    • @UyemaHD
      @UyemaHD Před 7 lety +29

      Longevity definitely should have weight but lets put this into perspective, has there been any other player in history that is better than 85-87 Maradona or age 20-till injury Ronaldo or 09'-12 Messi? I think those three points in history of football was the greatest a player has played. In terms of totally, you can make the argument that 15' to 17' (now), there has never been a player so offensively complete as Messi. He is the best at goalscoring, dribbling and playmaking, ALL AT ONCE! Something we have never seen. Maradona was a playmaking/dribbler, Ronaldo 9 was a goalscoring/dribbler. Messi embodies all three at the highest of levels. But yes, if we use the longevity factor, well Messi has been the best player for the last 10 years in footballing ability. No player has ever dominated like he has.

    • @hvltg3753

      Thug Style The 1994 brazil national team that won the world cup is considered the worst selection in brazil national team history and ronaldo as a young player won that world cup and won the 2002 korea-japan world cup,ronaldo nazario hold the record of most goals in world cup history until klose broke that record in 2014,now i ask u what is more impressive being a legend and win league titles in italy in the 90's and early 2000's in those time the italy league was the most defensive league in the world, win titles in spain with real madrid zidane roberto carlos etc and win two world cup with one of the most legendary national team in the world with all the pressure that mean, do u know how many legendary players has played for brazil not only pele but rivaldo,garrincha, didi,tostao etc and ronaldo phenomenon is the one that hold most of the record of that selection history and do that having to overcome from two injuries that would finish any player in any era past or present you need a special kind of human being to do that search for the interview of buffon the juventus goald keeper in what hi say that ronaldo nazario is the only striker that most intimidated him look for the interview of zinedine zidane sayind that ronaldo nazario is the most spectacular player that hi ever see in his life even zlatan have poster of ronaldo nazario in his room when zlatan was a young player.(sorry for the English).😄

      The Evolution of Physical and Technical Performance Parameters in the English Premier League (2006-2013)
      Shows that Distance coverage increased (including most importantly High Intensity distance coverage), ball passing share of Poor-Passers Decreased dramatically and for WC spanning a massive 44 year timespan (1966-2010) the passing rate and critically speed of ball passing increased.
      The effect of high and low percentage ball possession on physical and technical profiles in English FA Premier League soccer matches
      This looks at the distance coverage of teams who have different ball-possession dynamic, essentially those who like to hog the ball or those who rely on counters, parking the bus and not able to play possession football, how does that affect physical metrics. There are dramatic findings for different positions and styles.
      Physical Demands of Different Positions in FA Premier League Soccer
      This is a simple movement study and doesn't do comparison so it may become important as reference when another similar study is done in coming years.
      Evolution of match performance parameters for various playing positions in the English Premier League.
      One of the most important ones. It shows that from 2006-2013 alone High Intensity Distance coverage for a position like FB in PL increased by a Mind-boggling 36%. This is down right absurd levels of increase. Changes like this took decades in 2nd half of 20th century in other distance coverage metrics.
      These are just 4 studies from last 15 years and just covering PL alone. I have seen studies from all over the world, even Brazilian leagues or from as far back as the 1950s. Players in 1950s were doing 5-6 Kms per match.
      Football is better now and that is a factual statement, anyone who brings up nonsense like can't compare era is delusion and blinded by nostalgia and bias. Period.
      Even an Amateur football game played by obese 5 a side teams will be entertaining, that doesn't make it "Better" in the context this is used here. Anything can be exciting, doesn't make it Elite or the pinnacle of possible human performance. Meaning what one means when they are comparing eras, teams, leagues need to first provide context because things like "Better" have clear and obvious meaning when no context is given.

    at their best, between the Brazilian Ronaldo and Messi, the following would have to be looked at: 1. Goals ( even though Ronaldo was an out-and-out number 9, he is miles, let me repeat, miles behind Messi). Ronaldo's best scoring season was 42 goals, Messi's best scoring season was 73 goals. 2. Dribbling, Ronaldo could sure dribble and take on 3, 4, 5 players and actually end up scoring. But with Messi, it that as well, but the number of times Messi does it is far more than what Ronaldo did. 3. Passing, Messi is miles ahead. 4. Link-up play and assists, Ronaldo would wait for service most of the time, whereas Messi provides service to his players, which is why Luis Suarez scored 61 goals in the 2015/2016 season (for the first time in his career). He has scored 33% of Barcelona's la liga goals of the last 10 years. I loved Ronaldo so much but Messi is something else, winning golden boot playing as a midfielder (17/18) should tell you that much about him.

    Messi did it consistently for eleven years (from 18 to now 29 years old) against Club's with multi million dollar budget that buy multi talented players to create an "ultimate unbeatable team". while R9 only did it 2-3 seasons + 1 World Cup. CR7 no need to debate he is in lower class even to R9. Pele very good coz he won 3 World Cup and Maradona with super individual performance to help Argentina won in 1986.... If you have to rate the 5 best player of all time :

    R9 was like the Terminator. Back then if you were a defender he would just get the ball, turn, and you knew he was going to either go though you or by you. That's how he got so many injuries. There was no way to legally stop him in an era full of World Class defenders.
    In an era including Zidane, Rivaldo, Batistuta, Bergkamp, Henry, Figo, Totti, Laudrop, etc he was still considered the best.
    He was, in football, as far ahead of his piers as Usain Bolt was in Track and Field. Who's Messi's competition? CR7 and.......CR7......Kaka but then he got injured and older. Over the years Zlatan has proven he's an all time great but who else is there really? Everybody else plays with him in a team designed to maximize his influence and potential.

    • @johanndiaz8387
      @johanndiaz8387 Před 7 lety +2

      Amanda Hugankiss wrong, messi and Ronaldo have set a standard by which those players back then wouldn't have received that much praise in today's game. Only a few have scored and assisted like messi and Ronaldo for over 5+ years. Great players like Xavi, Iniesta, Ribery, Robben, Hazard, Neymar, Modric, Lewa, Suarez etc all get overlooked cus of their brilliance.

    • @Asanney
      @Asanney Před 7 lety +1

      Xavi, Inesta, Neymar and Suarez ALL PLAY(ED) WITH HIM IN A TEAM GEARED TOWARDS HIM.
      And if you think Hazard, Lewa, Ribery, Modric deserve to be in the same conversation of comparison as Zidane, Rivaldo, Totti, and Figo.. I'm wondering if we can even have a serious football discussion at this point.
      Good defense/defenders are close to non existent these days and we've just recently seen what happened when he faced Juventus who along with Ath Madrid are the last two real exponents of the art. If R9 played in La Liga today he's be hitting a hattrick+ every week. La Liga defenders are like inept guards in a James Bond movie. And Messi is only "Bond" when he wears the Barca shirt.
      And thats the other thing that makes him lose massive points. Both he and CR7 are not the same when they play for their country. Christiano has shown more heart than him I don't know if that's because he's older so probably more mature but neither of them have truly dominated an international competition for their country despite CR winning the Euros and Messi reaching 3 finals.
      R9, weather fat or fit, always looked the same player for Club as he did for his national team. A characteristic I cant say of Messi or CR. Even Neymar looks far more convincing for both than them.
      If Neymar had a team geared towards him like Messi has Barca and CR has Madrid and he was allowed to fully unleash as he does with his national team he'd be ahead of both right now.

    • @spinosaurusd2985
      @spinosaurusd2985 Před 7 lety

      Be careful. R9 was great but he wasnt leagues ahead of his peers like ur saying. I agree he was better than most of the people u listed, but not leagues ahead. And was he better than zidane? Think about it. People don't praise neymar, iniesta, zlatan, suarez and the rest like they praise rivaldo, henry figo, etc. U know why? Coz messi and cr7 have been leagues ahead.

    • @Asanney
      @Asanney Před 7 lety +1

      Even Zidane himself thinks he way better than him. His own words not mine he's said it many times in various interviews you can look it up. In fact, its when R9 had the seizure and played while sick in the 98 WC Final and Zidane scored the headers that the World truly stood up and took notice of him. Its when Ronaldo was out for almost 2 whole seasons with knee injuries that Zidane, Rivaldo etc had the chance to really flourish especially as far as notoriety is concerned.
      I think Naymar is an elite and special generational talent and that if he had his own club team built around him He'd be winning Ballon D'ors already. Zlatan is unique. I think he's scored the most amazing goals of any footballer of any era. But even he is almost from the same era as R9 albeit near the end of his career, and again, he also thinks R9 is the greatest. Come to think of it, I believe Messi also said R9 is the best! Look it up. Iniesta is a great but as with Xavi he plays(ed) in the same team as Messi for Messi and I'd take a Kaka in top form over him on my team any day. A guy like Kaka who is not as gifted as Messi has shown way more heart than him for club and country through the years.
      And Luis Suarez is World Class. Yes he's good.....But he aint that good. The celling for Neymar is way higher than for him, Iniesta, Zlatan, but time will tell if he reaches his full potential. And I tell you what, at this rate, if Messi doesnt somehow, he's better off leaving Barca and going to build his career elsewhere. As long as he's in barca with Messi he'll never be fully unleashed. He's already ahead of both of them for the national team.
      But aside from him, right now, realistically, there arnt any other real World Class players out there who CR & Messi are competing with.

    • @johanndiaz8387
      @johanndiaz8387 Před 7 lety +2

      Amanda Hugankiss LMAO "Suarez is good but not that good" I'm starting to think you're the reason football conversations can't be held on YT, like I said before. If Messi and Ronaldo played in their era scoring 50 goals and 18 assist every season players like figo would be put under just how great players in today's game get ignored (Ribbery, Robben, Hazard) just because they're not putting up the stats. Modric is one of the best midfielders to ever play if you can't see that I can't help you. Kaka was great but don't talk to me about players who had a two year Prime lol. No one has played at messis level for as long as he's played. Messi R9 and Maradonna are in their own league from everyone else. And if you think it's easy to score what sport are you watching, defensive tactics are far more advanced and every team has 9 players in the box against Barca at all times

Every goal Barcelona scores is either by Messi, or assisted by Messi. Show me another player you can pass the ball to, step aside, and watch him dribble through six opposing players and then score, while making them all look like amateurs?! And not just do it once, but do it over-and-over, year-after-year. He's the best dribbler by far. He's one of the best free-kick takers from outside the box ever. His assists are highlights within themselves. Lionel Messi is the best. I feel like Mugatu from Zoolander, listening to these people say he isn't the best... "I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!"

    Until Messi wins something for for Argentina (even copa america will do), he will never be considered the greatest ever.
    How can a player who has played three world cups and scored ZERO goals in the knock out stages, and doesnt step up when the national team needs him the most, be considered the greatest ever ? Its not as if Argentina has a bad team. They have a very good team. Most of their team members play for top clubs.

      Well, Maradona's teammate Jorge Valdano said that Maradona was Maradona sometimes, Messi is Maradona everyday. People glorify retired players thinking they never had a bad game. Factually, Maradona wasn't the Maradona you see on highlights everyday, he was very inconsistent. So was Zidane, Ronaldinho. There isn't much footage of Pele, Di Stefano and elder greats. However, Messi is putting astronomical numbers every year. Im not referring to just goal+assist. I am talking about dribbles, chances created, key passes, shot efficiency and so on and his number are near impossible to replicate. Messi is the best talent there has been since Brazilian Ronaldo. Plus, Messi literally plays like Maradona, same height, style of play, both left foot, only difference is that Messi is banging in 50 goals a season with 25 assist, Maradona could never touch those numbers. You could make an argument that in there times, the defenders were better. But in Messi's time footballers are more athletic and football tactics are far more superior.
