The 230s was great for its time and great to learn on and I’ve had mine for a long time now and just keep it around a beater fun fly heli. Really hoping OMP comes out with a M3!

    @jamieburkholder2392 Před rokem

    I think you did a good job on the comparison of the two helicopters.
    For those considering purchasing these two helicopters, here is my experience and opinion. I have owned a Blade 230S for 3 years and have rebuilt it several times. I have never owned an OMP M2. I have flown several and based on several of my friends experience I share my opinion here.
    The Blade 230S is a great entry level helicopter. It is stable and flys well. This makes it an excellent training helicopter for hovering, orientation work and flying basic maneuvers.
    The down side of the 230S is that the motor is weak when trying 3D maneuvers and does not hold up to crashes very well. The parts are also fairly expensive for being little plastic pieces. The tail boom which is an 8mm hollow tube of aluminum that is 257mm long almost always gets bent even in a light crash. A single replacement boom from Horizon costs around $14.
    The OMP M2 is a good 3D helicopter for its size. It can be used as a trainer but since it is very fast and has a lot more power than the 230S you have to tune it down.
    It is more robust when crashing than the 230S but not my much. All helicopters break when you crash them. The M2 is easier to work on than the 230S. This is because the M2 has carbon frames and uses bolts that are 1.5mm and 2mm hex heads. The 230S uses Phillips head screws and a plastic frame that strips out after a few repairs.
    I enjoyed learning to fly on the Blade 230S. If I were starting over today I would pick the OMP M2 or Goosky S2 to learn to fly RC helicopters.

    • @yzScott
      @yzScott Před 2 lety +1

      If you can fly a 230, you can fly anything. Bigger might be more expensive to fix, but also easier to fly. If you wait until you don't crash a 230 anymore, that day will never come. They are kind of made to crash.
      The 230 is fine for what it is, but I bet you'll get more/faster out the simulator for learning.
      When see people like @WestHobbiesRC doing 3D with micro/minis, understand how good he is. He's so good, I doubt he can really remember what it is like to struggle with the basics. Even so. I will bet anything he is more relaxed flying a 760 than a micro/mini. I have from XK110 to a TREX 800. Things I can confidently do with a big bird remain sketchy on anything smaller than 200.
      Anyway, having no clue where your progress is, don't let a micro/mini make you think you are worse than you are. They really are harder to fly.

    I've had several 230's and am considering the OMP M2 to help me hone in my flips, rolls, etc. The 230 was all over the place when practicing these. How tame can you tune the OMP but still have basic 3D performance? How does the OMP handle inverted? Can you tune these so they are docile and 3D capable?

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  Před 2 lety +3

      You can tune them as a team as you like. Even out of box settings is super locked in feeling. But you can go down on the servo speed inside the FBL all the way to one blink which would make it super docile and add expo to your liking but I say fly it first and see how you like it. I am actually in the process of uploading a flight comparison video that will be up within the hour so hopefully that will help you make your decision..

  • @l8tr597

    Ya but look at the boom, I just don’t like those skinny “stick” booms. And with canopy off, the OMP is put together like a piece of artwork, wires hidden, the color coded motor, and finally the IC boards, like ESC and FC up close look amazing and being stand alone just says quality. I am just coming back to RC but I know what I see, and by looking at little things like the connections and how they designed and engineered the M1 and M2 scream quality I don’t see in other makes. With that said, size for size OMP’s cost more for sure. I can’t wait to get my M1 flying so I can then add some of the alloy upgrades, weight isn’t an issue for me, I just want stability at this time, besides from what I gleaned from all you guys flying either one (M1 or M2) is they both are little ripsaws with plenty of power.
    Great video

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  Před 2 lety

      Yes 100% the OMP Heli‘s are built with quality. They are built for working on as well super simple to swap main frames out on the M1 unlike any other micro helicopter and it’s class. The 230 S was a great design in its day but super outdated. The M2/M1 are far superior in my opinion. The M2/M1 have tons and tons of power. The stability of both of them is incredible how rock solid they fly is unlike anything else I’ve flown and its size and even bigger. The M1/M to fly like a 600 sized helicopter. Pretty crazy! Nothing but the same old Sr frame with updated parts ..I tryed bolting my old Sr motor in, and it had more power .. shouldn't of been the case ..plus I got longer flight time

      It’s the exact same frame and motor. Putting the SR motor in should’ve done nothing as they are 100% identical. They are the same motor just a different color. Maybe your motor was bad and that’s why the SR motor you put in is giving you more power and longer flight times. If you want a lot more power put the 300 X motor in! It is a drop in fit you just have to run the wires on the outside. Best thing I ever did to my 230!
