- In this Podcast, me and Dr William Barylo talk about the struggles that William faced after becoming a revert, and after moving to england, including racism on account of his nationality (Polish) And him being Muslim.
Dr William Barylo is a Polish Revert who lived in France for most of his life. He converted to Islam while in France, got married and divorced, and moved to England. With only his PHD and camera equipment, he slowly found employment at The University Of Warwick (Coventry, England), not before facing many challenges due to him being Muslim And polish. At one point, he was even rejected from a MUSLIM CHARITY because he prayed too much and because his beard was too long!! Its a crazy story, we go over many more things in this video though, including tips for reverts, things you should know as a revert, and other interesting stuff. I learnt a lot during this interview, i hope you'll find it as interesting as i did.
BTW, this is a reupload. The previous video had an encoding error, which cut off 12 minutes from the end of the video. Alhamdulilah, i rerendered it (Which took a while and failed 3 times) but it is now good Inshallah.

Thanks for having me Jan! It was a pleasure!
It was a pleasure to have you on!
Jazakallah, I didn’t know there was a racial difference for being polish in Islam I’m sorry for that but I can’t help but ask you to repeat the verses and a Hadiths to advise those brothers!
Being a Muslim girl from Bosnia and Herzegovina, a European country with a majority Muslim population, I often experience a sense of cultural shock when interacting with the Islamic community from other countries. Islam is an international religion, but sometimes the people can make it feel a bit exclusionary. When I tell people from other countries that I'm Muslim, it's almost as if they find it hard to believe because I don't wear a hijab and I'm white. Additionally, Islam has been a part of Europe for centuries, but sometimes people fail to recognize this. There are many centuries-old mosques in: Bosnia (the oldest mosque dates back to 1457), Albania (the oldest mosque was completed in 1614), North Macedonia (the oldest mosque was built in 1438), and Kosovo (the oldest mosque was built in 1289). Islam is everywhere and it's not exclusive to any country, and that's just one of the many beautiful things about islam
I never knew Islam had that much of a presense in Europe! i thought it was mostly the middle east that had old mosques like that
@@JanRyczkowski Ottoman presence basically. Also hundreds of years before the Ottomans, Al-Andalus was a thing
Even as a Muslim woman who wears a hijab I'd be shocked as well if I see you. Even though I know Islam is for everyone. But hijab is an identity of a muslim woman (I hope you're not one of those who'd bring argument over this statement) and beard is for men. People instantly recognise because of these traits also mostly are used to watching brown, black muslims maybe that's why.
@@jojos9788 yes I completly understand. I was more of a lukewarm muslim growing up and islam was something that was almost cultural to me. I am now proud to say that I have reverted to islam and I have improved my understanding of it. The hijab is a huge step for me and I am currently trying to improve my wardrobe by buying more modest clothing, I am trying to ease myself into it basically. But a lot of Bosnian muslim women don't wear the hijab so I didn't even understand it when I was little, I believe I am improving though :)
@@azikazikazik the brother talking about islam, ottoman anda andalusia is not a religion
There is a big difference between practicing muslim due to culture and practicing muslim through knowledge
Salam bro I am a native white British revert and you are most welcome and yes I have had the same experiences from the same community as you I left them and I work in Saudi to get away from them.I am in Leicestershire when I'm in the UK and Warwick is not far I hope to meet up with you If I get a chance when I get back in the summer best Regards Lee. Ma salama
Please try to live in a Muslim populated city or a remote village in uk, so you can guys have a good ground and voice
Islam doesn’t belong to any one race/culture, it is a gift from Allah and he gives to whomever he prefers. We should be grateful that Allah blessed us with Islam.
Great discussion... I hope new reverts or people wanting to revert listen to this and know that muslims are not all good or really following the deen properly...
It must be really difficult times to revert to Islam I imagine where in one side all the hate and anti Islam propaganda from the west and on the other muslims are weak and distant from the deen...
Remember Jan the best generation of Muslims ever to exist, where all reverts❤
Subhan Allah amazing point 👍
As a born Muslim I find it incredibly stupid to do this to reverts
Surah 49 Ayat 10
Truly, believers are brothers. Therefore, reconcile your brothers and fear Allah, so that you may be pardoned.
Surah 2 Ayat 152
Remember Me, and I will remember you. Thank Me and don't be ungrateful to Me
Surah 20 Ayat 132
And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness.

"Thank Me and your parents: everyone will return to Me for calculation and retribution!"
Surah 31 Ayat 14
Verse in full:
And We have bequeathed a man to be kind to his parents and take care of them, especially the mother, because the mother carries him in her womb, and her weakness increases as the child grows; and she weans him from the breast only after two years. We commanded: "Thank Me and your parents: everyone will return to Me for calculation and retribution!"
4:10 that’s true about being white definitely. I’m Turkish ( literal caucasian 😂) and I have never got a bad look from Americans. I don’t think that would change if I had a beard
Love you all may Allah bless you
