Hearts of Iron IV is a grand strategy wargame developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive. Released on June 6, 2016, it is the sequel to Hearts of Iron III and part of the Hearts of Iron series of grand strategy games focusing on World War II. The player may take control of any nation in the world in either 1936 or 1939 and lead them to victory or defeat against other countries.

6:10 You've generally got it right. AI strictly uses battle plans for land units (it also gets extremely messy 'cuz they field way too many armies), and in a situation like what Italy's in they're not gonna want to go on aggressive assault (too much defensive terrain to contend with for the amount of units and tech they have) which means units will never move forward in such a way as to jeopardize their flanks if they can help it.
When I say "field way too many armies" btw, I just mean they organize their divisions in an incredibly inefficient way, going so far as to assign only 1-4 divisions to an army, resulting in an exceptionally high amount of "armies" that often are leaderless. Although in late game they do end up fielding monstrous armies.

@@phoenixwright7802 I think it's because the AI can't comprehend separating army orders (the AI seems to only be able to handle one order per army) so every order they make must use an entirely new army. As a consequence, they also tend to not make army groups unless they can jam several full-sized armies onto a single frontline (e.g., Operation Barbarossa).
I tried this strategy step by step and they had pushed into both of these tiles by february 8th tho so i don't understand how this works

@Rotten I don't wanna put words in this guy's mouth but that's probably what he means. Technically, it would be possible but realistically it wouldn't be unless you are a physcopath.

@@anonymoususer8180 Its more like 2-3k, 6k was his overall 2 years ago so its probably around 10k now. Recently he has been playing other stuff, since I am sure playing just the USSR gets boring.

Only way they can patch it is by making the AI smarter, which in the 6 years of this game has never been achieved.

I dont think so. They deliberately made this focus tree as it is, so it is a fun little mini game in-game ;)

Actually managed to hold the line without "Keeping the Chitet" so I could ditch the conscription law. Didn't even need the bonuses for swinging to the left. Maybe my Italy was just really dumb.
Been using Taureor's strat for Ethiopia, will have to give this one a go
New patch droped today did some changes to war contribution; IC damage got nerfed 20%. Landlease got buffed a bit. Taking & occupying territory got buffed as well. Probably forgot something. Did you guys take a look at it yet? Cheers!

I think going for the chitet is only good if u wanna do a short term campaign because at max u can get like 48 divisions, but expanding the mehal sefari is much better if u wanna do a long term campaign because you can actually edit the divisions.
I dont understand the "unknown" casualties either, in my one game as USA i had a failed naval invasion get attacked by u-boats at sea and the infantry lost their naval escort and presumably died at sea bc they never landed but never came back and it showed an equal number of losses as "unknown" so perhaps it was Italians who died of attrition at sea before the invasion?
I think it's a mix of attrition, accidents and stuff like that which is not directly from combat. Could also be partially from occupation resistance.

This doesn't work as of 07/08/2023, they will now cross the river gap.
If you want the planning bonus without the ai moving your divisions, make a plan to defend Switzerland.

fun fact, as italy, if you let one single tile undefended in somalia, the ethiopian ai will push for that tile, but then stop and not do anything else

Nah, sorry but this time I have to disagree with you. There are FAR easier way to win as Ethiopia without totally disrupting your country. With your strategy you'll find yourself too weak to then be a significant part of any faction you decide to go to war with. Yes, going with the Mesafints will strengthen your army, but at the same time will TOTALLY destroy any economy you currently have or plan to have. Once you go too left or too right, it's hard to rebalance the power, and you'll only be able to do that by doing the decision that basically cancels your stability. Sorry, but this strategy is a total L for both free gaming and achievements hunt
your strat doesn't work, tried it 7 times doing exactly the same thing you did, italy kept breaking through the south no matter how many divisions i put there
