One thing to note is that increasing engine above 9 and armor above 4 adds an extra resource cost per factory to the tank. This means that lategame when you have 100+ factories on tanks you're going to really feel the extra CIC tax trading for resources unless you avoid upgrading them that high. It might not be worth upgrading them when you consider the massive increase to cost.

Doesnt matter in mp, you just trade back
@@janys6502 true but I didn't say I was talking about mp. Also I'm pretty sure this video and my comment are both outdated now anyway with all the changes to tanks.
Question: You can made amphibious heavy tanks or even Amphibious super heavies? Can my dream of finally making the Aquatic Maus be done?
actually yes, if you put the amphepious attachment on the tank :)
i think
I remember in the paradox video about the tank designer showing that the amphibious modification forbids the heavy tank role, unless it was changed you shouldn't be able to do heavy amphibious tanks.
(note, because the game specified "heavy tank" the debs might of forgot to also forbid the role for super heavy tanks which means there might still be hope for the first days before the unwanted feature gets fixed)

@@dustinl796 pretty sure the Abrams uses a Gas Turbine engine.
@@tyger5645 The M1, T-80 (not U models) and Stridsvagn 103 (S Tank) all use turbines. There was actually a Panther modified with a turbine engine during WWII, so including them in HOI4 isn't all that unrealistic.

Only problem with that is the supply, it takes a few days to convert the railways so you end up with a steadily increasing -% to breakthrough. After a bit your tanks will have -50% breakthrough and stop.

Thank you! This really helped me with the new update, Iâve been playing HOI4 for a decent time now, and this really shakes things up and seems really unfamiliar and confusing, so this really helpful.
Also! Congrats on coming out! Literally I remember watching your prefect divisions guide and your USA Guides ages ago.
I remember reading the little tank image would differ depending on what kind of equipment you have mounted on your tank not just presets based on unit type or what you choose :l
maybe, but thats how i do it :)
Fantastic guide, informative and helpful while easy to watch, great stuff!
just to add in, upgraded mechanized can go up to 13.2km/hr if you really wanted to run over your opponents
Diesel engine does add reliability, but to reach same amount of speed that gasoline engine provides, tank design must increase engine power, that reduces the reliability and increases the cost. My recommendation is to try both variants and compere them.
I don't think you need 140ish piecing, and wet ammo storage gives 15% of reliability, and easy maintenance only give 10; accordingly to not super accurate game info.
My target speed for medium tanks is usually 10 km/h because that is speed of halftracks that are accompany them (I don't have experience to increase speed of halftracks). Target for reliability is: (100 * number of tanks in division - 1000) / number of tanks in division and for 150 tanks it is around 93,33%. That is reliability on which division will have least amount of attrition losses.
My target for piercing is around 85-90 (I have 3 medium tank battalions, 6 mechanized, artillery company, engineers company and logistical company) so with that piecing my division have piecing around 50 and that is usually enough. My armor target is around 100, so division will have armor of around 50 that is usually enough.
thx for sharing the info, especially half tracks
Do a max armor test vs max soft attack with flametrhowers
hmm, interesting idea ;)

"Historically accurate tank names"
*Has a Panzer IV H or J named a Panzer IV E*
atleast im trying lmao
Those are all accurate model designs
@@beenthroughnam3747 Its about the actual design. Panzer 4 was designed as an infantry support tank (the game actually does this right when you do the treaty with ussr) and had, up to the F1 model, a short barreled 7.5 cm cannon. From A to F1 the Panzer 4 only really changed some outside features and armor thickness. F2 got the new long barreled 7.5cm K.w.k 40 for anti tank usage. G was again armor improvement and H got sideskirts and the slighly longer 7.5cm kwk 40/L48. The J was basically a last ditch effort to reduce production costs by for example removing the hydraulic turret drive.
And to connect this to the comment above. He was already designing the H or J version while naming it E đ€Łđ€Ł.
But its not a problem of course đ.

Thx for the guide! could you maybe do an in depth guide on the supply system and strategy's involving the supply system.
still working on it, supply is complicated af now lol
Theres so much stuff to research now that it can be a bit overwhelming. I just tried a playthrough as USSR and was completely lost lol. I dont think its possible to get both tank and navy upgrades researched simultaneously. There's at least a dozen different industry, tank, navy, artillery, electronic, infantry, aircraft and train tech trees to upgrade, that all take at least 50-150 days to complete. It's too much, especially for a nation like USSR who only has 4 research slots for the first few years. I quite like the new supply system. Logistics needed some depth added to it. The new military high command is good too. But the research system is bloated as fuck lol. They need to streamline it a bit, there's too much going on right now. They had quite a good balance before this update. Imho, anyway.
i guess, i think it helps mp tho because it gives germany an edge early on for the wars because they get the extra slot for tank research. so they can have better tanks than the allies and then by ww2 russia should be getting close to par
@@dustinl796 True. I guess it is realistic. But im not too sure that an extra research slot would make much difference. But i havent actually played as Germany with the new update, so i'll reserve judgement. But yeah, the new Soviet system is brutal. The purge goes on for years, constant debuff's, too few research slots... I'm going to have to wait until the community puts together a guide or something because, like i said, it's a little overwhelming.
But you no longer have to research doctrines saving ALOT of time.
actually NSB not so bad, you unlock most things through tech that was already in the game.
@@SirAroace Im currently in the middle of a playthrough with Germany and that extra research slot makes all the difference. As far as I remember, you only have 3 research slots as soviets at the beginning, the fourth is locked behind a couple of focuses that have a 170 day cool down period. The 5th isnt available for years. I got demolished in that playthrough lol. It was abysmal. I havent had a game that bad in a long time. But i think i just need to learn the best way to approach the new focus tree and it should be ok. Absolutely loving the new update so far.
Thanks for the video!
Please could you make a video about the new logistics system? It's a pain to get my head wrapped around
Im working on it but man its hard lol
Thanks!
I'm wondering if they'll ever do a infantry update where you can basically make your troops use FALs and M14s earlier than in our world through customization of the designs
Iâll be using the the term âTanknologyâ quite frequently thanks to you!
Thanks lol
I hope this isn't a stupid question, but for reliability would wet ammunition storage be preferable or easy maintenance? I saw that wet ammunition storage has more reliability but is more expensive.
quality video Carly
In my opinion they should have added land mines into the game somehow, and added mine flail attachments for tanks to counter them. Just like sea mines and the mine sweep in the ship designer
Ooo, yea that would been freaking sick!
Yoo quick thank you
np, thank you for watching :)
Im all about making some kind of improved T-34 but then the price goes up and the point was kinda mass production, but I do it anyway! Hey, can we get like a new Russia Player Guide the new meta choices spin my head right round...
The petrol-electric engine was Ferdinand Porsche's idea for the Tiger prototype, which later became the Elefant/Ferdinand. Its unreliability is legendary, as most Ferdinand at Kursk were abandoned before even fighting the Soviets.
didnt it catch fire on a demonstration at hitlers bday?
@@dustinl796 Yeah but since Porsche was friend with Hitler, he was allowed to continue developement.
Actually no he was not allowed to continue development. The elephants were built on the preproduction hulls that had already been made before the trials of the Hull, so as not to waste them.
Infact porshe wasn't even allowed to show off his improved petrol-electric drive on his vk4502(p), his design for the tiger 2 wa rejected without testing. He wasn't even allowed to demonstrate his hydro-electric drive vk4502 despite the hydro-electric panzer 4 test vehicle being reliable...
If youâre going for heavy armour grab the gasoline. Youâre going to need a powerful engine to move the tank and itâs actually better for reliability to go gasoline in those cases since you can get away with a lower engine level.
Bursting point, I'll look into it :-)
nice username
@@MrOceMcCool thanks!
Does armor works the same for spa?
Realisticly they would neee less because they are far away from teh front line.
Can you make a video about infantry templates for the dlc as well?
Honestly i probably will
Now I need that list of historical tanks
Don't use your Lt Tank to overrun, use it to exploit breakthroughs with micromanagement. Use a combination of holding Shift to plot a route for each fast tank, hands on control for one or two tanks, and an Army Group of Cav, Mech or Motorised to passively follow behind. I have been itching to use this strategy for so long.
Back when Recon Support Companies gave you +10% speed, +5 Engines you could almost get to 18/hr(from memory) if you took both the Blitzkrieg Theorist & Manuver Warfare Army Chief. Specialised Lt Tanks are faster than that!
That is how i use them lmao
I hope we get this for planes or small arms next patch. Such a cool feature
Can you please make a video about how the supply works in this dlc? I'm really struggling to figure it out.
working on one ;)
It's simple.
Old version: supply comes from capital to the province. Limited by infrastructure level, naval port lvl, sea routes.
Now: supply comes from capital via train on railroads to the supply node, then by horses/trucks to the province in which troops are present. Supply now limited by railroad lvl, supply node lvl, available trucks which carry supply from nodes to the armies.
How do you put your different tank designs in in different unit designs? For example, separate a tank design to attack infantry and a tank design that destroys tank?
pretty much, but thats because i play usa. i try to make a tank force like this, (every 10 as example) 4 just normal tank divs for everything, 2 anti tank specific tank divs, 4 anti infantry specific
Have you noticed that the Axis armour packs donât work yet the allied ones do?
Yup
Can you put specific close support tanks as artillery battalions to seperate them from your regular tanks?
No, sorry
Could you do a template video?
PLEASE do a tutorial on how to properly build the new railways. . .

You need No Step Back DLC to use the module designer in the new update
@@ahyesdoctoriam7390 I fixed it, it was a mod I was using, thank you though
ah yes, ye old mods not being updated
Well you know Christie Tanks were actually pretty fast (113kph), so it makes sense!
If we are going by actual historical tanks 25kph is super slow, like maus level of slow even the tiger 1 went 44kph
this is cruising speed, on the march
true, but still its kinda cool imo
Infact the game is alittle too fast. 25km/day was considered fast for a tank unit in ww2. And the fastest forced march in the whole war was 100km in a day (~4km/h) by the us 2md armours division.
Personally i dont think having a tank faster then 12km or 4km is worth it. Because the division will get slowed down by infantry depending what you have in it (12km if motorized, 4km if infantry).
In one of my designs, i made a SP Artillery tank with 4 speed but veeery high armor and breakthrough, then assigned it to regular 20 or 40 width leg infantry division. Great increase in soft attack, armor and breakthrough at the cost of speed which doesnt matter infantry is going to slow it down regardless.
You can do the same with motorized or mechanized divisions to match their speed.
Yea, they should have let us upgrade motorized imo
Bro I've got the Axis Armor Pack but it doesn't seem to be working when I try to create a King Tiger model or make the Maus, it just shows the Tiger 1 3d model.
im not sure why, all i can suggest is verifying game on steam or wait for a patch. also make sure no mods are on
how do you put the custom tank into your division
when I try to do it I can only put in basic tanks
once you make it in the designer and pick either anti air, arty, tank destroyer and save it. then it can be selected
How can i get the improved automatic cannon II?
If you have Man the Guns DLC.. They just work the same way.. Hopefull soon they make the same DLC for planes.
yup, flying spaghetti dlc lmao
next dlc will be a battle for the Bosporus style but the nordic countries focusing on finland. the one after that will most likely be italy and a plane designer/rework. so in like another year.
I dont have the same menu a havo one too basic i cant do basically nothing
It's better for smaller countries to do specialized cheap tanks, like a light tank with crazy armor piercing. Or anti-infantry tanks with added machine guns
good point
how do i get self propelled artillery and that stuff?
how do you deploy them though im just producing them
if i want chage the model of the tank i need a dlc?
I just got all the DLCs (had none) and they made it way too complex even if it's fun. A separate research category would have been simpler, I'm lost everytime I play multiplayer and end up being one of the only players with no tanks by 1941 lol. Having to figure it all out on your own must be a pain!
I like the ability to customize stuff, and honestly, I find HOI4 pretty forgiving. The meta is usually only a bit better than otherwise, and sweating about getting max stats is honestly just stressful. Min-maxing isnât fun save for a few people, and donât expect that you have to do it. To me, even if I eat shit, the ability to make my own tank/ship is so much more satisfying than just researching it.
Plus, it gives so much more to minor nations. Take Canada for example. You can focus your entire navy on making a ton of dirt cheap destroyers, as their only role is in protecting your convoys by taking out submarines. They donât need a ton of armour or anti-air for that. All they need is depth charges.
And itâs entirely customizable to your play style. You like making a fuckton of decent enough tanks like the Soviets? Go ahead. You want to help your allies but donât have the industry to make a lot of tanks? Make a handful of awesome tank divisions that wipe anything that it touches and make encirclements, helping where it counts.
yea Imma just try play as British Malaya and then overrun Thailand and Japan with small tanks that can go 19km per hour, maybe even conduct a amphibious landing at Japan with those amphibious tanks( I did it a few times but I only naval invasion Japan with pure marine divisions that have no tanks)
Lmao, breaks the game
Whatâs annoying is itâs Summer sale and paradox still doesnât include this as half price.
thanks!!!
glad to help :)
how to get squeeze bore special module ?
You forgot to mention that you can use heavier guns with fixed superstructure
dang, true
Hmm I don't want to be that guy but I think there should be a hard cap to how much armor you can add to each tank type (medium, light, heavy, etc) . Otherwise you can just make a super heavy tank out of a medium tank. Makes no sense. The transmission and hull shouldn't be able to keep up with all that weight
I do sorta agree, i think for light it should max out at like 50, medium like 90, heavy like 120 and super heavy is uncapped
I wish I could still add extra armaments to the modern tank chassis to recreate the E25.
The modern tank is a E50 chassis tho
@@matthiuskoenig3378 And the tank destroyer Version of the E50 Was the E25
So is reliability worth it? I figured out a way to have a tank division with like 3000 breakthrough, 1500 soft and hard attack, but only 20% reliability for the division.
just means it will melt to attrition and you will have to build 5 times the tanks to keep the divisions equipped in good supply. and given the supply rework... well you will probably end up needing to build closer to 20 times the number of tanks to even keep few tank divisions.
updates just out and theres already videos about the new meta lmao

How can you master these designs? Apply to Paradox University, Hearts of Iron faculty, and take Tanknology.
How does upgrades to captures/lend lease tanks work
lend leased tanks will change the template stats based on the lend leased tanks. so if your tanks have 50 breakthrough but the tanks from lend lease have 25, if you have half the tanks in the division but the lend leased tanks are the other half, the breakthrough should be around 42ish
