  • In this installment of Why You Should Fly we take a look at the Mizviz Cessna 310R, one of my favorite GA planes to come to the sim thus far. It gives you some really cool persistence options, as well as a capable if finnicky airplane to explore with.

Always loved the 310 since I was a kid in the late 60's. When I got msfs2020, this model was the first plane I bought. I use it often in the sim.

Good video, great banter. The 310R was my first twin endorsement. I flew cross country in one with a few friends from KMYF to KNEW to Mardis Gras in New Orleans. I suggest keeping your final apph speed at 105 (blue line on the ASI) until you cross the threshold and slowly reduce power as you flare. The 310s have relatively small wings and a narrow wing chord, so their handling at speeds below 95 knots is sluggish and mushy. I'd also recommend not going to full flaps until you know that landing is assured in the event of power failure. Dropping full flaps early will put your airspeed behind the blue line and the power curve. Thank you letting me ride along, it was fun! Oh, great landing, by the way!

The 310 is one badass looking plane with that long sleek nose 👍

Such a good plane! Probably the best MSFS GA craft at the time this video was made.
Yes, it has some competition. That 414 is impressive.
But the way Milviz models failures and maintenance… and keeping the passengers happy… it works! If it wasn’t done well it could be boring or annoying but they managed to make it fun.
So ultimately the 310 feels like MY plane. Things are set where I left them. The brakes need work because I got them too hot on my last landing and the pads need replacing.
Even the odd circuit going out in flight adds challenge, mystery, and fun.
The 414 is also an amazing plane but it lacks all those extra bells and whistles that make the 310 feel like it is MY very own plane. Kinda fun to have the larger flight envelope of the 414 though.
The 310 is just brilliant. For now, it is top of class.
Thanks for your upload. I really enjoy these, “Why You Should Fly ____” videos. An in depth review after the newness has worn off. Planes that still stand out to you as quality. And the 30 is definitely one of the best for this format!
    Cheers

So the reason why you do want to keep some power in when landing this and just about any twin prop aircraft is the the propellers generate induced lift over the wings which accounts for about 1/3 of the total lift. Suddenly cutting the power instantly removes about 1/3 of your total lift and will cause the aircraft to drop firmly onto the runway.

Thank you! I was wondering why my landings were so rough… as soon as I hit my desired point on the runway I usually cut engines (cause I’m used to tbm and 152) but I was litterally slamming onto the ground like a f18 trapping on a carrier and my passengers weren’t too happy…

The 310 has become one of my favorite GA planes to fly in the sim, which is pretty impressive when I consider that I'm not a fan of twins and I have no prior experience, nostalgia or really knowledge of the plane . It's just fun to fly. A good mix of complexity and skill but nothing obnoxious or overly demanding.
I like to think of it as my MSFS Millennium Falcon. Sure it won't outrun a Star Destroyer, or make a Kessle Run.. but it's got that feeling of being and old work horse with a few quirks that needs a bit of TLC to keep her from complaining. She's good for sightseeing, or hauling some passengers around.. or smuggling some "pizza" deliveries into some dirt strips if that's your thing.

Landing this plane IS tricky. Once you get good at it, try landing it with one engine out 😂

This looks like a really nice plane but I think I prefer single engines. I'm really a scenery viewer when I'm flying (in VR), so I don't want to look out my window and see a big engine and wing tip tank instead of a mountain range. I wish there were more fast high fidelity single engines. I've been using the Bonanza and the TBM 930 mostly. I picked up the Kodiak but the VR controls are broken for the model. I have considered the Arrows but I'm not sure about the really bare bones autopilot setup, as I like to use AP.

I’m having a terrible time trying to get the Autopilot to work. If you read the 310R user guide it pretty much says not our problem. Save your money.

Great video! I'm an Xbox sim aviator and am not sure why or where the C310 is? Do you know if or when this aircraft will make it to Xbox?

    • @VFRSimulations
      @VFRSimulations  Před rokem

I don't think it is coming to Xbox because of some of the persistent features which rely on some external stuff (i think)

she's too cool for flight with cowl flaps open:) didn't mention cool feature about power - there two orange digital gauges left where shows hp quantity on the engines, i found it's 50% mixture best for 5000f. and tds is better than pms:) and she's same smooth landing like any other, but just need power as all stuff like that with too much weight on the wing square, different between that's types of ac is some of them are gliders with engines, some of them engines with wings... this one and starfighter as example are second type... actually f-104 even not ac... she's rocket, which pretend aircraft lol... cool trip:) don't take my words serious. all i said is irony of virtual pilot to real world pilot lol
