The fact that 16 out of these 22 finals contain at least one of the Williams sisters just highlights how much they dominated the past 2 decades
out of the 20 matches from 2000-2019, they won 12 of them and made 20 finals. only four matches didn't have at least one sister competing. insane record.
The Williams’ sisters would be hall of famers just from their Wimbledon results. Simply amazing. They literally dominated for a decade and then some.

The multiple Grand Slam winners are at that time, as Henin, Clijsters, Sharapova, Davenport, Capriati, Hingis, Mauresmo, Dementieva among so many others who were always there and made the circuit ever more difficult for the Williams sisters. Even so, they have always been superior with their agility and power on the court.

technically Serena also made 4 consecutive finals. In 2017 she didn't play cuz she had her baby.

Aside from Venus/Serena themselves, ONLY Sharapova, Muguruza, Kerber, and Halep have beat a Williams Sister in a Wimbledon Final. Collectively, Venus (5) and Serena (7) hold 12/22 (55%) of the Wimbledon titles of the last 23 years. DOMINANCE!

During Venus's final match v Davenport in 2005 I was flying across the Atlantic. I started watching the match in the departure lounge at Heathrow. During the flight the pilot came on the PA system to inform us that Venus had won Wimbledon. I always think of that whenever I watch a Venus Williams match.

I think it's just different between casual viewers and big tennis fans. I can't count how many casual viewers i know who look up to serena because she simply transcends the sport. Some people have never watched her but love her anyway lol, her story alone to becoming a GOAT is like a fairytale. She's in a lot of people's/articles' top 10 athletes ever (which I dont disagree with to be honest), I see her in those lists more often than any other woman athlete. So globally she gets enough love, it's just big tennis fans have watched her dominate for decades now, so they'll naturally root for the underdog. She's also an exciting but sometimes polarising character.
Really? During her retirement period I saw the word GOAT being used a million times 😅. And I think their movie has given them even more support

~75% of Wimbledon finals this millennia have featured a Williams sister. Not to mention all those finals they played against each other! Absolutely incredible players. The greatest!
Special mentions: Shoutout to seeing former champions in the audience applauding new champions like when Marion Bartoli won and Mauresmo was there and when Bartoli was at Petra Kvitova's second Wimbledon title. The Legends Navratilova and Billie Jean King present at many Wimbledon championships.

Since 2000, only six Ladies' Singles finals at Wimbledon have not included the Williams sisters. They were in 9 out of 10 finals in the 2000s and 7 out of 10 in the 2010s. So impressive!

when Serena lost in 04 against Maria and instead of waiting at the net she went over to hug her - pure class and sportsmanship because she must've obviously been disappointed but found it within her to make Maria feel like the Champion.

In 2007 Marion beat the number 1 and number 3 seeds to make the Wimbledon final. That isn't lucky. She fully deserved to be in that final. 2013 was fortunate in that most of the big players lost before the quarter finals. Radwanska who she had never beaten choked her semi final and Lisicki didn't turn up for the final but in 2011 Marion also beat Kvitova to win Eastbourne and Knocked Serena out of Wimbledon.

Simona's victory was simply stunning! Still remember the scenes in which Serena usually takes the net to put tremendous pressure on the other side as one of her winning formula, but she was "hesitant" to do so. Simona's foot speed & lightening passing shots made her think twice! Shocked & thrilled! Remember, no one was able to intimidate her?
Serena got to FOUR finals after returning to the game in 2018, like 9 months after giving birth. ASTONISHING. I think her confidence and comfort were hindrances, but getting deep in GS's close to 40 and after giving birth is just incredible to me. THE WOMAN IS SIMPLY THE GOAT.

Yep, I think with just her records alone, Serena would probably be the women's GOAT anyway. But it's her story from Compton to the open era record that makes her transcend the sport. One of the best athletes in my opinion. She and novak don't have the traditional tennis background at all, so credit to them for that
