  • A wonderful Talk by Sushri Sahana Singh on the ancient Indian education system and her recently published book on the same topic:
    "Educational Heritage Of Ancient India".
    The speaker discusses in detail the glory of advance education system of India and the well developed universities with huge campus and a well accomplished library, where scholars from various nations used to come for studying. She gives references from Mahabharata and other renowned scriptures where the ashrams of many scholarly Rishis trained young men and women in many fields of education such as: Vedas, literature, grammar, logic, mathematics and sciences. After completing education Gurus used to encourage students to travel far and wide to gain experience. The debates among scholars was a great way to propogate knowledge to the common people.
    Many invasions by Turks, Mughals and many others over the years slowly affected the entire system and much of the heritage was lost. By the time British came to India the scientific, logical approach towards knowledge had reduced to nominal and the economy was in poor shape, thus giving an impression that India needed western education.
    About the speaker:
    Sushri Sahana Singh is an author and commentator based in Texas, USA. She is an environmental engineer by qualification who writes on a variety of issues including Indian history, water management and education. Her two books on India's educational heritage have been appreciated for awakening Indians to the role played by India in spreading knowledge around the world. Smt Sahana is on the board of many nonprofit organizations related to history, heritage, education, restoration of Samskara and to the cause of helping Hindu refugees.

      Bharath has to introspect and go back to its roots.. Sanathan Dharma. Gurukuls have to come up where true and honest teachers teach the life sciences, vedas, Samskrit and whatever required to safeguard our Sanathan Dharma. True History of Bharath has to be published in text books for all age groups for all classes and for all universities. Youth needs to opt for arts subjects like history and literature, to explore the truth of our dharma.

    The history of HIndu India, that is India before the Islamic and Christian invasions, is a glorious and prosperous one and one that should make every Indian proud today. We were the richest, most advanced, more cultured and diverse civilisation in the world. The vast majority of discoveries in the ancient world come from India. India today needs a renaissance of Hinduism so that we can revive the same culture and climate that made us glorious and prosperous in the past, so we can be glorious and prosperous in the future.

      @archianand986 Před 4 lety +1

      @Static Charge Red Field When it comes to describing details & subtleties, no language in the world is as good as Sanskrit, Sanskrit can even define the different states of spiritual experience one is currently in, Sanskrit can describe the inner nature of things, and is the most clearest language to speak in the whole list of languages, because the alphabet is designed keeping in mind the types of sounds that a human being can produce in reality, besides the Sanskrit dictionary has more words than English ever had. If one speaks Sanskrit often, he is using all the parts inside his/her mouth in a much scientific manner, which is even said to cure diseases. And even Sanskrit has a third gender called the Ubhayalinga which denoted common nouns, and it's more ancient than Latin for that matter.

    Religion led to science. This is what I always believed about India. I am proved right today. Ours is not a European society where science arose as an antithesis to religion.

    • @PastPresented
      @PastPresented Před 6 lety +2

      Your concept of European society is a little unfair. The recovery of science in Europe after the Asian invasions which triggered the collapse of the Roman Empire was partly due to the work of religious figures like Archbishop isidore of Seville and the Venerable Bede.

    • @du_boy
      @du_boy Před 6 lety +16

      PastPresented It may be so, but there were debates like faith vs doubt, logic and rationality vs accepted beliefs, right? My point is this kind of debate has not been a characteristic of Indian society historically. Because for us faith and reason are one and the same. I don't think a Hindu can know anything about the world until he/she practices Dharma (the religion of Hindus). All the ancient knowledge systems in India, be it politics, economy, statecraft, science, astrology, medicine etc., were all based on Dharmic principles. So for us religion and science are the same. That's what I meant.

    • @du_boy
      @du_boy Před 6 lety +9

      This leads to one more conclusion: that for us Indians tools and knowledge systems are interlinked with social purpose. A knowledge system exists to serve a certain social function. Which is a great thing I guess. Because over-glorification of science and technology is also bad and has the capacity to kill the human/emotional elements within us. In fact it is already happening. The more 'educated' a person, more chances of him getting stressed, depressed and frustrated, whereas people who are Dharmic live peaceful lives, irrespective of whether they earn lakhs of crores or not.

    • @PastPresented
      @PastPresented Před 6 lety +3

      I would argue that it is possible for a truly educated person to live a peaceful life in which wealth has minimal relevance. The ones who get stressed are the ones who feel the need to use their education to enrich themselves. We are communicating via the World Wide Web, which is free because its creators were more interested in the spread of knowledge than in enriching themselves.

      @charuuppal7043 Před 6 lety +3

      Nothing is free. WWW cannot be used without an investment in smart phones and computers. And a subscription to the net. And then again----use of the internet depends on the user. PS: Artha--making of name and fame is one of the four goals of life. Till a certain point in life (both age and amount)---money will always have relevance. Training of the mind, application of ego in the right direction, all these, therefore, were part of Indian education. Use of internet as an educational tool is a much later development. The reason for creating a system like the internet was not education but communication. There were no great goals as an intention behind it. Much of the technology --as always develops as an immediate or foreseeable need--and then many other factors take over that determine how it will be used eventually.

      Great suggestion. But I have high amount of belief, that such channels won't promote such things. It's not that they aren't aware of high standards of ancient India. Still, it doesn't help their narratives of modern history and modern science.
      Narratives are part of soft power.
      And no one likes to giving credits to others , and destroy their own narratives.
      US and it's close allies likes to describe history through their own lens, which helps their own narratives. So, although scientists like niels bohr and carl Sagan were interested in vedas and upanishads, corporations/media of Westernworld, disregard much of India as false or try to confuse it not as glorious or authentic. It's unfortunate but true.

    Many thanks for this wonderful lecture. I never knew so many things about my own heritage. Lectures like these help me connect the jigsaw puzzle of the truth part by part.
    Also, thanks for the books mentioned. If I had not watched this, I would never have known about such great works.

Truth must prevail. time is coming where billions of people will come on the internet. we need to make them aware as many as possible.
