Great review. I think reel manufacturers are very aware of people like you. For that reason they improved quality in the lower price range, and we fishermen are better off. Thanks! 👊
Currently have a penn battle 3 dx mated to a 8ft tsunami carbon shield 2 and it feels so good and handles big fish so well. There's no fear or worry about the setup and you can crank out monsters with supreme confidence.
The main gear beauty pageant was epic. 🤣🤣
Your reviews are incredible! I just found your site. The next time I’m looking for a reel I’ll be coming here first! Seriously...you are the reel whisperer!
you are the best in fishing reels. many thanks from me in northern lappland in sweden.
Thanks brotha
Besides all the new bells and whistles that it has this is one of the best things penn has ever done with the color. I work in a tackle shop and people could care less about the upgrades they look at the battle 3 in the case next to the Dx and say let me have the sliver one. I’m easily selling 6x more dx’s that battle 3 based on color before I even explain the difference’s
Great video! If you can get your hands on one, could you do a video on the new Penn low profile reels?
Omg I love the main gear Beauty pageant 😂 you literally have me DYING every vid 🤣 love you bro
And I have notifications on for your channel, but I just now got notified like wtf 🤬
Thanks for doing this!!! I now own four of these Penn Battle III DX 4000 reels. I have had years and years of wonderful use with older Penn Battle II 4000. Extra special when I listen to you being impressed!!! I trust your reviews!!!
Would be overkill for those wet noodle rods they pair them with
After watching this I don't feel so bad now that I bought the battle 3 dx 800 for my 11ft pen prevail rod. Thanks for the info. I usually clean my own reels so this was a help
the main gear beauty pageant had me dead XD
Great video! I really enjoy your content.
Wow very surprising to see a brass main gear in a sub $150 reel. Do we know if penn will put the DX series reel out as a combo package? That would be interesting to see.
Works for me!! Thank you!
I have a Penn Pursuit 3 and Had a Battle II 4000. Just ordered the DX 3000
Great stuff as usual Scoob!
DX is dealer exclusive. It's for small independent tackle shops to sell.
Are you planning to review PENN Clash II? I am very curious about your opinion regarding that reel.
I bought a Battle 3 Dx 8000 today, should be fine paired with a 12 ft rod for shore fishing. I wanted a Daiwa BG 8000 but they are nowhere to be found in Canada and my second choice was the Battle 3 8000 until I saw the Battle 3 DX model $50.00 cheaper. I had to get it and I did. Thanks for the info and for what to check inside the beast that the 8000 seems to be at 27.7 oz.
I love my DX. Just picked up a 6k this week
Great video, epic reel....👍👍👍
It think dx is supposed to mean dealer exclusive. I was looking at the battle 3 3000 and and the spinfisher vi 3500. I wasn’t sure about the new battle as it just came out. Knew the spinfisher had a good reputation so bought that. After a about an hour or two of use, when I would reel in my lure I would feel clicking or something like that, and it just didn’t feel right when I would reel. Eventually it started to feel rough and noisy when reeling in. Now over the past couple weeks the reel sometimes binds up when the spool is at the top of its oscillation. Next time I used it blackfishing the reel would bind up when reeling in a fish. The only thing that probably screwed something up is when other reel started binding up, the trip before that the rod rack at the dock broke and feel in the water with that reel in that rack. It was only under the water for a minute at most before we could get the rack back. Rinsed my setups that feel in the water when I got home. Supposed to be a sealed reel. Not like it’s been constantly getting dunked or sitting under water for an hour. I’m thinking about sending it back to penn when the season is over
Vsr y informative! Subscribed! I hsd3 several penn ssvi I enjoy them callme a spin fish 6 fan boy! 😂
I have a battle 2 in the 1000 size and get wind knots all the time, I figured it was just me or the line I was using
Penn have had brass main gears in the older ssv . They were great quality until a period they went cheap with Haibo fishing company and rebranded a bunch of crap. It’s good to see they go back to their roots.
Excellent review. Curious to ask you because clearly you know reels, would it be worth it to upgrade my Penn 4000 LE with the brass gear from a DX?
Hi, is the knob rivetted to the DX & battle 3 handle? Do we need to drill them to exchange to OEM knob?
love your videos my amigo. is it possible to switch the handle from battle 3 to spinfisher VI? do they match? thanks a lot
Is it possible to buy just the brass or aluminum main gear part from the DX or III and put it in a Battle II? I already own a Battle II, why not just upgrade the part instead of buying a whole new reel considering not much else changed. Anybody have any insight?
okuma azores has a bottom stack drag washer for $140.00 , wonder if you can upgrade battle 2 zink gears with battle 3 dx brass gears ?
What braid is that on the Spinfisher? Love that color.
Nice review. Would love to see an update including the battle iii LE (Limited edition)? I think DX is deluxe edition?
Have you gotten your hands on a battle 3 hs? If so, how does it compare to the dx? Thank you so much!
What parts would I need to change to make a fierce 3 into a battle 3
I like my battle 2 but much prefer my Daiwa bg overall. These seem like great upgrades from the battle 2. I'd really like to see the battle 3 and high speed version, along with the dx models in depth compared with a BG. Feel like the comp just got tighter with this new lineup.
Your Battle 2 is basically a Pursuit 3
excellant video very informative and thorough just bought a 2500 yesterday love the price with a brass main cant see paying more for a shimano or daiwa grew up with penn's would rather spend more$$$ on the rod's i use
mine makes the "chut chut chut" noise that you described new out he box and its driving me nuts lol
Lol 😂
Awesome
I love penn reels
You are the AVE of fishing reel breakdown...good job learned a lot
A ball bearing can be ADD to the regular Battle 3 , at the spool shaft ?
Please i need an answer .Thank you in advance !
I bought the 3000 Dx. Besides getting the brass gear, power knob and wave spring you are supporting independent tackle dealers. Dealer exclusive.
Hello,I'm wanting to start fishing again,so in the look out for a reel, max I wanna spend is around 100-160,I've been seeing the Daiwa bg6500,but seeing the Penn battle for around the same price, now I'm not sure, similar drag of 25-33,which is more recommended
Hope you can get your hands on a Penn Slammer IV soon for a tear down! The rep said DX stands for Dealer Exclusive - meaning Penn will not be selling them directly on their website.
28:30 didnt the brass gear had a bearing on it?? maybe that is why it weights so much more..?
Does it really have a graphite rotor? I thought that all battle 3:s, regular and DX, were all aluminium.
Does the 4500 DX have the same size drive gear as a spinfisher VI4500LL? I assume buying the main gear from Penn for the 2500 or 4500 DX and swapping it into the spinfisher wouldn't be worth the minor strength increase vs the alu/brass composite it currently has?
Can you do the Diawa Certate 5000D. I have it, but wanna know your opinion on the construction of the reel. Thank You.
Hey, would you happen to know what the main gear in the new diawa saltist mq is made of?
How can I put a black handle, and an EVA foam power knob on my 4500 slammer 3? Are there parts from other reels that would fit?
Never mind the reels. Where did you get that screwdriver???? all mine are green.... real nice.
I just used a dremel to same off the bail trip on my battle 1 haha
Would you suggest a 4000 or a 5000 do for a 10’ surf rod? I really want to get one of the DX but don’t know what size
I do wish they would get away from the huge door knob handles. Or maybe offer an option of other handles to pick from.
The weight comparison of the main gear was interesting but I was curious as to the total weight comparison of each real?
When you weighed the main gears you still had the baring attached to the dx main gear.
Do you a video comparison between the DX and the battle 3 high speed?? And what is the advantage of having a brass main gear vs the aluminum?
that braid color is :fire:
When are you doing the Penn slammer 4 DX IT LOOK AMAZING
I am a HUGE PENN FANBOY. I am South African and I fish rock and surf. I have the PENN BATTLE 3 6000 (which over here has a brass main gear) and I have a PENN FIERCE 3 6000. Both reels have done a bit of battle with some fish and I've been very impressed.
This is the best and most in depth review I have watched on CZcams. Thank you
@@lurefishing24 I think the Authority has a stainless steel rotor.
@@lurefishing24 I'm in the same boat. That's why I bought the Battle. It has a brass rotor that is as smooth as butter 😁
@@lurefishing24 apologies, I confused the rotor with the main gear.
Guess I lucked out I have 2 battle ii and never had the issue with wind knots
I'd love to see it compared with the Spheros inshore 4k after you get some fish caught on it. I was about to order a Spheros, but seeing this reel and its apparent quality at the same price point has got me doubting which I might want. I had terrible experiences with my SSV (irreparably failed zinc gear and trashed pinion, seized line roller, wind knots, terrible line lay e.g.), which I thought had turned me off of Penn spinners forever, but they seem to have fixed most of those issues and I'd like to see how they fare against one another. Downgraded old model Shimano vs upgraded new model Penn is seeming pretty interesting
I have a battle 3 5000 do you think it can handle small to medium Halibut in Alaska?
On 6000 size and up, there is little difference between the DX and the regular Battle 3. Both have the brass main and pinion gear and have a round power handle.
So the only difference would be the bearing supported drag and the color on the 6000 up?
@@TubeYou7 yes
So between spinfisher and battle 3 dx which one is the best?
Can u plez do a review on the quantum accurist s3 baitcaster plez.
Penn battle 3 DX vs Daiwa BG in 8000?
I know the Daiwa bigger in the same size but it's really not too much heavier.
I want to buy that reel from J&Htackle, how do I get that 10 percent off? I subscribed, is there a coupon code?
I even have a 10,000 size awesome reels by far for the money.
Yo i found that combo your boy threw overboard. Caught a 30lb StryPah!
Lmao
So with that being said which reel should I get for inshore the dx or daiwa fuego or bg
Exactly all that and no pick
I just bought the last two 2500 battle 3 dx reels in stock at Captain Harry’s for my upcoming Canada fishing trip. I don’t know whether to thank you or curse you for making me spend $250. (I tried your link first but they were sold out).
Have you fished with these reels yet?
What’s the difference between these reels and the Penn battle 3 LE reel on the white rod, bought the battle 3 LE combo but I’m not sure what LE means no matter where I look can’t get any info on it
Bro.. Spinfisher Vl 4500 or battle 3 dx 5000..which one is better for rock fishing
Love your reviews....
Question..does the spin fisher VI have the wave spring?...
I have an 8000 I use for sturgeon and hopefully pelagic if I can ever travel again
Yes it does.
@@TackleAdvisors thanks bud
I likey! I like the color as well! But if you say Penn wants to compete with the Stradic FL...but sorry not even close. I own the FL 4000 and battle 3 4000 sizes and the smoothness and lightness on the Stradic waaaay better...and I have them on both with 15lb braid and hands down the Stradic out casts the Battle like I'd say 10 to 15 more yards especially when using swimbaits. But the Battle 3 is more improved though on smoothness than the previous. The DX is still something I might get as well...it looks like a nice finesse reel.
does the dx have a metal or graphite rotor, in the vid you said it was graphite but i thought the battle line had metal rotors
Would you suggest this over the spinfisher?
Is this reel better than the spinfisher vi?
is the procyon al review gonna come ?
Love the Bieber edit lmao.. anyways been loving the new 6000 saragosa on the 10ft. Balances beautifully! Been looking for a backup reel. BG4000 might be too light? Does it have a decent size gear? or should i step up to the DX5000? I wish there were more 16oz reels!
How does the battle dx compare to the spin fisher 6 ?
What is it that makes wind knots when casting with a spinning reel?
Usually uneven or loose line lay
Is the Battle 3 high speed a good quality reel ?
My 2008 Quantum Cabo would have won the main gear beauty pageant.
Wish I found you before I bought my equipment
Can you take the DX gear and put it in the regular battle??
Battle3 8000HS. Vs Battle3 8000DX You should do a comparison on both of those those are the brand new ones that just came out it would be nice to see which one is better
I purchased one of these HS 6000 - Penn has some issues, besides bearings, the crosswind gear has no shim or washer under the bottom and making the plastic stread all over the gears. I was told by a penn tech - replace the unit get a slammer 3 - which I ended up doing.. Buy a Fierce and get good drag washers.
Dang ,you musta had several cups of coffee before you started this one. Anywho ,I had to look hard ,but found one .delivered for $119.95 three mo. after this review. Hope it has a flounder in its future.
finally! i got a penn battle 3 dx about a month ago and ive only gotten to use it twice but i like it. i dunno why but......... how many penn boxes do you have?
Boxes? Hmmm 25 maybe?
i have like........... 3
Wait, the DX has a graphite rotor? I thought the standard battle has an aluminum rotor, my 8000 battle 2 does anyways. If it is graphite, does the standard battle 3 have that as well or just the DX?
Graphite = plastic : (
Late to the party, but like these type videos.. thx>
Kinda wondering what the slip-joint pliers/wrench that is you are using, @ 19:48, to remove that Main shaft spool nut ?
Knipex pliers wrench 6 inch i think or the 7...best dang wrench for reel service
@@TackleAdvisors Thx.. I see why you like them.. gettin me a pair.
Great video Scoob!! Thoughts on how this compares to the Spheros 3K? Have you thought of doing a new best $100ish dollar fee comparison shootout
Spheros has already been reviewed and it's a bit shit. Last winner of best $100 reel was the bg.
@@Kaptainrdean I’ve watched both of those videos and he did not say the Spheros 3k was a bad real
Steve Story You're right, it was just average. Putting a bushing instead of a 2nd bearing to support the main gear was an instant deal breaker for me.
Protip: Fill up the gaps inside/between the line roller assebly with high-viscosity oil i.e. bicycle chain lubricant, and it works like Daiwa's magshield. Even better than the magshield, because those chain lubricants are purposefully engineered to stand up against water, dust, salt, and every evil stuff you can imagine out there. The oil's surface tension keeps them from leaking out(that's why you need the high viscosity) and sheds off water like magic. Don't go cheap and get the good synthetic oils because they are still a ton cheaper than fishing reel lubricants.
Good to know! 👍💯💥
The key is to inject the oil up to the point where you can get the visual of the shimmering liuqid inside the gap between the line roller and the bail arm
Ehhh not what I would recommend... It'll become a sand magnet. I grease my line roller bearings but try to make sure it stays in the bearing and I oil the hub
Penn battle dx vs Shimano spheros inshore?
“Dx” stands for dealer exclusive
No. the ’X’ means silver and ’D’ for dark 😂 3:53
@@fish-o-rama he is asking because at 3:52 he said he doesn’t even know what it means
Correct!
No, it stands for D-Generation X 😂
@@lisandrovalencia8802 no it doesn’t lol
The battle iii 4000 high speed have a brass main gear that is larger than the gear on the regular battle iii 4000 and the 4000dx
Good to know.
correct, that is a function of gear ratio
Heavy as Hell !!!!!!!!! Boat anchors
Sir please do answer is the rotor metal or graphite
