    Hi Ty, I think you have to look in to just how much resistance and back-pressure each bend, T, valve etc. creates.
    I used to work in aquacuture and design and project very large fish farms, and correct piping dimensions, layout etc. had massive impact on the pump power needed (and we’re talking multiple Grundfos KPL’s going at 100gal/s at 15ft head.)
    Look at it this way; people optimize headers on cars to gain hp/effeciency, water is ~830 times denser than air!
    So you will gain a lot by designing the layout and manifold correctly.
    As a rule of thumb each 90 degree bend adds 10ft of pipe in head.

    FYI, if the condenser/water coils are a copper alloy, please confirm the flow rate through each unit never exceeds the maximum recommended to avoid erosion corrosion. Max flow rate in copper is generally around 1.5 m/s. The corrugations in the water coils can cause localized turbulence that will make erosion corrosion more prevalent. If titanium, erosion corrosion does not seem to be a concern. Great video.

    Two pumps will provide redundancy because it’s seem to be a unique products and will be hard to get a replacement in short time when you are in remote places but the price is an issue with that

    Breaking it down, rewinding a boat pump motor makes then very expensive and they don't last as long. When I get the chance I will check out if Hooker did anything more basic than that.
    Sea water strainers are mostly designed to prevent clogs, prevent damage to pluming and pumps used for engine cooling. Whole new can of worms for you to explore.
    What you are doing is unconventional and I like it.

    Just a quick physics idea. If you know the inside diameter of the pipe and the discharge is level with the water, you can calculate the GPM by how far the stream shoots out. No need for a bucket or a stopwatch. Math can be fun as well as helpful;)

    Hello
    It seems that an equal flow manifold is the solution for you in ensuring that each water heat exchanger has the same water flow through it. This means that a 1.5" ID pipe should be able to satisfy the water flow needs of 6 heat exchanges distributed throughout the catamaran. This mean that it will require two manifolds run in parallel with one being the supply line and the second being the discharge line. This will mean that as long as the 5/8" supply tubes to and from each of the heat exchanges are the same length, then the pressure drop in the equal flow manifold to all of the six air conditioners should result in the lowest pressure drop between the inlet and outlet of the equal flow manifold with minimum balancing required for each of the six water heat exchanges. Both equal flow manifolds will need to be taken across the transom from one hull to the other. The through hole to supply the pump will be in one hull with the return manifold pipe discharging above the water line from the other hull. A limiting flow valve just before the discharge hole can be used to control the maximum needed water flow through the manifold. This arrangement also means that the pressure drop across the heat exchanger connection pipe work should be the same for each heat exchangers if they are all identical. That means that two isolating valves are required for each heat exchanger with a means to finely balance the flow through each water heat exchanger if required.
    This means that the friction head loss should be minimal through the equal flow manifold thereby reducing the power need to circulate the water through the water heat exchanges.
    The temperature difference across each of the water heat exchanges can be kept relatively small, depending on the flow of the water through each, so that the equal flow manifold does not add energy to the boat.
    Just a few ideas. A bit like designing an electrical circuit. The energy equations are basically the same for volume flow and friction head loss as that for an electrical DC circuit. I know that you understand that concept.
    The system design may be much easier to solve problems that what you showed on previous videos.

    It’s not just head pressure, it only takes .434psi to lift water one foot of elevation. I think the problem is friction loss in the lines. The smaller the diameter the line the greater the friction loss. The longer the line the greater the friction loss

    Could you have just run a bilge pump up to the units? What about 2 or 3 in series to help with the lift?

    Your higher flow rate will be seriously impacted by your hose diameter & any fittings in the line all the way to the discharge through-hull, the biggest hoses you can fit and no pipe fittings in them to get maximum flow at least pressure. Could you replumb the lines in 3/4 pex. Are your discharge valves full diameter valves. Y fittings will give better flow than T fittings.

    Any chance to relocate the self contained DC units so that they are lower? You are in a rebuild... you might have to give up some convenient storage but it could be an option instead of the sea chest.

    So, quick question: If anything goes wrong on the manifold while the boat is unattended but AirCon is on, how long does it take for this pump to sink the boat?

      Agreed but we couldn’t find a pump at that price range that could run even one of the salon units. None of the pumps were capable of producing enough volume at that height.

      Apologies, I was refering to the AC unis they were advertised at $500 per unit, when I approached HW direct they wanted over $1500 per unit. However, I have since found another supplier on AB that is wants $800 per 48V unit, not sure of the qualifty butt the power consumtpion is 850 watts for 12,000 BTU, so I might proceed with this less expensive unit. @@SailingDauntless

    The sad thing about solar the amount of resorces like dead dinosaur juice it takes to mine and collect the litium for the batteries you are using and the environmental damage is a lot greater then just using the fuel to produce the cool air so you can live the lifestyle youve chosen. Theres a trade off but is staying cool really worth the amount of damage being done to the environment and the people who must live in the areas that are polluted with the after effects of mining the lithium or the components to build the solar panels and all the resources dino juice to produce the plastics that these components are made from. We dont see the damge caused by this new industry but just because we dont see it or have to deal with the pollution doesnt mean its not happening to other people or the planet. Sorry but thats the reality of using lithium and going solar.

      There is also an array of similiar drawbacks to using ac-based systems, generator-powered systems, or the original glycol set-up. Saying "do without air-con" will immediately lower credibility to zero. I'm a sailor without air-con at all, and there are large portions of each year when I can't even be in the same geographic region with my boat. There are pluses and minuses to every decision. A live-aboard in Florida has to have refrigerated ac. Period.

      You can not recycle dino juice, lithium batteries last for many years & 95%+ of their content can be recycled. Read some real statements on lithium batteries and NOT FUD spread by oil gas & legacy automotive companies. Fact oil refineries use vastly more Cobalt than battery manufacturers and it is lost in the process.
