    The mention of Joel Rechlicz reminds me of one of the funniest things I've seen in hockey. When Rechlicz was on the Islanders, I can't remember who the players was (might have been Craig Conroy but not sure), a smaller guy, not known for being physical or for fighting, hit one of the Islander players with a decent check, but nothing dirty, and the Islander guy fell down, and Rechlicz happened to be on the ice. Recker thinks, "It's my job tom stand up for my teammates" and he goes skating in a bee line for the other guy like he's gonna beat his head in, and the look on the other guy's face is "holy shit, what did I do?", and even the Islander players were shocked because you don't have Rechlicz in the line up to fight Craig Conroy, LOL. They were like "whoa, whoa, whoa!" I don't think Recker got on the ice for the rest of that game and don't think he played too many more games after that. He was a guy who didn't have his head screwed on right. But he'd make a great guest, if he hasn't already been on.

    • @AshtrayAnnie
      @AshtrayAnnie Před 2 lety +6

      It seemed like anytime the Isle got a winger who could play with Tavares, they'd just trade him after having a good season. They basically used Tavares as a "value inflater"....he made at least 3-4 wingers or centers into 60+ pt guys....the Islanders when then just trade them away thinking Tavares tapped them out. And once again...he would have no one to play with. It's no wonder why he decided to leave the organization. Moulson was a beauty.

    • @Krimbopulous
      @Krimbopulous Před 2 lety +1

      @@AshtrayAnnie That's not really how it went. While it's true that JT inflated the value of some of his linemates, the notion that he never had anyone to play with is false.
      JT had Lee, Bailey, Okposo, and Vanek during his tenure. There were some rough years in the beginning for sure, but Okposo, JT, Vanek was maybe the best line in the league while they were together.
      I don't actually fault Garth for letting Moulson walk. Despite being a fan-favorite he wasn't worth the money he was going to get on the market, and the Islanders knew that.
      Garth's (and the JT-era Islanders) main downfall was not acquiring depth at the right time and hanging onto coaches (who JT apparently loved) despite them being obviously bad.
      Trotz took an arguably worse roster than some of the ones JT had, got them to believe they were actually good, and got the most out of his players.
      Moulson was indeed a beauty though.

    • @AshtrayAnnie
      @AshtrayAnnie Před 2 lety

      @@Krimbopulous Sorry, I will disagree with you fully on this. Moulson meshed with Tavvy, same with Okposo. Any person who's played hockey knows that you're better over paying for chemistry than you are over-working drafts in order to find the right players to build chemistry again. There's a reason you see guys like Moulson and Okposo leave the Isles and then turn into nobodies. They had natural chemistry with Tavvy. That's just a fact. Similar to guys like Dupuis or Kunitz with Crosby. Notice how Pittsburgh over paid for those guys? And how it seemed to work. There's no argument here. It's just a fact.
      As for your argument about Trotz being left with less. That's COMPLETELY laughable. The depth that Isles team had when he came in was already extremely deep. Not to mention having a very solid top 4 D and 2 studs for a goalie tandem.
      My argument that I was making for Tavvy not having anyone to play with, is simply saying he didn't have anyone who could make HIM better. And when they had a team built the way they did when he was there. That first line needed to consistently have 2 100+pt guys to make the offense work. As, at the time they really didn't have much depth scoring past the players who either played with Tavvy on the 1st line or PP units....
      And I think it's fairly obvious this was one of the main reasons he left. The Isles were never willing to make a big move to bring in someone who could truly run a 2nd line at a similar pace to Tavvy, or trade for a winger that can put up 45+ goals. *Note, at the time, the way they were built they didn't have many options other than these to better the team without a rebuild. Barzal was the closest thing Tavvy ever seen to having a true #2 to generate offense. And the bridge was already burnt with management and Tavvy by the time he came into the picture.

    Matt Moulson is still beloved among Islanders fans. Was one of the few bright spots in the early 2010’s when the team was very bad. The Islanders couldn’t convince Thomas Vanek to sign long term in 2014 because of the impending move to Brooklyn. Vanek rejected a 7 year 50 million dollar extension from Garth Snow. Thomas Vanek and John Tavares were absolutely incredible together. It just sucks that Vanek only played 47 games with the Islanders before they traded him to Montreal.

      lol. maybe he's doing lines off the Stanley cup. Buffalo fans are the worst. No wonder he wanted to leave.

      @@Yimvision yeah it was us that were the worst, Mayb you should get out more, oh I’m sorry I don’t want to offend your prim and proper sensibilities, we know how this generation tends to get offended easy. Look fan or player, and I talked directly to peters (Andrew) who basically stated the same as the organization/fan/ players. Just because he went and won the cup with a loaded team, and a hot goaltender, doesn’t mean he changed. He always put up points, because that’s what divas do. They want the accolades, they want the money, they want coaches fired, I mean the list goes on. You’ll see when his career and the career of his team mates are over, then they’ll tell u what a disaster of a team player/ guy he was. I mean Matt murray won the cup with pittsburgh, and everyone probably including you were sucking on deez nutz, thinking he was the reason, how’s good ol Murray been since leaving. It’s a team that wins the cup bro. As a fan all I wanted was a team guy, who went to play(not for his own glory) but for the crest on his sweater. So if that makes us bad fans, and not band wagoners, then so be it. I notice how you were silent last year after he came and they missed the playoffs, and he gave the approving look to his goalie right after they were eliminated. And let’s not forget, you along with Tampa skirted the cap. I mean you were technically 12 mill over
