2017 Renault Twingo GT Review - A Pint Sized Drift Missile? - Car Keys

  • The 2017 Renault Twingo GT is a city car with a bit of a difference, notably a rear-engined, rear-wheel drive layout and a turbocharged engine that seems to make it something of a follow-up to the legendary Renault 5 Turbo. Right?
    Well, not quite. What it is is a hilarious, surprisingly practical small car with a 980-litre boot, fuel economy of up to 53.4mpg and a funky interior with plenty of equipment.
    It’s not the car you think it is, and probably not the one you hope it is, but that doesn’t mean that the Twingo GT can’t still put a smile on your face.

    I think some people are missing the point, let's not forget its a city car, a rear engined, rear wheel drive city car with a 0-60 time of 9 and a half seconds and a stupidly large amount of optional space, all on top of the fact it has a much smaller turning circle as the wheels have more room because there's no engine there doesn't sound half bad to me. I personally think it looks great too so in my eyes this thing is amazing.

      Boneless Jack, I've owned a Twingo GT for six months now (white with optional decals) and I can highly recommend it as a fairly quick and very practical warm hatch that does around 45 mpg provided that you don't rev it flat out all the time . Cabin and boot space are fine as is the elevated driving position that gives great all round visibility. Handling is good but ride is a bit firm. Although these are used as entry level racing cars on the continent, the UK press's lukewarm response has managed to kill off sales of the Twingo GT in this country and they are now not listed at all by Renault UK although three are still recorded as being in stock (at a discount?) according to their website.

    Common renault . Lower it give it 135+bhp, bigger wheels, lower height and cup chassis and a sportier look and you have a winner. And make it 30kg+ lighter

  • @chrisogrady28
    @chrisogrady28 Před 6 lety +5

    Why won’t they make a proper RenaultSport Twingo? The last gen one had 135bhp, which still isn’t enough. The smart forfour brabus has the same problem. If they made a manual one of these cars with 150bhp+ I’d get one as a daily.

      Christopher O'Grady the last Twingo RS was plenty fast enough, only lacked power once you were doing over 120 on the motorway, which isn’t allowed anyway.

    • @ryanmcelroy5373
      @ryanmcelroy5373 Před 7 lety +8

      Not an awful lot really, just the battery, fluid bottles and some wiring. It doesn't actually open like a normal bonnet; instead you have to sort of unlock various plastic parts from outside the car and it then slides forward so you can access what's underneath. A whole lot of hassle for what wouldn't have been very interesting on camera!

    • @gianlucaantoniocamilleri1966
      @gianlucaantoniocamilleri1966 Před 7 lety +2

      The ESP I heard can be disconnected from the fuse box, and the revcounter is built into the R&Go system which will be displayed on the screen.

    • @ast5515
      @ast5515 Před 7 lety +2

      The ESP can be switched off by removing the fuse on any car. But that doesn't really make it OK. This is supposed to be the top of the line sporty variant.
      How can you put a revcounter on a display somewhere out of sight on a car like this?

    • @elitesennabubble
      @elitesennabubble Před rokem

      @ast5515 I have a video to wire an aftermarket rev counter too. If you pull the fuse, you lose your ABS too. Also the fuse you have to pull is hidden in a box under the front bonnet and its hard to get to and hard to open. With my way you can clear the dash lights as well when you disable ASR
