    The timing of this interview is crazy as I had a major panic attack on Wednesday and it forced me to quit a job I just started on Monday. Everything Robin said about mental health and the meaning in the hockey world of OCD being superstition and ADHD is anxiety to make every shot in a real game--amazing. It put a quick smile on my face and made me want to comment. I have been a fan of this sport since '87 (shout out from Pittsburgh to 2 former beauties like Biz and Whit that I had to pleasure to watch in-person many times) and its so refreshing to hear professionals like Robin (and Drouin) make it ok to admit you have a problem. I am starting (again unfortunately) that long road to get help again but this interview is helping me feel a little better. I can honestly say now Robin is my inspiration going forward--Thanks!

    26:16 i think, regardless of whether you have a national healthcare system like Canada, or a private system like in the US, there's certainly always going to be instances, where a normal pleb will be told, not "you can't have operation x", or "you have to have operation y", but rather "we don't cover this operation" by their insurer. even in Canada, there's yearly news reports, of [such and such] experimental procedure being trialled for [some rare disease or disorder], but the patient can't get it cause it's not covered, or "its experimental". the semantics of the situations may differ, employer vs insurer, but the end result is the same. Ppl's access to procedures with the highest chance of success/lowest chance of complications, is restricted by entities that we wish had a fiduciary duty towards the patient, but clearly don't.

    • @alimccallum6819
      @alimccallum6819 Před 2 lety

      For rare diseases in Canada the issue with accessing trials is gov health care won't cover it, the hospital's won't do it, and even if it's a pill you still need regular following for it so it's super rare that new treatments are seen here. But Canada's health care system is just kinda shit for chronic illnesses especially rarer or more complex ones, I'd take this over having to pay an insane amount like in the US but we do have crazy waiting lists.

    Robin is right about so many things. When corportations talk about mental health, it is in a politically correct way, but when you struggle for real, it's easy to the corps to push these individuals on the sidelines. Humans are competitive by nature, just like Hockey is, and every weakness people see, they try to hurt you in that weak spot. The way politicians are handling this pandemic is increasing massively mental health issues, which Big Pharma loves as they can prescribe more meds and profit off it more than ever. Who wants to cure people when you can profit off them endlessly... just ask doctors... Well, doctors are not the problem, but the people in charge over them, who are supposed to help with "health" issues, but many people become doctors to cash in and don't give a F about people, to be honest. Doctors belittle psychiatrist as being some caring mom or so. With all the censorship going on, since a little before this collective fear episode, how do you get the word across that people need help, when social media is clearing up what doesn't suit the purpose of the elite billionaires leading this planet. Sickening, but we can only do so much in that super technological and politically correct world. (facepalm). Way to go Robin for what you do is not easy, especially as a public figure.

    1:44:00 Tell you the largest issue in sports. Lehner said, "they make investments in "us" (players)."
    Yes, this is true. However, let me tell you how Ownership of a Major League Sports team works on the financial end. I'm an Accountant. Preface: Broad speak as we are talking different accounting standards for different countries (CAD/US).
    Players are considers "assets" on books, as they are required for the functionality of Owners operations. Therefore, due to most accounting practices the owner can treat the Player like a car. Someone purchases a car off the lot for 20K, drives it off, immediately worth 18K due to depreciation. Players have what is considered a "useful life" as all other assets due. Therefore, they never are really making an investment in the player, unless the value of the asset is worth fixing. It sounds cut throat because it is. You would put 2K into a car that is only worth 3 and will be non functioning in the next few years.
    Worst part about this is that, due to depreciation, large portion of player salary is a tax write off for Owners.

    Easy for the boys pin this on Buffalo when theyre not the ones stroking Jack the 10 mill cheque. Buffalo brass for sure has empathy and would like to ensure Jack lives a comfortable life after hockey, however, the issue at hand is in the now, and the 5 years remaining on his contract. Not hypotheticals after Jacks career. The player is a teams asset in which the team unfortunately has to act in the best interest of their investment as a business and not let emotions get in the way. Athletes who play professionally get to live the dream, but in the end of the day they are still a just a piece of meat for entertainment revenue.

    • @pjpredhomme7699
      @pjpredhomme7699 Před 2 lety

      right but your very detailed analysis has nothing to do with the facts. Hindsight is wonderful but when Eichel asked to be traded the owners took it very personal and evidently used the contractual option to punish Eichel for it. There was never a sound reason to deny his choice of surgery - certainly not performance wise . The fact that no NHL player had ever had it -is completely idiotic - at one point no NHL player had ever been scoped either - so does that mean no one can ? They go thru managers/ coaches like socks now - kevyn adams was very much in demand by the rest of the league as a GM right ? The pegulas are getting pretty close to Harold Ballard territory I was a huge Perreault fan growing up - so it is a shame to see Buffalo fans deserve a lot better

Last I checked hockey is a sport significantly dominated by blue-collar Canadians and has been for a long time, which is where most of the culture/history comes from. But social media may be changing that a little. But be careful of airing dirty laundry (ahem Evander)

That more than anything forced Vegas to that move- otherwise he would be there - if they can keep him -no team wants to trade away a guy like Fleury unless they have to .

      @@nfannig7847 I own a record store and have 30k LPs and 45s, you Smurf. On what planet do you think you can make statements with absolutely no factual groundings and get away with it? Pleb statement from another microbrain with loose lips.

    Should have traded Lehner instead of Fleury. Vegas is a Cup contender and Lehner is a unwanted distraction. Hopefully they can trade him before the trade deadline.

    Hopefully Robin gets back on his meds soon. His alien wife is also the most terrifying thing I have ever seen. None of what he is saying is news, everyone knows this goes on in all pro sports, but guess what, none of them would change a thing, girls when they want, cars, planes, clothes, rolexes, mansions, etc. Lehner is just making a complete fool of himself and he is a literal psycho if he thinks anything he is saying is unknown.

    If it's so bad plating a sport and making million lehner, why are you still playing? This guy complains more than a basketball player with a sprained ankle.
