What will this practically make a difference with
@@jonathankahanovitch2839 The price lol
@@jonathankahanovitch2839 I guess that when using it as an audio interface, you're limited to 48k with the GX. I don't think that it matters for guitar, but maybe there's people that take want to capture in the highest sample rate and depth possible.
@@jonathankahanovitch2839 the marketing strategy involved
Could even make the gx100 more snappy and quick to respond if the same processor is processing a lower bitrate signal ?
Arigato, Captain Lee & Digital John. We hope your viewers and customers enjoy the new BOSS GX-100.
The name is official. Boss just called him digital john.
Danish Pete has the the trademark on D, gotta be Effects John!!!
Modeler John, or perhaps Mod John?
Love the video and what great product! I really want to buy this unit, but I do not want a onboard expression pedal. I will be the first in line once Boss offers a unit without an onboard expression.
Yes i love it❤️
Digital John segments are one of the best bits of this channel!
I have so much to learn and I consistently find myself back at your channel getting great info and being entertained at the same time, always a pleasure!
This was an awesome walkthrough. Thank you! I loved the SxS comparisons the most
Still think Andertons are missing the point on this kind of gear, no one is choosing between a multi fx or a tube amp in a straight shoot out… you get this kind of gear for pub gigs or because you can’t afford/house big amps and pedals.
Would much rather see them approach the unit like it’s own thing and how set up for home use, how easy would it be to gig, through a power cab, how to record with it etc… instead of incessantly comparing between direct out and a twin! Your comparing apples with oranges, I had hoped with Digital John (yes love the name) that it would be a more realistic practical approach….
Still love the channel and the shop just hope the approach to digital gear changes.
Xxx
Very much this. Love the channel but Lee struggles to hide his disdain.
Totally agree with you. They should add those in their presentation, especially for multifx units, IMO, multifx have come a long way and one of the best options as a backup or as a main rig.
I like them for the flexibility, especially live. Going from a slightly fuzz to full on stereo chorus, stereo delay shred with wah engaged with the press of a button...is hard to do on a standard stomp box board....unless you have a big pro setting with patch bays.
Oh how you are wrong. While yes nobody is choosing a 500 buck multi-effects unit over tube amps, more and more artists are touring with high end multi-effects units over tube amps. Tube amps are undependable on big tours. U2 and Metallica just to name two have gone the digital route. Your comment did not age well.
Very much a Father & Son feel when Lee & John demo together
I love this series of videos, please keep them coming.
Excellent critique on the outdated touch screen! The only video on CZcams that seems to give an honest review.
Yet another solid bit of kit from BOSS 💪🏻
New presenter, nicely done. And really nice playing as well.
This thing is a sleeper - everyone was a bit underwhelmed with the GT1000 and consequently haven’t given the GX100 a chance. It’s actually a monster - the sounds are the best I’ve heard from all of the modellers out there.
I have to agree sir it's 🔥
Totally agree. Sold my Quad Cortex and switched to GX-100. Also have PC editor that works great.
Dudes! I have a QC and the GX100. I finally sat down and started dialing in some tones with the Boss. what?! This thing is monstrous!
here's the thing though... people were wrong about GT-1000. its an absolute tone monster. i have gt-1000 core. its the same algorithms in Gx-100 as gt-1000 so the difference youre hearing is in your imagination
@@djangofett4879 Interesting - post a review, perhaps? Show what it can do. Cheers, Dean
I like how the captain just keeps it real with these reviews!
Sure would like to know what switching pedal you re using to compare valve amp and gx-100. Also how you do connections to and from gx-100 and valve amp...thank you
Pitch shifters are the best way to test the processing power.... how does that sound?
The way the C-1 works on the GT-1 I have is say you have a clean amp sound and for a solo you want a overdrive/distortion, delay, chorus those can all be on the C-1 switch but it's the same amp model. Instead of hitting the patch change foot switches.
what cab are you using for the room with the GX-100 - the laney FRFR?
Would love to know how you create your own signal chain, save and name?? Really struggling with this thing.
Hey john ... what would you buy .. boss gx 100 or valeton gp 200
I'm an acoustic looping soloist. Boss came out with the VE 8 and it's been great but it needs some improvements. Mainly, the looper needs undo. Can you guys see if you can talk them into upgrading it?
I have been looking to complete revamp my rig (downsizing). This looks interesting.
Have to say, Lee is excellent here, critiquing the unit (on the touchscreen etc.) and asking all the right questions such as cabs matching preamps ("original" setting).
I love my GT-1000! It's my main effects board pairing it up with my 150 Waza, but sometimes I do just use its built in amps. I may pick this up as well just to have a new toy and maybe pair it with my MK. II Katana head/cab.
Can we all just say THANK YOU to Lee and team for getting Dig-it-ahl John onbaord and going?!?!?!!?!?
I love to hear your thoughts and how you present DJ!! 😀
THANKS ANDERTONS CREW!!!
I am new to all this and have had a boss katana MK2 50 from you about a year ago. Really liked this can you just plug headphones into it for silent playing and can the boss katana MK2 50 be used for speaker. Many thanks
I know this is an older video but I need something for a three set gig with a six piece band that is simple to use between this and the head rush which would you feel would be a better fit any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated thank you.
In these"straight to desk" scenes, what are you using as studio monitors?
Hi guys..i know its a year since this overview, but the gain tone Digital John was playing at the start .is it a patch or what amp tone is it?
Had my gx100 a few days now...have dialed in one nice patch but finding the gain amps bit limited even after dailing in parameters!
This is my first processor ..im used to actual amps!
The ui is great and it sounds stellar. Bought this and more than happy with it.
can we install more amp models connecting it to the computers?
Hi Cap! Nice job with reviews and demos. What AB switch did you use?
It’s a Lehle one - great switches!
I may be wrong, the boss seems to be packed with dsp(s) but the sounds are not “warm” enough. Has a very processed sound characteristic. How is this compared to affordable zoom g11 g6 or ampero?
How does the touchscreen compare to the one on Zoom G11?
I believe the GX-100 has some bass amps as well.. could we get a bass demo as well? Thanks in advance!
Does it works on LINUX and ALSA with not drivers ? Like my GT-10B, GT-10 MFX ?
Digital John is much appreciated!
Big fan of the Katana mk2 head here... this looks really good. I wonder how the two would compare?
So Line 6 put out a katana recently and now Boss has put out a pod go....interesting! Seriously though, competition is good, keeps everyone in line so i love it. Great job as always.
This is way more advanced than the POD Go much due to the POD Go´s limitations when it comes to the effect chain and just 4 freely choosable effect blocks, the Stomp XL is closer in comparison for functionality, but it still lacks touch screen, expression pedal, possibility for adding bluetooth with phone app, has less blocks etc. Even with the bluetooth dongle the GX-100 is still cheaper than a Stomp XL also. The POD Go is a great option though, just wish it had more freedom in how to use its power. I agree that competition is good, it gets us better devices at better pricepoints.
Can you use one of the outputs (or headphone out) to just send the bluetooth signal (say backing tracks) out seperately to a different mixer channel
Sir nice output setting ?
Can the amp models be turned off so I can run into the front of my favorite amp(s)? Thanks!
I'm curious to know how this sounds/performs with bass. Are there any bass players in the comments who have this that could shed some light on their experience with this unit? Thanks.
Which amp is the Marshall sound in the Gx100?
Did they go over the looper but I missed it?
Nice video Captain......It would be good if you make the same video but this time with the Zoom G-11
@17:18 the "color" of the sound is the same ! Great ! But the sound of the GX-100 seems a bit dead.... compression ?
Would love to see an overview of this in regards to using it with a bass. Maybe Mr King can go a quick bass pedals/amp usage vid when hes next in. 😉
I really liked this walkthrough! I have a question that I hope you guys can answer. I bought the Boss GX-100 not long ago and I'm starting to use it. I also have a PODxt Live. With the PODxt I can have one effect on at a time. In other words, when I have one on, the other effects are off. That's awesome because I do not have to switch an effect off in order to not included, especially on live events. Can I do the same with the Boss GX-100 while in manual mode?
Thanks.
Si se puede .
Como se hace?@@beltrancolque1915
The switching on the gx100 is the most flexible I have tried (line 6 and QC). You can assign multiple parameters to any switch. All done through assign / ctrl menu
Is it in a metal case or plastic?. I know people are a little picky over plastic cased multi fx pedals.
Can you make the wah switchless?
love to see lee get excited about non traditional stuff
Can you use both of the amps as a mono?
3:04 There isn’t really a “layman’s terms” meaning there because 24 bit vs 32 bit has to do with technical details that “laymen” aren’t expected to know or understand. It certainly doesn’t mean that one’s faster or more powerful than the other. I suspect this one’s using 24 bit integer values to process audio (“CD Quality” is 16 bit) and the other one’s using 32 bit floating point values.
So the x amps are bogner, Friedman, uberschall, Deizel, Rivera?
Another correction (or maybe this is just out of date) There are 150+ effects in this unit. And they dont do synth or slicer pedals, they have harmonics and octave.
At the price, with MIDI and a colour touchscreen and 15 effects at once, this is a beast.
Specs say: 32-bit floating point - its probably a 32-bit processor; maybe the non-DSP related stuff is even 64-bits.
24-bits is the AD/DA conversion - which is absolute standard nowadays.
The difference between 24-bit and 32-bit AD/DA conversion is most certainly not audible. ;)
Yeah, but also we have to consider the 48khz sampling rate. I would love to see a comparison between this device and Gt1000, which has 96khz sampling rate.
@@joelmunoz7646 also not audible. At least over CZcams.
What’s the pink HSH thing in the background? Looks wild!
It's Lee's Oopegg guitar. They sell the brand at Andertons.
Stupid question maybe, and for sure off topic .
But anyone any idea when my belived BOSS ME 80 will get its successor?
Im still playing that oll beast, but would like the upgrade.
Bit better sounds. Better, (longer)seperate looper, deep tweaking through app, etc.
Once you've programmed in the patches you want, why does the appearance of the touchscreen interface matter?
17:45 sorry, they're not super close. I'm watching on a smart tv, so not super hifi, but yet I feel the difference. There's something missing in the GX sound when compared to the amp. IDK how to explain, maybe dynamics, maybe presence. I guess it's related to mids or high mids. The amp sounds more open, probably it's just EQ and possible to tweak.
I went from a gt100 to headrush pedalboard.
Not looking back. The headrush is such a solid piece of gear but over all so fun to use.
I approve this message :)
I've got the gigboard and I love it.
When you compared with a real amp I think the onscreen highlights are not very clear…. Does the “green” text mean that’s what we’re hearing? The white text looks more like a highlight… still not sure which was the one I’m hearing
You touched on the switching of patches but then unfortunately missed to demonstrate how how fast and smooth (or not) it was. Otherwise good video.
When using headphones - is there any easy way to input music from a phone or computer to play along with - instead of wearing 2 sets of headphones?
Bluetooth adaptor
Totally agree with Lee on the graphics interface. Those Budget modellers are doing an awesome job like the MG30 or Valeton GP200.
Ya, fair play Lee on that one, and for referencing headrush
awesome intro"!!
Well, I guess the BOSS KATANA MK Amps series will get an update for Christmas this year: like a small screen, like the Fender GTX :)
I will have one pleas advise the link to place online thanks
A small screen is inconsequential as you can set it up with a tablet and you wont be using it during a performance. I'm not sure the 24bit vs 32 bit affects the sound or not, but it sure does sound good from all the samples I have heard on the net. Perhaps CZcams compression hides that, I dont know. If this thing sounds good live then it really looks like a winner to me! It is the perfect size to gig with. It has everything needed to gig with. It's laid out with functionality in mind. I think it could easily replace a big pedalboard! I can't wait to get one!
I just got one 4 days ago. At first it seemed overwhelming but I'm seeing the door slowly open up to the possibilities. This is my first MFX unit
The GT-1000 Bluetooth doesn't hook up with a computer, only a tablet or a phone with the TS app. I would doubt that this one will either.
This looks very interesting to me. I've been a Boss junkie for a loooooong time. I still use a GT-6 an immense amount of time in the studio because it's effects are so damned good, and the Katana gets used at gigs for the same reason. Sim wise I've heard some other units that are stunning, but the effects quality and types have kept me coming back to Boss again and again. I also find that Boss's wah quality is just unmatched, so I hope that carries over too.
I too still use my GT-6 for my studio. I just love it. I recently bought a HX effects to run into a clean amp. I'm almost tempted to get this one now and forget the amps for gigs where I run into a PA.
How do you guys record the GT-6. Via an amp or through an audio interface. Or something else.
@@accentontheoff very simple really. Guitar - gt6 - scarlet focusrite interface - pc - reaper. I always default to that or my yamaha thr10x
@@spiceybadger Thanks. Sounds great this way, I presume? Planning to buy the GX-100 for the sole purpose of recording and can’t demo it where I live.
@@accentontheoff well I've got no experience of the gx100 but the gt6 remains my go to recording option despite plenty of other options. I guess the advantage of the yamaha thr is that it can act as an interface. Can the gx100 do this?
This looks great, and I'll bet no one can hear the difference in quality between the GX-100 and GT-1000. Maybe a blind shootout is in order?
The difference is virtually imperceptible, I was astonished
Yes like other comments it does sound okay but the competition out there now is immense.
Does anyone know what guitar he is playing there?
How is wah wah on this pedalboard?
Amazing video! Please do a bass video for this as well!!
Valeton Gp 200 or Boss ???
I agree with Lee. I had the same reaction upon seeing the display screen. Blah... Never a good look for a new/upgraded product that looks 20 years old. That being said, Its an impressive effects unit.
I need a class on how to work the GX100
Good demo.
Very happy with my GT-1000 and my SY-1000; which retired my GT-100 and GT-1 + SY-300 respectively.
Years ago as I was trying all kinds of modelers including Line 6 Helix LT and Axe-Fx Ultra, and several others over several years, I found the Boss kit worked best for me.
Still have a Zoom G1Xon and B1on, but I'm good with Boss.
Whatever modeler you choose, it's worth spending the time to learn it, understand it, to get the most you can from it.
Cheers!
Dont care for product, Im here for Digital John, his playing and charming personality.
Dig it all john!
How does it works
I can hear a massive difference between the real thing and the model. Pretty sure some strategic eq could fix it though
Totally agree with Lee on BOSS's user interfaces. They need to poach a UI designer from the smartphone world.
You can't argue with the unit as a whole, though. Sounds awesome!
Completely agree. As a software engineer I have been designing and implementing UI (User Interfaces) for decades and in my opinion Sony is the worst with Boss second. The Boss Micro BR 80 is a spectacular example of "how not to".
Lee knit picking. The Kemper interface is worse and it's 3 times the price
Point taken about the unit interface but you will be able to run it off an android app which may be easier.
@@andrebritten Kemper UI was developed in 2009... ages ago, now in 2022 Boss could do better
@Mauro Castelnuovo Kemper is 2k and boss is 559. Kemper can do better
What guitar is that?
This unit or Valeton GP 200, guys?
If I don't care about the touchscreen.... and I already have a GT 1000, would this be an upgrade at all?
No.
Can we have a head to head by price range please, it would fun to watch
At 24:17 the question is very pertinent but not totally answered. Wishing someone could complete the answer here.
Question: So to switch as fast as possible between two différent amps, let's say from a very clean sound with flanger and reverb TO a Dual Rectifier Hi disto type of sound with little delay, no reverb, no flanger. Is this unit able?
I have a Headrush, and the delay between 2 rigs is problematic for my music.
I have a Mesa Road King II head and only use Channel 2 Fat voicing with very little gain (very clean) and Channel 4 (Modern full disto). Unfortunately, this mutli tubes head is too powerful for band practice using in ear sound for instance.
Bottom line, I need two (2) very distinct sounds, with as fast as a real amps Channel switching.
Is the GX-100 allowing instant switch between 2 different rigs ?
Thank you in advance.
Kind Regards
Yea you can switch instantly, I have this unit. Going from clean amp to high gain amp.
I'd love to see the GX-100 in All about the Bass
Make a video please Gx-100 vs MX5 vs Pod Go
More clarity and 'air' on the valve, but hey, good news, audience won't really notice in live situation. This GX 100 is interesting.
i love my helix floor and wouldny go back now but only problem its big and hard to carry around or travel :(

Agree with the critics about the GUI on the screen. Still, I have been waiting a few years for a multieffect with basicly more or less just a huge touch screen and a few foot switches...

Cool , love Boss products I own a Boss GT1000 and a GT100 , so this has the AIRD tech so its gonna sound good , why hasn't Boss made this just as Powerful as the GT1000 , thats the reason I bought the GT1000 for its processing power , it hasn't froze on me yet and the options you have for connecting is unbelievably good.
Alot of people say that the GT1000 is not easy to use , maybe not for a first timer but there are thousands of Vids on how to use these products Nobody's going to be stuck.
I don't think it's really ease of use as in figuring it out, more of user friendly in such that you don't have to go in and out of menus on the fly
