    It is time for the newest instalment in that beloved cinematic automotive CZcams experience where we film practical cars that can be bought for less than £1,000 in a manner befitting of their inexpensive value! This may go horribly wrong...
    This time, as we test a 2007 Renault Twingo 1.2 TCe GT. This was a surprise test as I did not think these were available for No Budget Reviews money until a long time viewer approached me with one he had just purchased. Be prepared for a big opening sunroof, references to previous No Budget Reviews and Tweed Jacket Reviews episodes, boot configurations, dealer demonstrator discussions and really nothing of any importance at all. Nothing untoward, then...
    As an independent vehicle consultant, I take potential buyers through the whole car buying process from choosing a make and model to a vehicle handover and road tax. In addition to information on this service, I also have a selection of written and video reviews of cars that I have owned, hired, borrowed or have somehow come into my possession. Please use the Contact Me page on my website to get in touch, visit my Facebook page for latest updates and share this video if you like it! Thank you for watching.

    Great review again Mr Lloyd, Renault are good at making quirky but cool cars, and this Twingo is no different, love the dash on it, very different.
    I was suprised to hear you could buy one of these for less than a £1000!

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, sir, the reason why I know is because this one cost under £1000 and it was a lot of fun, although this is a really early one.

    Got one myself, so love the review! You can easily remap the engines to gain more HP. Mine's now got around 125HP and the difference is noticable. The GT's aren't around often, indeed most of the time you see Dynamiques (black headlights) and Authentiques (silver headlights). Underrated, very reliable little cars! Looks like this silver GT (lovely color!) is lowered / has stiffer suspension? Mine at first had too, but I brought if back to full standard specs, makes a difference. And... These were sold with parking sensors!😆

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety

      It's possible someone has played with the suspension at some point since 2007, as it was quite firm! Good fun, however. I am sure that these are relatively easy to map. Interesting that the parking sensors are standard, a good feature for a little city car. The engines do tend to be quite reliable if serviced properly with the appropriate cambelt changes. Glad you enjoyed the video, thank you ever so much indeed for watching!

    • @netako
      @netako Před 2 lety

      The GT definitely has stiffer suspension compared to the regular Twingo, it also applies to the Sport model (which, oddly enough, has better fuel consuption than the GT model).

    I like this Twingo!
    The dash looks like a combination of Smart (tach) and Nissan. The redesigned Nissan Quest (around circa 2007) had it gauge cluster in the middle, like this Twingo.
    Fold and tumble rear seating I like as well.
    Maybe different tyres could help soften the ride, I do not know.
    One thing I noticed was the passenger wiper arm and its articulation set-up. Unique!!

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, the wiper arm is a bit strange on the Twingo. By this stage, Nissan were fully owned by Renault, so if the Quest looks a bit like this, then that is not a coincidence. The next generation Twingo was the one which shared a platform with the current Smart Forfour, funnily enough.

  • @scottishcarenthusiastsandtrain

    Renault really have a nack of making fun wee sporty cars like this.
    I can guess Mr Seabrook would love that wiper arrangement.
    Gutted that you do not get Ross Kemp in the boot or Glovebox but that must have been standard in the 133!
    Thanks for reviewing this car Sir.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety +1

      I was offered the car at quite short notice and it was the fourth one I had filmed that day, so I didn't necessarily have the most amount of time to prepare for it, hence the lack of Ross Kemp jokes. I did see the original Top Gear episode back in the day, however.

  • @David_H-73

    Looks like you are having fun on Crag Road. Looks a fun little car and knowing Ellis he will have got it for a good price. The quirky rear engined mklll was a very different car.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety

      We are within No Budget Reviews money, sir, which I was surprised about! The Mark III has just finished production, I think, although we stopped getting them over here some time ago. Crag Road was as crazy as ever.

  • @markonmotoring
    @markonmotoring Před 2 lety

    The pre facelift cars I think look much better than later cars.
    The GT with its TCE engine or the RS133 should be great fun. The cars look well thought out with the adjustable rear seat and very square back end.
    The RS models were actually very attractively priced when new starting around £11k and there was also the Cup option available. There were also some Gordini versions but in my opinion perhaps not cost effective being a lot more expensive than the trim they were based upon.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety +1

      The engine was a bit noisy (it is the same one as in the Mark I Mégane, essentially), but it was quite fast with the turbo, and they are surprisingly cheap. The RS was very cheap for what it was back in the day, not sure how many there are around now.

    The original parcel shelf is attached to the boot lid, it slots into the grooves at the side of the boot (that you can see on your video). I still have the parcel shelf on mine. You actually recorded my car at the hubnut social in Brooklands.Its a silver GT, but it doesn't have a sunroof. But I've owned mine since it was 3 years old (I've had it for 9 years now).

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety

      Thank you for watching Daniel! Yes, I remember your car at Brooklands. This was filmed two weeks after the event, although it was released much later. I imagine as this would have been a demonstrator given its incredibly early registration date, and so that sunroof would have been an option.

  • @seancooke7332

    I very much regret that I have foolishly rejected both this model Renault Twingo and the Citroën C2, simply because both were very short and 3 door only.
    It seems that I have been guilty of narrow mindedness because the Twingo, at least, is a very accommodating, fine handling, powerful and well appointed little car, as demonstrated in your excellent video. This GT model looks particularly special.
    Thank you Sir for setting me bang to rights.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety

      It wasn't bad, I am not sure if I would actually own one, but I was quite impressed really, especially as these are available for surprisingly modest sums of money. The ride in this GT was a bit firm, however.

  • @mattw8332
    @mattw8332 Před 2 lety +1

    I really like this car, very neat design. Surprised that these were available in forbidden fuel flavour. Was it really necessary on a city car?
    I quite like the replacement model to this based on the Smart, mostly for it's unusual rear engine layout. Shame Renault no longer sell the Twingo .

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety +1

      Back in the late 2000s, things like the Vauxhall Agila and Fiat 500 had forbidden fuel versions, and so I am assuming that Renault decided that they needed one, although we don't talk about them on the channel. I think the Twingo is still in limited production, but not for our market.

    Great choice! Twingos are cool, I liked how Renault always tried new things with each generation! I am not sure if they were sold in New Zealand although Renault do have a luxury niche here! Was this made in collaboration with Nissan?

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  Před 2 lety +1

      Nissan and Renault started collaborating in around 1999, and so this probably did have some Nissan influence on it, as the 2002 version of the Micra did.

    I've always loved the Twingo. I remember seeing the MK1 in Auto Express and willing it to come to the UK. Sadly it was not to be so I had to wait for foreign holidays to get my fix.
    This era seemed like a worthy successor. A cute face, good use of space and I'm genuinely impressed with that rear seating arrangement.

      Hello William, thank you for watching and commenting on the video, I appreciate it. I have seen that Big Car video, it's a great channel. I don't know if you are aware of this, and you may well not be, but it's not really considered good CZcams etiquette to post links to other people's videos in the comments section. The algorithm doesn't really like it, and some people do get a bit sensitive about it, just so you know.
