'60s and '70s: throw racquet in the air, jump over the net
'80s and '90s: raise both arms in the air, maybe sink to your knees
'00s and '10s: fall onto the court either on your knees or your back

EXACTLY! When did winning a championship become so debilitating that the Champions couldn't even stay on their feet? Lame.

Love the domination of Federer and the Williams Sisters, they own Wimbledon in the 21st century
Trish Prescott Martina retired from singles play in 1994, but returned in the 2000's, and played the French and Wimbledon in 2004, won her last Wimbledon title in 2006. Some doesn't know the sport of tennis...but yes she did win the majority of her titles in before the 2000's, so I stand corrected.
People don't want to give certain people credit so they travel back in time. Lmao
Yes Williams and Federer really own Wimbledon in 21st century. I love them. And I hope Venus can do well at this year's Wimbledon. Hope she is in great health.
@@apaarmaheshwari8673 rip venus
@@georgetaylor5208 I didn't see that coming. But what I was happy about is that she was serving good and it is her movement which obviously can't be as good as that teen, cost her the match.
Great music changed for each decades, although, names of each winners with years would have been nice.
a decade of "game, set, match Miss Williams"
😅😅
What?? Honestly. Your joking right? Or jealousy?
12 titles between the two of them
nobody wants to hear about them any more just like the obozos.
Also 90s was a decade of Game, set, match Ms Graf
Can't be sure, but i think he's done it.
Its crazy how tennis game has changed through the years. Players used to volley for every point. LoL
Started on that 2002 final between Hewitt and Nalbandian
Totally
Because it was generally the best tactic on grass at the time, certainly when serving. The Luxilon revolution of the early 2000s changed that, by allowing baseliners to impart far more topspin to their shots, and thus to hit passing shots with much greater velocity that would dip and stay in the court. That made it MUCH easier to pass a player at the net, so serve-volley became a much riskier tactic (something of a niche tactic to unsettle an opponent).
After winning, they threw up their rackets more back then too lol
Williams Sisters, Roger, Rafa, Nole, Andy .. i’ll miss them all 😭😭😭
When throwing the racket and jumping the net was IN
I love the evolution of Graf’s Wimbledon finals between 1987-1989. The ball slaps the top of the net and she loses in 87, the ball bounces on the net as she hits her backhand winner on Championship point in 88, then she smokes an ace down the line on Championship point in 89.
Seeing the loss of Roddick that last wimbledon final, I felt a pit in my stomach.
I was fan od AROD and Coria, this wimbledon and Roland Garros final for Coria are the 2 most painful matches ever for me.
Absolutely brutal match.
Like how Muguruza was the only one to win by challenge
Matthias Roger Lee fed in ao
Dhodhyz Francois Spencer Beach for Wimbledon I mean
Dhodhyz Francois Spencer Beach Fed won on challenge twice lol
The great Steffi!
1988 - return winner
1989 - ace
1991 - return winner
1992 - ace
1996 - service winner

@@maleehaarif9092 ?????? 😂
For the last 17 years it has been mostly Williams winning the ladies championship. 12 times! WOW!
and another amazing fact is that one of the Williams Sisters was in every final from 2000 to 2017 except for 2006,2011 2013 and 2014
Still, Navratilova is the most dominant. 9! 9 Championships! Count 'em.
Not to mention that Navratilova and Graf had much stronger opposition during their time than the Williams sisters. They're good players, but they also benefited a lot from a lack of talent on the WTA tour during their careers.
Lone Star when tennis wasnt that known yet :)))
Landscope 360 Navratilova is no match to either one of these williams. that's a FACT!
Martina was quite probably the most dominant grass player of all time.
Lol everyone throw racket in the air
It started to get really stupid a minute or two into the video.
Now everyone falls on the grass with arms extended
Federer is God of wimbledon. 8 titles and 12 finals over 16 years. Absolutely legendary.

Gentlemens of the Decades:
-1960s: Rod Laver 4 titles
-1970s: Bjorn Borg 4 titles
-1980s: John McEnroe/Boris Becker 3 titles
-1990s: Pete Sampras 6 titles
-2000s: Roger Federer 6 titles
-2010s: Novak Djokovic 5 titles
2020's : Novak Djokovic 2 titles
@@Punkster556 probably more coming as well, little to no one to challenge him anymore for the next 2-3 years :(
Just for fun/ contrast, heres the biggest anomalies per decade:
1:48 1975 Huge upset Ashe over heavy favorite Connors ( Some say Connors was injured, some say Ashe's choppy style was too frustrating for Connors)
Edit: also 1973 1:23 Many top pros boycotted Wimbledon that year for the ITF barring Yugoslavian Nikola Pilic from competing after his refusal to play in a Davis cup match months earlier (was a very important & prestigious part of the tour back then) so Kodes winning it kind of has an asterisk, as prior recent Champs like Smith and Newcombe didn't compete
4:33 In 1987 Becker (won the 2 prior years) was taken out by a basically complete nobody early on, Pat Cash hampered by injuries in his career but too strong that day to win his sole grand slam & deny Lendl what would be perhaps his best chance to win wimbledon
5:33 Michael Stich winning his sole grand slam, unusual that he took out both Edberg and Becker (the finalists of the prior 3 years) 6:54 Kraijcek winning in the middle of the Sampras reign (defeated Sampras in the QF) for his only slam win too, also an anomaly & by far the longest rally on a men's championship point to date
00s: 8:00 2001 Ivanisevic winning wimbledon as a Wildcard, nobody remotely seemed to expect him in the twilight of his career to make a deep run let alone win (of course Sampras was famously taken out by young Federer)
8:11 2002 Hewitt winning wimbledon. Still hard to believe in a way Hewitt of all people won it and Roddick never did. The grass was slowed down starting that year by changing the grass seed composition/ arguably to encourage longer rallies and better viewership. Regardless kind of weird transition phase at the top of the tour (Johanson a fairly average pro upsetting/ defeating Safin to win a slam also in 02 also unusual and of course in 04 pre Nadal the Coria choke at roland garros also comes to mind) & of course after that nobody outside the big 4 until Alcaraz in 2023 would win wimbledon on the men's side
2010s: Hard to decide but I guess either 12:27 2016 Murray winning wimbledon again (arguably his peak year, or at least other members of the big 4 not playing as great that year. Usually tough for him to break past all of them, only slam he won more than once) or 2019 (happened after this video) very unusual for Federer to lose a slam final after having championship points, but not the first time Djokovic came back match point down vs Federer, happened twice at the us open in early 2010s
Can't believe I'm saying This but I miss Murray.
Wish the Masha-Murray mixed happened.
@@alonglongkumer7691 ooh please they are complete opposites and Masha has injury anyway.
me too
The men's game was way more interesting when Murray (and Wawrinka) were regular spoilers, not QUITE as good as the Big Three but very much capable of beating any of them on a good day. In fact, from 2012 through 2014, Murray and Djokovic were the most dominant players in the ATP, and again in 2016. It's such a shame that Murray's body gave out right when he was at his peak.
some of the early ones looked like 2 lovers meeting after a long time.
So refreshing to see such a video which doesn't use tiresome and epic "trailer" music.
100%
Not a brit and got teary on Murray's first win. What a roar from the crowd. Fed's last one was a tear jerker too.
That 1995 final between Graf and vicario as well as 2008 Nadal and Federer were monumental
Sanchez, not Vicario.
I had forgotten that Novotna DID get back and win it, that was very heartwarming. Her loss was so brutal to watch. Come to think of it, it's highly reminiscent of the path of Ivanisevic on the men's side. They were both great stories.
Out of 20yrs a williams won 12times. Incredible
serena and venus :)
No
Still bummed Roddick didn't make it.
The match points Andy Roddick participated in still sting.
Yeah as soon as I saw the 09 final I just felt bad for him.
Right in the feels.
I feel like I get stung by a bee every time I see that 09 match point.
Lol... Having to lose to a mug like Floperer must hurt a little.

The tennis monkey is cute... but I wouldn't say I worship him.
Old days they running to the net and jumping over it to hug the opponent
Now they throw the racket and lying down suddenly as they are dead 😂😂😂
Omg the commentator with his repetitive "that's it/he's done it/she's done it" after MPs is driving me crazy.
Hai Tran OMG me too
0:00 --> 1960s
0:37 --> 1970s
2:49 --> 1980s
5:08 --> 1990s
7:43 --> 2000s
10:08 --> 2010s
Players were celebrating a lot differently 3 to 4 decades ago.
lot less dramatic
Amazing video, thank you for compiling history into 13sh minutes!!
100%
LOL the 90's comes along and Graf on like every women's highlight :) I've only been watching WTA for a couple years (new fan) and I'm looking forward to watching some Steffi Graf! :)
Excellent video, brought back so many memories. Borg in '76 was my first.
That Women’s 2005 final. ❤️ Miss Venus Ebony Starr Williams ❤️. Losing that 2017 final was tough to watch though
this is very good video! Nice work!!
I watched the whole thing in full screen. Days it all really. I'm normally a small screen scroller. This video had my full concentration. There has been some amazing, historic games at that legendary tournament.
So good to see the Williams
This was Venus' event for so long and then it became Serena's, but as they've both said "Team Williams" lol. I'd like to see V win it 1 last time (and really was hoping it would have been last year, but Garbine was just too good). OMG Bartoli! What a great win for her, it was a real "finally" moment! Yes Roddick and Federer, best Wimbledon final ever. Reminds me of that long Roddick El Yinoui (Im bad with that name sorry) match at the AO.
Hopefully....
1) Venus.
2) Serena (what a comeback it would be).
3) Maria Sharapova (".......")
4) Vikka Azarenka (".....").
Most Likely....
1) Halep.
2) Muguruza.
3) Henin will come back for fun and just win it in a fluke lol.
But still its Navratilova's
Incredible footage!!
Phenomenal video, thanks 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What an upload!
Several beautiful one hand backhand slices
Thanks. Brilliant!
Venus & Serena- The Wimbledon Queens
This just shows how thankful we should be that Television picture quality has improved.
So many great points. It means so much to be a champion.
Some amazing champions there....but Federer is the grass court King for me! Federer makes it look so effortless, that’s what is so beautiful about his game!
I’m a Rafa fan, but when i saw Roger’s wins... almost cried!!!
If only that era could come back...now Roger's time is almost up (even if he plays another two years) and who knows when Rafa's body will finally give up. And afterwards? What will be left in men's tennis?
Roger vs Rafa was the greatest series of finals ever
I think Roger fakes his tears... man's got no emotions
rarely people here acknowledge the greatness of Pete Sampras. Although Federer has won one more, for me he is the real King on Grass. He won all his finals at Wimbledon and played way less matches (63-7, 90%) out there than Federer (101-13 89%). On womens side, clearly Steffi Graf has dominated in her career, what a player she was
What about Navratilova.. She will and always remain the queen of grass... she had a strike through for 9
Sampras was a great player, but the 90s was a time when serve was so heavily dominant at Wimbledon, and Sampras had the best serve in the world.
MARTINA NAVRATILOVA IS KING !!! 9 TITLES AND DOUBLES WINS...
Great this! Good idea for a montage!
I like how they used to run towards each other at the end of the match that's so funny.
so many federer and serena... which is great! and so many big fours!
Shoty loves Stanimal big three
Martina Navratilova, need I say more. The queen of Wimbledon....
The Best Grand Slam
People tend to forget that McEnroe played against Connors in as many Wimbledon finals as he played against Borg. In both cases his record was 1-1.
It's like watching the Martina Navratilova Show. 9 titles and 12 finals Jesus!
Favourite tennis video
I do wish that they had the exact year and player names for each clip
Love to see Fed close this with an Ace! Sheer joy.
What a glorious Slam! 🎾❤
100 Pursuit of Greatness !
I don't know why I enjoyed this video so much
And the queen saw it all!
I cry when Roger Federer cries.
"S/he's done it." Get a new call, good lord.

Love the urgency to shake the opponents hand in the old days after thrashing them
Well, the pandemic covid allows some of us to get caught up on tennis matches not seen from decades gone by. Just look at those wooden rackets back in the day! Quite amazing what shots could be made with them! Thanks for putting this vid on youtube. :)

Bring back celebrations - throwing the racket in the air, and jumping over the net.
Had to stop and watching before 2019
