    I started flying 12 years or so ago on a Phoenix simulator. I bought a align 450 and started flying. I sold everything 9 years ago and began traveling for work. The traveling is over now and I really want to start flying again. This M2 looks very interesting and I may just have to get one. Thanks for the video. You just got a new subscriber.

    Excellent review and very objective. I just went with the 230S for a lot of the reasons you mentioned, I'm 61 and it's my first heli. I struggle with orientation on even fixed wing, so the 230's size is a benefit. I also have lots of other Horizon stuff. The M2 is definitely the more modern performance aircraft. OMP does nice work, I was very impressed with the Bighorn plane I bought from them.

      Thank you! Nothing wrong with the 230 whatsoever. It is a great helicopter for the people who like the bigger size and who are just they are to fly around. If you’re never going to be a 3-D helicopter pilot or care about the precision in the performance the 230 is definitely the machine for you. Do I personally think it’s outdated old and needs a major update yes! But it’s still a good heli! You will enjoy the 230! Check back and let me know how you like it and how your doing. Use some bright vinyl on the tail boom and tail skid as it will help you with orientation big time!

    Love your End comments WestHobbiesRC. In the Photography world, the Moto is : "The Best Camera is the Camera you already have'. I don't own the M2, but do own the 230s.but after having endless trouble with the 230s Self levelling mode, and hence many unwanted Crashes, i believed it was a piece of crap. then i decided to delete the "Normal" mode (vis Digital Swtch option), and use it strictly as a FM1-2 Trainer only. I'm glad I kept it as such! now, after repeated trial flights with my smaller Nano S3 and 150s, I have complete confidence flying the 230s without any Normal mode to rely on. It also crashes well. Appreciate your Videos / advice WestHobbiesRC. PS: i have bought myself a Blade 360 3s Fusion, and SAB 420 Raw DD for Future step ups, when I can fly the 230s in most essential orientations

      Thank you very much! When I started the channel I only had a GoPro hero 4. I’ve since upgraded lol but I still want to get a different camera to make higher quality videos. The blade 230s was a great heli for its time. Still not bad but the M2 or S2 is night and day better in a lot of ways. If OMP or Goosky would release a 300 size (same size as the 230) it would take over. The flight performance and FBL performance of the M2/S2 is incredible. You will love the RAW 420! Perfect every day size heli! The Blade 360 is the BEST BNF heli Blade has ever made. My only two complaint is the power level and servo gear sets are weak and will strip in a crash but I think for a next step heli it’s perfect!

      @@westhobbiesrc8051 Appreciate your Reply! My Videos are taken on an old Sony DSC-QX10 which Sony made to fit onto cell phones in that time period before cell phones had good cameras built in. I have the OMP M1, but I've invested too much in Blade Heli's (S3, BL2, 150s, 180 Infusion, 230s, 360 Fusion), so i can't see myself getting the M2, and so I'm not sure my type of Flying style would get any better with an M2. I wish Blade would bring out a Direst Drive version of the 230s. I have to confess, that there are times when I "Freeze at the Controls" when learning certain manoeuvres - is this normal? ( I can do Inverted Hovers / circuits no problem with the Nano S3, but with the 150s and 230s, well that's another mindset matter ! )

This M2 exp is now in the MicroHeli scale fuse with the 4 bladed head but I rebuilt it after this crash and flew it for a year with over 150 more flights. The plastic is great for crashing but definitely better to upgrade to the metal head.

Unfortunately for me I fly VTouch and I can't use the OMP without receiver mods so I went Logo 200. I think the OMP and Logo are taking the market, especially with the Logo having a Neo on board

    Whatever happened at 3:08 has also happened with my 230s V2 twice. I think sometimes when level and spinning fast around the tail axis the FBL has a problem figuring out the real position.
    That also always causes the spin like in your video for about a second. It flys fine afterwards.
    Also mine also has that bobble sound in the tail motor, but flies just fine. I don't mind it anymore at all.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  Před 2 lety +2

      Not quite sure, I started to piro and the tail motor just shut itself off completely. I hit throttle hold to take torque off the tail and I flipped hold back off and it was fine for the rest of the flight. Never had that happen before. It does fly good but in comparison to the M2 it does not fly as good at all.

    Mine usually explode because of something I did. 🥴
    So I’ve had a few SR’s which I never really knew how to set up correctly but I love that size and would really like to fly them. I think I have a brand new 230S that I’ve never flown much because it went apecrap on me the first time I spooled it up. Maybe something set wrong on my transmitter. I seem to do better with the more subdued 120’s but with the new S2 flybarless version. I’ve been thinking about a M2 also. I bought some off brand K110 that seems to require a Futaba system which I don’t own. Not sure what to do there. Futaba has more radio versions than I have socks! LOL! Enjoyed the video as always!

      @@MrDngrsdave the M2 EVO is the newest M2 lineup. Much better tail performance and little bigger then the M2 V2/EXP. so personally I’m going to say get a spektrum radio. Main reason is they are the easiest radio on the market to program! You will need at least a 6 channel, NX6 is a fantastic radio and a great price. But I always tell people by at least an eight channel because if you stay in Mojave you will outgrow it really quickly. In the beginning of course you do not need more than six channels but depending on what your plan and goals are scale helicopters or what not you owe me more. Plus getting bigger models and different FBL units you can do a lot more with a 8ch over a 6ch. You will need a DSMX satellite like the Kensun as it has a bind button. You can get a TX16S or I would recommend a Frsky X20S but they can be harder to program.

      No stock 230 will blow the tail no matter your gains depending on how hard you are with the pitch. With the 300X motor that 636 had no chance. Put a Brain 2 FBL and no more tail blow out and way more power and pitch as well as a 3 blade head now. The 636 is a crappy FBL.

    Dude, your biases are showing. Not cool!
    First and hopefully obvious question... Why aren't you comparing the current versions of each model? The Blade 230s V2 was replaced with the 230s SMART a few years ago. You can't even get the 230s V2 anymore as it has been discontinued! The M2 Explore is still around, but don't you think it would be better and more interesting to compare the M2 V2?
    Second, you replaced the motor and blades on the OMP and consider this to be a fair comparison? You don't think changing out the two most important parts of your heli and tweaking the settings to perform a certain way isn't going to have a substantial effect on flight characteristics? You also said that the 130s was bone stock. Then why are there Align blades on it? That's not bone stock dude.
    Oh, did you also mention that the OMP M2 Explore also costs roughly $100 MORE than the 230s SMART? The M2 V2 is pushing $200 MORE than the 130s. Oh you didn't? Shame on you...
    I can currently get the Blade 230s SMART all day long via Horizon Hobbies for $250. The OMPhobby M2 Explore is $340 via Amazon. Same for the M2 V2 which is currently running $420. I would certainly HOPE that for the difference in cost that the OMP comes with better components and would fly/perform better there chief (And that's not even counting the cost of your "upgrades" either). This is for the BNF versions of both helis BTW.
    Maybe a better question to ask is "Which model offers better bang for the buck?" In other words, does the OMP M2 fly $100 better than the 130s SMART? Based on this video and several others doing reviews of this model, the Blade 130 SMART, and the Eachines E180, I'm not seeing enough to convince me that the OMP is that much superior to the rest.
    Then there's other questions like what about parts and availability? Compatibility with aftermarket radios? How hard are either to fix? How about hop-ups and Upgrades? Etc, etc, etc...
    Yes, I agree that in THIS particular video the OMP is better in a hover and has better tail authority than the Blade. That actually is impressive as motorized tails are (or at least were) notorious for tail wag and not keeping up with inputs to the main motor. One of the reasons I have stuck to belt or shaft driven tails over the years. My 10 + y.o. very old school Blade 400 3D can actually hold a pretty tight hover too when set up correctly. Then again tuning and set up is EVERYTHING when it comes to getting these helis to fly well regardless of manufacturer.
    Before you say anything, no I'm not biased towards eFlite or Blade.. or OMP or Eachine for that matter. What I want is an HONEST video comparing apples with apples, not this playing games of swapped parts and flying at least one obsolete model. Then there is the language you're using... "My grandpa learned to fly on a 230s..." vs. "In my opinion the best micro-helicopter ever made". Laying it on a bit thick, don't you think? Geez... Seriously, it does raise a few other questions of what you might not be telling us.
    As it is I am currently market for a new heli in the 200 - 300 size range. Unfortunately videos like this really don't help very much and kind of killed any enthusiasm I might have had for the OMP.

      @JEK134 Před 2 lety +1

      Biases are showing?
      Well here is an opinion from someone that doesn’t make videos or do helicopter comparisons.
      Out of all the micro helis out there, OMP has the best of the best and that’s why every other manufacturer is now copying the small direct drive, motor driven tail helis. As far as parts, you can get all the parts you need for a M2, given they are in stock since our country is ran by idiots.
      And if you have a 10 year old heli, it shouldn’t be hard for you to know what’s good and not if you have been in the game so long.

      This video has helped hundreds of people make the decision regardless if they wanted to go with the M2 or the 230.Unfortunately I cannot make videos to please everyone, I am probably the least biased person on CZcams in the game. I never push anyone or bash any brand other than giving my personal experience and opinion. Again as I’ve said in multiple videos if you watch my channel. I am not paid sponsored nothing everything you see on the videos are helicopters that I own. As far as comparing “old outdated” models. Well let’s see, The OMP hobby M2 V2 and M2 EXP are the exact same helicopter in regards to electronic frame design power system. The difference is? The V2 has a metal head color matched motors and metal cased servos. Hence the cheaper EXP. White performance wise they are identical! Now let’s compare the outdated V2 to 230 to the smart. What’s the difference? Let’s see, nothing other than battery telemetry and in my opinion a worst FBL than they already had. It’s the same design helicopter that’s been around since the blade SR days over 10 years ago. Now as far as the M2 having “bigger blade and bigger motor” that is untrue. If you watch and listen in the video you were talking about the 230. The M2 is bone stock! Now the 230s? Yes bigger motor and better carbon blades. Now why is that? Well let’s say like I’ve stated in other videos that it lacks serious power and blade flex is insane. So now let’s talk about prices, number one I do not talk about or mention prices and videos on products. For the fact of prices change every day again everything comes out of my pocket. Yes the V2 and XP is more money than the 230. But what are you getting for your money? A hell of a lot better helicopter in every sense. Why? Well let’s see a 230 S is $250 as you stated. But it is in a complete plastic helicopter. There is insane amounts of frame flex it is super weak and crashes tell authority is terrible. It is great for what it was years ago it is outdated even the smart. Can you upgrade it? Of course you can! But how much money are you going to spend to try to make it fly somewhat decent? More than you’re going to spend buying three OMP M2s. So is the M2 more expensive? Yes! But if you get a way better machine, but of course it all depends like I stated in my video what you are doing. If you are like my grandfather who is a normal flyer like the putt putt around and all you wanna do is figure eights 230 is perfect for you. But if you want a 3-D helicopter that will grow with you the M2 is for you. I am probably the only channel on CZcams that reply to every single comment. I replied to every email I spent hours helping people that I don’t have to! So is the M2 more expensive? Yes! But if you get a way better machine, but of course it all depends like I stated in my video what you are doing. Just like replying to you, Could’ve just deleted your comment like every other person does I can lie in every video I could tell you that the M2 is the only helicopter you should ever buy I could never post crashes or mistakes. But I have an honest channel! And I hope every person that needs it. So being biased? Yeah definitely not. So again I will tell you like I tell everyone, and you buy whatever helicopter you like. I don’t personally care if you like Echine as the best brand in the world cool as long as people are flying helicopters that’s all that matters. So if this video didn’t help you make up your mind there is a bunch of other ones that will and if they don’t then do your own research. Learn the different models and learn what the differences are before just jumping and saying things like you have today.
