I love his music of Gene Cotton, wish he'd had more hits.
Back when music was great...
2022 and still rockin this one. Thanks for the music,Mike.
A forgotten gem of a tune. Thank you sir.
Always been a fan. Always thought he and Michael Johnson were underrated. Great writers and singers at a time when music was turning more rhythmic.
One of my all time favorite songs!!!
This is like re-living my childhood...I grew up on K-Tel albums and 45s. To this day, vinyl still sounds the best!
45's ? Not that i know of
Spring of 1978, & I loved this one .--------------never----------ever---------tire of this. ---------------------------WolfSky9, 74 y/o
I saw Gene in Montreat North Carolina at a Youth Conference. Sometime around 1980. I remember listening to the songs and the stories thinking to myself, how cool would that be to paly the guitar and sing for a living. From there I would be introduced to John Paul Walters, David LaMotte and David Wilcox. Who have influenced me to pick up the guitar and start playing. I've been playing for about 30 years. I paly with my church praise band and love every minute of it. I owe it to Gene, John Paul, David and David. God gave me the ability to sing and paly for Him. I don't know who will see this or even read it but I prayer is that it will inspire someone to reach for their dreams. Thanks, Chris
I grew up listening to the Radio....L A was the Place .... Just Growing Up in California. This Song is Just like being Home back in the 70s
A 70's classic, for sure. I have this 45, & today it plays just as good as it did then. ---------------------MJL, 75 y/o
Gene Cotton performed this on American Bandstand on the 2/18/78 episode which also had Aretha Franklin.
Gene still lives nearby and is truly a decent guy. Look him up to learn about things he's involved in -- and check out his other rarities on YT
Gene was the man....
I'm remember this one from the 70's I'm 52 now and love this music 🎶🎶
Always liked this one
Thank goodness for K-Tel and Music Mike for giving us these forgotten gems.
Lyrics to this song, oh goodness,
So beautiful
Don't let my Heart know that you're Leaving
Sigh!!!!
SOUNDS SO MUCH LIKE JOHN FORD cOLEY AND England dAN .....GREAT TUNE ;)
Always loved this one.
😎😎😎 Gene Cotton Fué uno de mis cantantes favoritos. . .aún lo escucho y no lo he olvidado !!!!
1978 was one of my favorite years in music. This is so pretty and I have not heard it in years. Thank you for this music Mike.
I have that album as well…this was when music was based on talent alone…oh how I miss those days !!!
K-Tel rocks!
Always loved this song and arrangement. Totally 70s vibe. Thank you.
NOTHING LIKE KTEL RECORDS AND MY COLLECTIONS HAS 310 OF THEM CURRENTLY IN MY COLLECTION.
Awesome I grew up listening to k tel and ronco records iam just.starting to collect them myself finding most of them at thrift stores I hope I can find as many as you have in your collection
American Bandstand brought me here.
OH I REMEMBER THIS ONE !LATE 1978 ! WHAT A SONG TALENTED. ARTIST ! HURT A LITTLE TO HEAR IT BACK THEN , SHES GONE NOW ! BUT I STILL HAVE THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG !!😔
Greatest year ever!! So many memories. This is one of them.
I had that K-Tel collection "Hot Ones" with this wonderful tune by Gene and other awesome songs! Take me back to summer of 78! out of school and having fun!!
Carouselgal, I had "The Hot Ones", too! That's how I first heard this song. I also liked "Living Next Door to Alice" by Smokie and "We'll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again" by England Dan and John Ford Coley. "Let's All Chant" by Michael Zager and "Flashlight" by Parliament/Funkadelic were fun and funky, too.
K-Tel had the best albums...brings back memories!
Gene has long been a favorite. As a teen in the late 60's, I first found him writing and singing contemporary gospel music. I have a Heartwarming records LP entitled "Peace" that I still love to listen to
I had recently passed the CPA exam around this time, was working day and night and never heard this song until 2017.
1977; Gene's first record after leaving ABC for Ariola America. "Like a Sunday in Salem" was the B-side and also got some airplay. "You Got Me Runnin"" was my favorite of his.
I love this whole album
I loved this song as a little boy in 1978 and love it still.
I got an email from Gene Cotton while chasing up an order from him which was nice.
Both Gene Cotton and Music Mike are some of the greatest.
Best KTel album, I had it! Gene was very talented!
Wow, I haven't heard this record in years.
Thanks Music Mike!! This Gene Cotton song is rarely heard anymore, as is any of his music. Thanks for dusting off this 1978 gem and giving it a spin.
awesome song- many thanks for posting this- i remember hearing this song as a kid on the hot ones 8 track- brought back memories!
Vinyl lives on today, 2019 ! ---------------------I LOVED this song when it came out, & I still do today. -----------------WolfSky9, 72 y/o
Don't remember ever hearing this song on the radio and I lived in area with many pop radio stations (Los Angeles). I was too obsessed trying to find a station playing "You Belong To Me" by Carly in 1978.
Got some play on KHJ, and others, then used to be in the rotation on KRTH. You probably heard it, but not often enough for it to sink in. I didn't remember the title or artist, but by the end of the first line I remembered the girl I was dating at the time . . .or, rather, who I HAD been dating, until just before they started playing it.
Just subscribed to your channel Mike. I so remember this song. I was graduating high school in '78 and this song got heavy air play on both AM/FM radio. However, I always thought this was an England Dan and John Ford Coley song.
❤❤❤
Love it! Just, one, of a plethora of hits, penned by Randy Goodrum.
A name that most of us in the business know very well but others, not so much.
I had this one!
Saw Gene do a solo show in a park in St. Cloud MN in the mid 80's, I wore out the "Save the Dancer" album this song is from.
Good one Mike.
Thanks for another great one Music Mike
Thanks for posting this Music Mike.....Just a great tune from a wonderful time !
My favorite Gene Cotton song is "Me And the Elephant"...do you remember it, Mike?
His music reminds me of Lobo
Thank you for posting, Music Mike! I've been trying to remember the name of this song for years. I loved it back in the 70s and still do.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Blue toothing MUSIC MIKE while working in the yard--highly recommended!
Awesome!
Ahh KTEL Records every hit made on-one long playing album....😅
Hi mick hope you are well and OK what a great tune the only fault with K-tel is it used to say on the back cover to ensure the highest quality some of the times of the times of the tracks as originally released have been changed or something like that
Creme de la creme if yacht rock.
Elephant song is great.....not on radio
