  • #CLEARPROP! It's the much anticipated Milviz Cessna 310! I've been desperate to get my hands on this, so of course we had to go all out for the review flight by getting hold of a real 310 pilot to help!

    This has rapidly become my favourite plane in the sim, especially in VR. No GPS, just radios and the sky4sim moving map with the airplane not showing, navigating by radio beacons and roads / rivers etc. It's not designed to fly so high that you can't enjoy the scenery and at the same time it's fast enough to get me from A to B at a reasonable pace. I forgot to turn the alternators on last night (in VR I don't hide the yoke so the battery and alt switches are normally out of sight out of mind) and nearly kakked myself when the avionics died 15 mins into the flight :)

    • @Tom__L
      @Tom__L Před 2 lety +1

      Exact the way I fly too… Sky4Sim to get a VOR to VOR route… hide plane in map… switch to flight plan in Sky4Sim and the C310 to radio nav only. Love it…

    I was so happy to see this plane appear in MSFS as it brings back so many memories of the three years I worked at an FBO at my hometown airport after I got out of the Air Force. As we were a Cessna dealer, I got to take a lot of free rides in the 310. The feature of letting it get dirty then washing it makes me laugh, as I can attest that they did get grimy. I spent many a free moment at work degreasing the undersides of these beautiful planes.

    I love this aircraft, because I flew one back and forth between Ft. Lauderdale and Boston several times in the early 80's. And the first A/C so far to work to A2A standards (that I loved in FSX), where everything works, including wear and tear and maintenance. Going to become my favorite.

    Fantastic video ! The bottom check box on the EFB passenger loading screen ('hide avatars') removes the models of the people but leaves the weight there - great if you want a MTOW plane but don't like looking at the passengers.

    From the manual about Individualization :-) way cooler than you think.
    "No aircraft you’ll ever fly is perfect unless it’s just come from the factory,
    and even then it’s unlikely everything is perfect. Most pilots know that every
    airplane is a little different from another even of the same make, model, and
    year. Since the last new 310R left the factory in 1981, we can be sure that
    applies here even more than usual. All have been heavily modified, repaired,
    and even rebuilt.
    We offer you this option to “individualize” each and every 310R in your
    hangar. By this, we don’t mean we change the look of the airplane - besides
    the different paints, the visual model is the same. Nor do we change the
    cockpit environment - except for the avionics suite options, they all have
    the same layout and controls.
    What we mean is that we randomly set the age and condition of the hundreds
    of components that make up the aircraft. On a certain airplane , the left
    engine pump might be starting to go bad, one of the gear lights might be
    close to burning out, or perhaps the right mag on the right engine is a little
    weak. And so on - the possibilities are almost endless. Each aircraft you
    choose to individualize will be set up a different way.
    We won’t hand you a broken airplane; every system will be operational. But
    if you are the owner (see above) and you choose to individualize, your first
    stop should be the maintenance hangar for an inspection. There, you’ll be
    able to see the condition of the major components visually. (For details on
    how to do this, consult the “Status” page below.)
    Individualization is permanent, so the option is off by default for each
    airplane. Once you choose it, the individualization happens instantly and
    can’t be un-done, and likewise a new individualization can’t be done. Clicking
    the option back off won’t do it. (You can, however, use the Status page to
    overhaul the entire airplane and turn off “Wear and Tear” (below) and you’ll
    be restored to a perfect sim plane that won’t change.)"

    Thank you very much for the great review. I am currently in the process of familiarizing myself with the C310r. Your video helps me a lot. You asked if there were previously airplanes that could be washed. I know the Diamond Katana DA-20 100 4X for FSX. There was washing and many other features ten years ago. I flew with her enthusiastically until"2020". If you like you can check the plane out bei Aerosoft. The Milviz 310 has been reborn in MSFS, I wish the same for the DA-20.Best regards

    My multiengine and multiengine instructor were done in the 310 (30 hours of flight training) and I built the 310R at the Cessna plant in Wichita, KS. until leaving in 1978 to work full time as an instructor. I normally climb out at Vyse. If you have an engine failure on takeoff you MUST retract the landing lights!

    What a fantastic video. Thank you for taking the time to make this. May I ask if you have had any issues with the heading knob on the Garmin G5? I know you prefer the analog gauges but just curious. It’s sensitivity is so low it takes 50 swipes to get the correct heading dialed. Analog seems to work just fine for me however.

    • @FlyFromHome
      @FlyFromHome  Před rokem +1

      Glad you enjoyed it! I only tried the G5 a couple of times but I didn’t notice an issue with the heading bug because I use my Honeycomb throttle controls to move it around. From what I gather it could be an MSFS bug caused by some key bindings on your peripherals. Try using a blank profile and see if that makes a difference!

    I really enjoyed this review. You touched on every aspect that I was curious of and then some. I've always thought the Cessna 310 was a really cool airplane and I'm glad to see that such a detailed version of it is available in MSFS. However, I think you're right about the price of it. After seeing your review I'm sure I'll be purchasing it at some point, but I hope this doesn't start a "justification" of higher prices simply because of a few "unique features" on otherwise normal GA aircraft. If the 310 were offered by Carenado (for example) with great looks and reasonable flight handling for ten bucks less, I'd certainly consider it. I don't care much for having to worry about a breaker popping, etc... most of the time I just want to relax and enjoy flying the airplane. Perhaps those "extra realism features" could be offered as a reasonably priced addon package for those who want it?

    • @FlyFromHome
      @FlyFromHome  Před 2 lety +1

      Glad you enjoyed the review! Yes, the price does put it in a strange place when you consider what else you can buy for that. I do think the effort they’ve put in here warrants a higher price than most though.

    • @toribarron5700
      @toribarron5700 Před 2 lety +2

      You might like the MilViz Porter. Same company. Same excellent flight dynamics. But a more affordable price point.
      Really though, this plane is well worth the price and the extra features add an immersion and require a mindfulness other planes lack. Which is brilliant because this isn’t a particularly complex plane and with two engines, has the redundancy you need for even a major failure. I was skeptical but it turns out these new features add gameplay. You are thinking and managing things while flying. They somehow managed to make it fun instead of a chore.
      You know how it costs a little extra for a well made complex airliner? The 310 adds that extra level of detail and polish that constitutes a slightly higher price. One of the few must buy GA planes in the sim. It just has personality.

    • @nuversion8673
      @nuversion8673 Před 2 lety

    Looking closely at this one. Obviously the A2A Comanche is everyone’s big deal at the moment, but the mph airspeed and weird panel layout aren’t doing it for me. I just spent a crapload on Rod Machado’s IFR ground school, and need a reasonably fast plane with an utterly standard panel to learn that, uh, stuff. They are vastly different planes even though they look kinda similar if you squint.
      The 414 is pressurized and flies smooth at high altitudes. A luxury SUV.
      The 310 isn’t, and it has shorter wings so it is more of a sports car.
