Honestly, even without the synth engine this would be a killer universal controller for DAW based soft synths.
Yes, that's what I was thinking, interesting about the drone industry helping make the motors more affordable, hopefully affordable versions of what you mentioned are not that far off
Pffff soft synths
@@SourDiesel69 Well, have some pity for us poor people who live in small apartments, lol!
Not really because almost ALL softsynths do not send back MIDI info when changing presets.
@@aurexlive Oh, I didn't realize that, could you have a plugin that monitors the positions of the softsynth's knobs and converts that into MIDI? (I'm obviously not an engineer)
I fucking love when a company goes and makes what I've been thinking bout for years. A hackable Raspberry Pi based controller device with a built in synth. Awesome to see!
Wow, this is cooler than I expected, and sounds sweet. Seeing physical knobs moving makes it look alive, diggin' the 70's Sci Fi aesthetic too.
No doubt sounds great too!
This is the most unique synth at NAMM so far
Needs wooden end cheeks....lol
Love how modest he presents this thing, considering what a gamechanger it probably is!
such a cool synth
Good to see team Australia standing out in NAMM. More than happy to support you guys.
This might be the first Kickstarter I participate in, this synth is ticking boxes I hadn't even thought of. Thanks for the coverage, Sonicstate.
I think this is a brilliant idea! Im surprised how fast the pots change on presents! Genius!
Yep, it’s an excellent idea and looks fantastic. This is going to be a very expensive synth!
@@leftmono1016 yes out my budget but still appreciate the genius!
drone tek!
Big thumbs up, Melbourne Instruments coming out of the gate swinging, F yeah.
Woww, genius product
I hope motorized knobs becomes a standard in synths eventually
Seriously. Imagine having an option to have an LFO actually turn a knob (obviously only up to a certain speed, perhaps a special limited LFO would be needed) where you can add friction with your finger to change the rate organically. Probably won't happen but it's a weird synth fantasy of mine; knobs that you can play with like motorized jog wheels.
@@mikeexits it's called monome arc
hope the melbournians get a patent for it
@@blimolhm2790 patent for what ? off the shelf motorized encoders ? If anyone would get one it would be the company making the encoders, but it's like 20 companies making them and motorized pots are a standard on hifi amps for the last two decades.
So proud to see a synth come out of Melbourne and a very innovative one at that. Hybrid with morphing is impressive even without counting the motorized encoders and as concertmate mg-1 owner I appreciate adding the "bell" function to this. So cool!
😂 i dont now the price yet mate, why they dont reveal?????????? but if i can afford't i will buy it for sure. I was waiting for this..
Yeah what a coup, this reminds me of the ASM module which I had and sold. It just sounded flat and lifeless, was not engaging to use, whereas this seems to tick all the boxes.
I wonder if you can change switches? Blue, Red, Brown anyone?
Pretty sure these are cherries, nothing better than some tactile feedback.
You could probably color code for one's own taste, would be great if they're changable.
@@dankeplace yeah mate low profile kailh switches :)
@@drofdissonance what is better is that you don't get charged an excess for the keys, as they're going to be universal fit from all manufacturers.
This is a very well-thought-out device.
@@dankeplace 👃
Wow this this is incredible! The crazy mechanical encoder thing is one thing, but the re are some really cool analog/digital hybridisations that make it stand out on that level too. Very proud to be Australian right now. :P
Did you win Jeremy? I think you legit did....congrats if so.
@@EarlyMist I'm too scared to find out lol. This feels scammy af.
Really glad to see my man Jermaine keeping himself busy after Flight of rhe Conchords. 👊
That morphing trick is really powerful as well. So good to see a company pushing the technology to the next level. This sounds like an extremely powerful and flexible synthesizer
This synth looks like a dream to program. Would have liked to see more of the features he was describing as well as more of the filter but it's likely not ready for a full demo, looking forward to seeing Nick cover this one in depth.
You should stick to trashing companies rather than sucking up to ones that you will eventually trash in your live streams.
@@dankeplace oh you're a fan? Thanks for the promo ❤️
@@kiko1935 might want to relax your ego a little, you know as much about synths in general as your little buddy John does, does a Juno X sound better than a VA?
Why does he promote the Cobalt 8X as a brilliant WaveTable synth?
As you were.
@@dankeplace Oh no, quite the contrary, I defer to your expert knowledge. After all, your bleepy bloopy musical scores on your channel are definitely NOT monotonous and bland. Plus you're totally NOT a bitter butthurt nothing; very wise and mature. Namaste!
@@kiko1935 sure ok if you say so. Thanks for stopping by my channel, I guess I must feel privileged.
As for the bleeps and bloops, that's John's territory, you know this as you're the one encouraging him to behave the way he does.
Why would I be bitter? Are you projecting John's whole demeanour towards everyone on CZcams?
You two are two peas in a pod, just remember whom you're engaging and why, oh wait, we all know why...
As you were little one.
WIOW
Kudos you really went through with this, AND made a stunning instrument too
I think everybody was dreaming up something similar with the knobs
Way cool! 😎👍
The best part is, there is even room for improvement with this knob concept. The deluge manages quite well using a shared encoder for eight values (x2), by using lights, as do most mixers. Adding a (meaningful) activity indicator gets you a little bit more functionality over these motorized knobs, with just a slight bit more confusion risk. There's no reason these two approaches couldn't learn from each other.
This sounds so much better than I expected. Great work
Amazing synth, awesome dude. Absolute joy to see!!!
Well done 👍🏼 ..I had a play on it just before it went off to NAMM.. love that thing, was a lot of fun 'mashing patches' - sounds amazing👌🏼
this is the most interesting synth i have seen and heard in a long time - very promising - wow.
This is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. Go Melbourne! Hopefully I can get a place in line for the first run!
Beautiful looking synth, as well!
I've been looking at motorised motors for a project and other bits of tech and I'm like soooo blown away by the developments that have been made over the past few years. I''ve been thinking about something like this for years too (as I'm sure we all have) and I'm so glad it's finally being done.
This looks really cool! Love the innovation on this one

Fantastic job Melbourne Instrument !!! This is amazing and so new !
Damn, that is quite tasty. The motorised knobs are an amazing idea, loved the super quick modulation routing and very chuffed about the 12 voices (and the potential for users to hack or expand it). Some very original thinking! Lovely.
Sounds good and the cool factor is amazing. Extra motivation to create new sounds and also keep tweaking them. 🔥🔥🔥
Looks and sounds really fantastic! Those motorized encoder seems like such a great solution!!
Holy shit yes I’ve literally fantasized about this. THANK YOU
That sound is mighty sweet. The raw tone is killer!
Finally, something interesting. Very awesome. I will watch your career with great interest.
Great idea to use motorised knobs, I really like it :)
Wonderful sounding, fantastic new design architecture, retro yet modern look.
Boom! I want one ASAP…
Impressive for a first synth! Actual new hardware innovation right out of the gate.
Holy cow. That is nicely done.
Looks and sounds great. Nice warmth and great fizziness on those brassy tones
Truly something new. Bravo!
Ive always thought it would be such a cool thing to motorize encoders so its so cool to see someone finally doing it!!
Yep, been in my thoughts for a few years. The Hi-fi I had 30 years ago had a motorised volume control, granted not as speedy as these. It’d be cool to have say filter controls slowly rotating + & - and at different rates. Possibilities are endless.
Holy crap this is exactly what synths have needed the entire time.....that morph knob is a fantastic idea
Kudos for trying to modernize a pot, very interesting!
I hope others follow along and maybe this could be standard for both synths and controllers in 2030.
That's awesome. Not having the knobs where they're supposed to be always frustrates me when recalling patches. Sounds good, and I like the nice big keyboard-style buttons too.
I can’t see How the motorisation of the pots affect the final sound.
I like the modification function used to adjust the triangular waveform using ramping.
The modulation abilities of this device are impressive.
Compact and powerful - great stuff from Melbourne
Looks amazing!
game changer! thanks for doing this ❤️
Just what I was talking about for the past few years. This will be a revolution in the synth industry.
Brillant !
Really ! Love it
Awesome!! Woo, great to see something sick coming out of my city!
When I heard about it I thought that the motorized knobs were gimmicky. But no, this is a DREAM to program for sure! Loved the idea for modulation routing!
amazing design and idea !!! just wow... cannot wait the first batch ! 🤩
Gotta love gear capable of evolving thanks to open source and with those knobs ohhhh so cool!
This looks great. A physical response, none menu diving modulator, motorized, programmable, polysynth! Count me in. 👍🏻
Bloody brilliant! 👍👏
This is insane. One of the best things I've seen come out of NAMM this year.
In the Synth world, I sooo agree .
And why wouldnt I agree , having the same initials? ;)
The genius of motorised pots is inspired!
Gets round stepping.
Patch morphing looks fun
Love this. It solves almost all of my problems. Would fit nice mounted at my MIDI keyboard too.
Nice design, love the cherry keys !
Impressive, innovative and clever solution.
I've been waiting for this tech for ever. Now I want rotary knobs with variable resistance when it comes to the feeling of the knob. Or endless rotaries where you can set the start and end stop through software. This opens so much posibilities!
The start and end stop through software idea is very interesting.
Somebody here saying he used it a month ago and its actually does all that. resistance, start, stop, endless and stepping!!
@@untml Oh my oh my!! Awesome
This is the one I've had my eye on! Australia ay? Fruity.
Looks, sounds and behaves beautiful.
This is dope , especially connected to the novation SL with its 8 sequencers for hardware or vst over usb. The motorized knob system is something we have wanted to see for so long and those cheeky boys from Melbourne figured it out
What a beauty, hopefully they integrate a few more LFOs but definitely one on my list!
VERY interesting and a cool idea. Have to see the Kickstarter price but even more, Id need to hear i few good preset patches to imagine how Id work with it. Thanks Edd!
Bloody hell, such tech coming out of my home city, Melbs!
Been wanting this forever
That's GENIUS!!! I want one.
Thought I was hearing some hyperbole in the first minute, changed my mind pretty quick. This synth is great so far.
$3,500 USD. Never mind.
That's my spiritual brother from another mother. And great job on the design of this synth.
Super cool!
love it! what a cool idea.
Kinda weird comparison, but it's like the automated height adjustable seat posts in mountain biking. Such a small advancement you think at first, and 20 years hindsight later, it's seen as one of THE most impactful revolutions in riding. For safety and comfort. And indeed, just think of synth performances... safety and comfort.
Very convincing piece of kit, probably outside of my price range. What I would love to see on this is P-locking, automation recording or whatever people call it...
melbourne represent! this is super cool tech
Pretty neat trick with that encoder recall.
Love the Sontec style knobs they used
Seems super cool! Glad to see Sonicstate is here to give me my dose of namm gas!
Genius, this is the future of saving presets on euroracks!
Could be quite a bulky solution. I guess such process for modular will take 5 years to have a first wave of adoption.
As Mutable is out of business now, I guess Xaoc is only one who will dare and have capacity to do it in like next 3 years.
Good to see an Aussie throwing themselves into a huge pool of competition. Hopefully you do well Dan. I'll be keeping an eye on this product for sure. Well done mate \m/
Easy for me to say but that should almost be a standard feature. Interesting to see the drone industry made it possible cost wise, looks awesome!
finally... proper digital control of analog oscillators.
Holy shit, this is probably THE performance synth of the future.
The fact that you can switch patches and directly begin changing them is an absolute gamechanger when it comes to live playing.
It doesn‘t sound crazy special in any way, but it sounds GOOD and especially in a live mix nobody can tell this apart from a Pro5 or anything.
Sickness, count me in.
Wonderful!!
very innovative
been craving this for so long......
An amazing aussie innovation - love this.
Love it
I’m impress! This seems like a fantastic instrument. I wonder if you can “record and play” pot mouvements in a patch?
wow, this is genius!
Pretty dope
they should make a large matrix MIDI controller with these knobs for DAW work! awesome!
Good god, I always wondered WHEN someone would come around to this!!! The only real time knob state solution until this was the rotary encoder with an LED ring. But this is the ultimate concept. As far as that goes. But what a FRUSTRATING demonstration, lol. Almost entirely a verbal description. The machine was all fired up right in front of him and he barely played anything! It must really be in the first stages of programming. Looking forward to a proper demo soon!
I like it ....I think.. Looks good
That is one cool looking thing.
Nicee! Love it!
Awesome
WOW! motorized pots! Awesome!!!
(I am not being sarcastic, this looks like the next big thing and I wonder why it wasn't invented earlier, since motorized faders have been a thing for a while)
I keep asking myself, "Why do I find this instrument so beautiful?" I can't say why but I love the look (and the sound) of it.
In part, black, orange and white are a classic and proven trio color scheme. :)
@@LangleyNA It is, also the knob caps and the cheery keys looks really nice
Its not rainbow coloured like a lot of other gear
awesome
WoW! Just wait, sure Behringer will be cloning this technology before this synth gets released ;) Very cool!
The already have, it’s called the El Niño.! 😂
And this is why I love my nord lead 3
