    FINALLY!!!! BOSS did it right and released a unit that is better suited for gigging and has all the features that make sense and none that don’t. The GT-1000 was just too complicated and not practical for many players. Most importantly, the amp sounds finally sound GOOD and no longer have that BOSS “digital artifact” that just never sounded right to my ear, especially going direct. I have stayed away from the BOSS multi-effects units as a result, but this one will make its way to my board soon!! Way to go, BOSS!!! đŸ€˜đŸ€˜

    I really like what I see & hear. I am interested in what type of amp is being used. My personal findings, are to get the real & best sound of a multi effects unit (Many of the independent pedals) is not by running through an true (All sounds-one speaker) power source. I think I have one of the best amps on the market. I use the Mesa Boogie TC 50 watt head & 2X 12 Vertical mesa cabinet. I thought this was the best way to test & get the best accuracy. I think I was wrong. I feel by running devices through a "Tower P.A.-like the Bose systems, whereas the high end speakers are seperated from the sub= the truest & best results. I am going to buy one & make my decision there. I do not think Mitch is running this through a full range speaker(s).

    Hi I have a question. I use this with my Fender Champion 100XL Solid State amp and sometimes I use the 4 cable method or I just put it straight into the return. Which Output settings could I pick as I feel like the Line settings doesn’t work but it does not list output settings for solid state amps anywhere? I have told been told to use the Tube Combo 212 Input but I’m not sure if I should use the Tube Combo 212 Return instead for a 4 cable method (or just into the return) as I cannot tell which one is more appropriate.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Pƙed rokem

      Hi, K-string19. The best way depends on how you’re using the unit. If you’re using a lot of amp models, then either a 4-cable method or direct into the FX loop would make the most sense. If you use the FX loop, you’ll want to have an amp model active at all times. Also, since you’re running through a real cab and speaker, make sure you turn off any cab emulation. If you’re just using the pedal for effects, you can run it straight into the front of the amp. As for the output level, if you’re running to the FX loop return, I would think line level would work well but every FX loop is a bit different so you’ll just want to experiment and see which one sounds best and gets the appropriate level for you.

      The outs are not TRS balanced, so yes a DI box is the best way to get a solid signal to FOH. It doesn’t have to be active unless the cable run is exceptionally long.

      @sweetwater  Pƙed měsĂcem +1

      Hi, funnyharleyman! Thanks for your message, hope you’re well and safe. A “fixed” chain means the effect order cannot be changed nor can other algorithms be added. The GX-100 allows the user to move effects to anywhere in the signal chain, regardless of any external connection to an amp or monitoring system. This allows for many more creative and versatile sounds to be programmed. Your amp and its effects loop are not part of how the processing work, though they can be routed in via the send and return jacks using a four or five cable method.

      Hi, Scott! Thanks for the interest. This is a brand new product so I had to get in touch with my contacts at Roland to get you an answer, and I just heard back. The output jacks on the GX-100 are not balanced. With regard to the USB connection, USB type B is still the most common connection type for firmware updates and editor communication on guitar processors. I don't know when/if they will be making the switch to USB-C, but my Roland rep assures me that they find the USB-B connections to be highly reliable for their purposes. Hope this helps, and feel free to contact me directly with any further questions!

      Hi, The Lowmein. The GX100 works great with headphones. One of the best things about this type of product is that you can get the sound of a full rig into headphones for silent playing at any time. I wouldn’t expect the headphone amp to be super powerful so I would look at lower impedance headphone options. The Shure SRH440 or Sennheiser HD280 would both be great options.

      She uses it as a standalone unit for smaller gigs and maybe for some other gigs when doing things under her name but she was using the Marshall JVM410HJS (The Satriani signature Marshall) amp with Alice Cooper and I think that she uses the GT 1000 for effects with that amp for the Alice gig. It's a great amp. I have one here. It's actually the last new amp release to have Jim Marshall's signature put on it. It also obviously has Satriani's name on it. Any amp that was released before the JVM410HJS that is still in production still has Jim's signature on it and I assume that any reissue would, but it is my understanding that since Jim Marshall's passing, no new amp release will bear his signature. The Jim Marshall era stands iconic. There is an interview somewhere around here with former Marshall engineer and I think CEO Santiago Alvarez where he talks about that being the last production amp to bear Jim's signature.

      I'm looking at this for effects only. I used a Helix live for a year and went back to a real amp. There's no comparison. The helix souned okay but for feel and dynamics you can't beat a cranked Dr Z. Some of my friends use modelers and they sound good when i go see their bands, but when i see a really great guitar player like the other night (Brandon Taz Neiderauer) playing through a cranked Fender Twin you just can't argue which is better. So I'm gonna respectfully disagree. We still need an amp on stage.

    When using headphones - is there any easy way to input music from a phone or computer to play along with - instead of wearing 2 sets of headphones?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Pƙed rokem +1

      Hi, thanks for your interest! Although there’s no analog aux input on the GX-100, there are a few ways to do what you describe. If you’re using a computer, the simplest option would be to connect the GX-100 to the computer via USB and install the Boss USB driver. This enables sending audio back and forth between the computer and the pedal, so you could play backing tracks from the computer and hear them in your headphones - you can also record your performance to the computer this way.
      One other option would be to add Boss’s BT-Dual Bluetooth adapter - this way, you could stream music from a Bluetooth device (such as a smartphone) and hear it through your headphones:
      www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BTDual--boss-bt-dual-bluetooth-audio-midi-dual-adapter
      Yet another solution would be to use a small mixer. You could have both the pedal and your phone connected to the mixer, and you’d hear the combined signal through the mixer’s headphone output. The Mackie Mix5 is a good affordable choice for this approach:
      www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Mix5--mackie-mix5-5-channel-compact-mixer

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Pƙed 2 lety

      Hey there! If you’re wanting to power a guitar cab with it, then no. This could certainly be sent into multiple power amps, or to an amp and front of house. But this multi-fx pedal doesn’t have the ability to power a cab. It has a stereo output, with a send and return (like an effects loop). With those outputs, they’re always going to have the same FX applied. So, you wouldn’t be able to send one signal with an impulse response, and one without.
      I hope this helps!

    • @sweetwater

      Hi, Joe. The GX100 allows you to set different guitar input levels and then apply those to different presets. For example, let's say you're playing a heavy song and you're going to be using a guitar with active humbuckers, but on another song you're going to be using a cleaner sound with a passive single coil guitar. Typically there would be a large volume disparity between those guitars. The GX100 allows you to adjust the input level so that your clean preset with the single coils is at the same volume level as your heavy preset with the humbuckers.
