoyed melodically: Gallagher, Marr, Squire, Archer, Smith
I change my mind from day to day... but often days Marr's version is number one for me. But depends on the mood to!
Noel's is the most satisfying by a mile. Not sure what song Gem thought they were doing - November Rain!?
Never heard Johnny Marr play like that incredible
All are great but nothing beats the original, it was designed for the song and fits it just perfect!
Pity it’s so low in the mix.
The 'original' was Paul Weller who plays the solo on the studio version.
@@MKYCmusic he and Noel
John Squire and Marr are masters compared to the other two. Gem had some great riffs with Heavy Stereo.
Marr added something cool and harmony riffs in there. Brilliant as usual.
Noel & Gem understand how to solo over that chord progression, real bluesmen
At the time I thought John Squire’s solo was so much better than the original but listening back now he’s just noodling away. Have to admit Noel’s solo is my favourite, fits the song better than the others.
His is the worst of them fairly easily. Great player but that wasn’t good
Noel played the solo the best, but it's his song. Johnny Marr and John Squire are true guitar legends though (especially Marr). Noel is a songwriter who plays guitar and what he does works for his songs.Noel's solos are are extension of his songwriting.
Weller played on the original solo
This video is a great for an analysis of some distinctly different styles of playing. Noel touches most on the solo we sing in our head from the album, but Marr and Squire do an excellent job and also sound like themselves.
Man Johnny Marr rocked it
Noel, all the way for me, as it sound more like the record to me, The other guitarists here are fantastic in there own right, but it’s just too different for me, they’re are not copycat style players and they do they’re own thing, which I totally respect.
Johnny Marr, hands down!
Id love to have seen bernard butler give it a go. Hes up there with the best of the britpop generation
In my opinion the Best champagne supernova solo is from Noel at budokan 98 ... If you havent seen it search for it and thank me later
I felt Marr nuked this, he’s versatile! Didn’t Weller actually play the solo on the record? Noel’s tone is gorgeous though! czcams.com/video/l8YTHHClNjs/video.htmlsi=cNxWhQP2veNJtfxF nearly 12 mins long, absolute mad lads at the time 🤧👃😂😂
For me noel the best solo
So I see Noel was later inspired by Johnny Marr's one, I notice he the last part of Marr's solo in later gigs
That is Noel original lick. He does it since the 96 gigs.
Noel. All day. Everyday.
Noel's extended version at Earl's Court is something that will never be forgotten, but Mike Moore Liam's lead guitarist is there with the best,
Johnny Marr. No-one else gets near.
All these technical guitarists are brilliant in their own way,But for me,Noel’s solo is the best,It just works perfectly,It’s a shame he doesn’t play more solos live,But I get he’s the frontman now and he has gem doing that,Honestly,I think he’s criminally underrated as a guitarist,I’ve always thought he was really good👍👍
Great rhythm player ok lead guitarist
Jonny for me all day
Controversial but Noel's solo is best. Not the best guitarist but the best thought out solo. Marrs ending is better though
Noel was mostly playing Paul Wellers solo tho
John Squire, in my opinion is head and shoulders above the others but makes it look easy.
His solo didn’t fit the song
Couldn’t hear him…….
Not even for debate.
@@Two_Seat_Pete_FatA55 his guitar technique is more bluesy and kinda like led Zeppelin. His Mid 90s style is very different with Stone Roses debut album. Their sounds were similar with stone roses second album and the seahorses
@satriaagungkalirasa3587 yeah I know all that mate. I'm just saying i don't think his solo was that fitting in the song. Certainly not doubting his guitar ability, I grew up playing his tunes on guitar
I think Johnny Marr’s performance is the best, but Noel’s tone in London ‘09 is phenomenal - he sounds like Slash! So that’s the one I enjoyed the most, plus no-one’s going to play it with more heart than the guy that wrote it. 🙌
Ha...take that Squire !!! How does it feel to be the quietest guitar on stage for a change eh ?
Noel and his digital delay3 are unbeaten
Gem. I’ll explain. Their all good but they are all, a one time deal (excluding Gem & Noel).
Noel wrote it but he’s a song writer. Gem has probably played this over and over as well as having a direct line to god (the original composer). He’ll have had constant feedback and over the years perfected it to a point to what was originally intended. It’s real and it’s raw.
If it was me, I’d add something that’s missing.
Spot on.
Marr's solo is superb.
Johnny Marr!
Marr
Squire
Noel
Gem
Last but not least-
Smith
You should have include Steve Craddock who played the song in Copenhagen with Oasis but nice comparison video! Noel plays it the best
That's a new one for me! Ty for the tip!
Noel Gallagher's Budokan Supernova no contest czcams.com/video/MDn_hcVIKAk/video.html
Really hope Andy got his chances as well
Paul Weller's original solo adapted by Noel live circa 1998 will always be best, but every time I listen to this it's Gem's passionate, soulful, and dreamy solo that stands out more. Simple, low key, and better than Squire and Marr
At 5mins I legit thought there were 2 Noel’s For a second.
ok i wanna hear a lot more johnny marr face melters like that one, holy shit.
biblical
I preferred Squire cause I love the stone roses sound. Marr sounded the best, he flow stated it. But the Original by Noel. That’s the one that touch’s the soul.
Nothing beats Paul Weller ( IMHO) but that said, I’d prefer Noel singing. He treats all Oasis songs with respect. Liam only contempt.
El solo de Noel Gallagher fue mejor, rockeo más que los demás.
Gem is the best, cuz his performance is so cool.
Noel’s is comfortably the best……and I wasn’t expecting to say that!
Jonny Marr wins in my view. He owned it.
If you are guitar player you have to say Marr..more sofisticated double stops, you know what i mean🤘🏻
Am a guitar player. Marr ain't that good lol John Squire is miles better!
Johnny Marr and John Squire
Gem played a full electric version in 2000 when Noel dropped out of your. Would be a better comparison. Also why has widescreen footage for Barrowlands been switched to 4:3?
Damn Gem put some soul on it. Nice.
I'd love to see a Paul Weller's live version of his CS solo (for those who don't know, Paul Weller played the solo on the studio version so he's kinda the original)
interesting... Love John Marr version
Gem and Noel.,..❤ solo
Noel for me. Probably because he knows it so well. Then Johnny Marr. Technically obviously Johnny Marr & Squire are on another level
But what fits fits & Noel knocked it out the park.
John Squire shreds man can't top it....the other legends they just add more feel to it. Talking about technique Squire wins but talking about feeling etc Marr is the man
Johnny Marr, my god
Noel's is the best.
Weller
Noel and Marr!!!
Noel version still the best
I love John (S and M) so much but Gem fucking slayed it. He loves that shit.
Marr walks this. squire is a pretty amazing second.
There's a clear winner here and it's Noel. Best timing. Best feel. He's in the pocket......end of
My top 3 IMO The sound Noel gets out of the guitar just hits the spot for the track, perfect sound and feel. Followed closely by Marr. Different dynamic with NGHFB so feels unfair to judge in the same light, Gems unreal though still.
Well, Noel freely admits he's never been the greatest guitar player. The greatest song writer, yes, but never the greatest guitar player. I think Noel is self-taught. So now Gem plays lead guitar for the HFB and Noel plays rhythm guitar. Johnny Marr ftw, always and forever.
First one sounds the best clearly
The best one is Johnny Marr... 2016 ♡♡ XDD
Weller still played it best!
John squire is definitely the best guitarist of the group. But mar had the best solo this time around.
An extremely subjective opinion... as is mine that Johnny Marr is a more tasteful less wanky guitarist than John Squire - everything Squire did after the Roses 1st album was coked up and overplayed.
absolutely just your opinion, but happens to be mine as well haha
I think JM is way superior to Squire in almost every possible way. And I love Squire, mind you, but he's not in the same league. Just my opinion, of course, it's all subjective.
Johnny Marr for me!
Totally forgot Johnny Marr played that night in Glasgow 😂
A toss up between Marr n Squire for me , but all equally as good, no wrong answers
Noel was my favorite… Marr was also incredible and Gem has a nice attack but this video didn’t do him justice… all great guitarists in their own right. Really enjoyed the new Chris and Liam song as well. Cheers.
They're all great but Johnny Marr's was the most personal IMO, it was really good.
Theyre all great. Theyre just giving out their best it depends on how they play the song like the ones in earls court where noel is just doing loop sound could be better but it works.. They know their sound. Its not fair to call them shite or crap and they damn well know that they respected each others too.
Gem archer for me 🎉
Feeling of noel best 🎉❤
JOHNNY Fuckin MARR.
Would love to hear what Steve Cradock would do x
As long as Chris Sharrock is kicking the shit out of the drums, who gives a shit about the guitarist!
Nobody gives a shit about the drummer
Johnny and Gem
Bonehead’s a legend but Gem was so underrated when he was in oasis his DLBIA solo is godlike.
Also the version for Noel was a pretty poor choice when budokan 1998 exists
Correct
Don't think there is any big different between the Noel solo in the video and the one you are refererring to from Budokan 98. Perhaps you are thinking about the Champange Supernova outro from Budokan 98.
If we're talking Budokan '98 then forget everything....Setting Sun/Fade In Out...All Noel, all acoustic....beats the shit out of everyone!!
Johnny Marr. Hands down.
Squire 👌
Johnny Marr 👌
Great video. Answer? Paul Weller.
Gem. That's it.
1. Gem
2. Johnny
3. Noel
4. Squire
5. Tim
