Ethiopia is pretty difficult, so here's a guide. Should work every time, 90% of the time. No need for external support, we will beat Italy on our own.
This is a guide, but it is played in Ironman so that you know it works.

It is interesting to see a different approach. The militia are pretty strong. Wish I trained them now 😆
They work well with my philosophy of sending troops to frontlines without equipment!
Since the militia don't suffer as much from supply issues, might it not work out pretty well to keep them instead of modernizing for any long campaign focused on fighting in Africa?
@@Worgrunner you can still use them even if you modernize, just can't make any more. Themilitia part of the tree gives you more of tehm and some boosts, but I think the modernization one is better

I don’t know when exactly Haile Selassie learned that there was a religious movement worshiping him in Jamaica, but I like to think he got it as an aside between updates on how the war with Italy was going
only thing i know is that he was not pleases with it and send one of his bishop to jamaica to guid them starting the othodox church of jamaica

I was just playing Ethiopia in ironman to try and get some achievements, if only I knew they were adding an Ethiopian focus tree!
Some might be easier on the old version, but the new focus tree is very extensive

@@nadiabubar23 its actually easier than ethiopia cuz if you get a bunch of entrenchment bonuses and sit on top of the capital the italians can pretty much never push

My biggest fear is with focus tree , Italy will always lose now , make Italy even more weaker
@@mostfire8764 It’s probably gonna be scripted for Ethiopia to lose if you play on historical. The war is still fairly easy for the Italians to win since winning as Ethiopia can only really happen with player input. A successful Ethiopia run is really intended as more of a challenge.
@@AleF202 tbf France always somehow loses to Germany so it’s not unreasonable to assume they will do some AI magic on Ethiopia

Brilliant guide. Was bashing my head against a wall until I caved, first try I pushed Italy back and made them sign for peace. Sweet sweet achievement.
Love the new expacs, but I will always been bad for the countries that got focus trees early on and now have tiny ones

I couple of things I noticed as I tried my hand at this. imru Haile Selassie, the original Infantry Specialist, levels up really fast and is really godlike.
Also, by the late 1936, as Italians run out of steam, you can put pretty much any General in the Northern mountains to level up. Put your Hill Fighter there and he gets Adaptable in no time. Wouldn't it be better to use him as a Field Marshal? He'a Adaptable and a Logistic Wizard, what's not to love?
I would love to see an Aussa playthrough. As I find it quite funny that such a tiny country is such a beast.

Can't wait to see more By Blood Alone content from you! Btw, personally I feel like in the north with Macalle it's better to hold the riverline, instead of opening up to many directions of attack. For harder paths like the anarchy path it's really hard to hold due to the lack of good buffs

From my Ethiopia play through, if you hold Macalle, then Italy won’t annex Aussa. This allows you to hold the line with only 2 tiles on the front.

Holding the hills slightly further east of your southern line forces the Italians to stand in desert and gives you a good angle to attack the center tile from, which you can then use to encircle the units on the northern tile and inflict massive casualties and chaos on the Italians in Somalia. Also it will provoke them to attack slightly more often, which is a boon for the general you picked since he gets the Scavenger trait from a Focus. Add that to the Logistics Spirit you can get for free and Scavenging Tactics and unless you're very unlucky in real life you'll be gaining guns every time the Italians fail to take your tiles.
I also don't bother training new units with my strategy because you have enough to pull it off by bringing the one commander out of retirement. I instead stall to get the extra research stuff while keeping things primed for ~1938 when I start doing the Focuses that improve the Mekwanint's control, because in the early stage of the war you want the Mesafint's defense bonus more.
Edit: I also stack debuffs to enemy air with leaders like Empress Asfaw because, y'know. You have no possible way to not fight under red air.

Just finished my Aussa run. 2 hours of digging in and repelling italian charges until ww2. Fun though

I used this guide, was all good, but I didn't watch end of this guide and stayed in war with italy too long, had to wait until axis was defeated. I am not great player. Will try again tho!
That was a close one, almost lost Aussa on 14 of July in 1936 because evryone decided to walk away from it out of teh blue

Nevermind, it's good. Now you can't take the city of Aussia but just defend the tiles below it and you should be good. (1937)
Update: taking eritea was easy but Somalia was basically impossible, can't do it
Final update: Best to just make peace with the Italians when you get eritea. Don't risk it with Somalia.

Thanks for the guide but at around early and mid 1937 (twice) I made a third army at the northern border and the Italian divisions retreated to Eritrea, is that normal AI behavior?
