- On Episode 369 of Spittin’ Chiclets, the guys are joined by Keith Ballard. Keith joined us (1:09:35) during our Minnesota Trip to discuss his career, growing up in Minnesota, the infamous incident with Tomas Vokoun & tons more. But first, the guys open the show discussing all the recent NHL news, including the NHL all-star rosters, Kodak Black at the Panthers, and once again the Edmonton Oilers. The guys wrap up the show discussing whether or not Nick Lidstrom can still play in the NHL, the NFL, and some movie talk.

As a Wild fan, I was at Ballard's last pro game where Matt Martin ran him into the boards and Ballard hit his head on the glass or top of the dasher. It was terrifying to watch as it looked like he sustained a seizure on the ice. Seemed like it took forever for a trainer to get to him. Fans were yelling in the stands about getting him medical attention because it looked that bad. The Isles were completely skull dragging the Wild that night. After the Ballard injury, it lit a fire under the Wild's ass. They were being shutout during the 2nd period and I think they scored 4 or 5 unanswered goals the rest of the way to win the game. Even though Ballard wasn't with the Wild long, I'll always remember his calling card hip checks - best in the NHL. Always pissed me off that he'd completely upend a guy cleanly with a text book hip check and then some f'n goon would ambush him.
I worked in the kitchen at The Library Bar at that time. It was always nutz after a Gopher game. Especially when UND was in town!
R.A. was not the only one buckled on this interview...great interview though !!!

I've been attending Gophers hockey games since 1972 and Ballard is still one of my favorite players that ever played there.
I think it's pretty cool that Keith got to play for the Omaha Lancers as that's my hometown team

I agree with G, the tea is supreme. The first time I tripped with a buddy, we ended up walking around the apartment complex in a snowstorm in shorts and t-shirts and drinking a bottle of wine. Then, I had to work the penalty box that night for a high school team I was an assist coach on. Of course the one stoner on that team knew right away what was going on.

@@jayjayson9613 It's nearly impossible to make comparisons given one is an NHL GM and the other claims to be an NHL play by play announcer for ESPN. Certainly Ron Hextall's job is more important and he holds more responsibility. However, if you look at the performance of the two at their respective jobs, I would argue that Leah Hextall is far worse at her job than Ron Hextall is at his. Granted both aren't good, but Leah is "more worse." I'll say this: At least Ron Hextall could likely tell you the main pieces on the Wild and Duck's rosters. Leah can't. Unfortunately I've had to endure listening to her for some pro and college games since last season and she makes you want to become a teenage cutter. One game she completely intermingled the rosters for Minnesota and Anaheim. It wasn't just 3rd and 4th liners either. She had some of the Wild's best players on the Anaheim roster. Also had to listen to her repeatedly refer to Minnesota as the "Wilds" and Anaheim as the "Anaheim Wild." She's a complete f'n idiot.
