Fun fact: Robyn is the only HK chef to be affected by the Last Black Jacket Curse TWICE. She was the first victim of it in Season 10, then had it happen again on All-Stars. It was almost the only thing on All-Stars she didn’t redeem herself on.
And what’s weird is, you could make the case that Milly could’ve gone that episode over her. He had a major crash-and-burn that episode, as well as a heel turn due to being a massive jerk during the punishment and when he was put in the bottom against Robyn. But, since Milly is the Boston Rob of HK, and Ramsay’s favorite chef he’s never crowned if not his favorite across the entire franchise, there’s no way Ramsay would let him go there. And it’s a shame Robyn didn’t make it to the next round, since while I don’t think she would’ve won, she could’ve pulled a Scott Commings and done well while running the pass.

Robyn also in my top ten worst black jacket ever! Milly could have an crash and burn that episode because he randomly become asshole in that episode and it was an interesting heel turn after his yelling at the poor guy in season 14 about a Mexican chef been better, but not having a job because their Mexican!

    • @heymistercarter.
      @heymistercarter. Před 10 měsíci +10

@@lastdayonearthmysteryman4849 I mentioned Scott Commings in terms of how Robyn’s pass run could’ve gone, had she made it there (note, COULD’VE, not WOULD’VE). I think people tend to forget that Scott had a VERY rough HK run. He was nominated SEVEN times, the most of any winner (the next most is Christina MacHamer on Season 4, with 5 bottoms). And some say he lucked his way into the black jackets due to Gabriel’s mid-service chop, lucked past being the first black jacket to be eliminated due to Kashia’s crash-and-burn meltdown, and even lucked into the Top 4 pass run after Joy’s rage quit. Many remember him as a strong winner years later, but had he not made it to that episode, he would’ve likely been on Worst Black Jackets lists too. So if he made it past as many hurdles as he did and still made a great pass leader, it’s not out of the question that Robyn could’ve too.

One more, less prominent curse to include is the Eleventh Place Curse. There have been quite a few instances where the chef who gets eliminated at 11th Place has some strange circumstances around their elimination. Examples include:
Early Frontrunners who had a downward spiral or sudden snipe-out: Hassan on Season 15, Koop on Season 16, Gizzy on Season 18, Syann on Season 19, Keanu/Keona on Season 20, and to a lesser extent Ileana on Season 21 (Gizzy, Keanu/Keona, and Ileana being Cook-For-Your-Life boots)
Major player on the season who was medically evacuated or quit: Larry on Season 2 (first med-evac on the show too!), Vanessa on Season 4, Steve on Season 13, Bret on Season 14
Failed Leaders: Coi on Season 5, Scott on Season 7, Patrick on Season 10
Other bizarre circumstances: Jim on Season 6 (eliminated without nomination or plea), Barret on Season 11 (double elimination with Amanda), Ralph on Season 12 (thrown in the bottom by Gabriel against team nominations to save himself and then eliminated anyway)

Well, we can add Melissa to the names in HK that are cursed as this season's Melissa had a shocking downfall, which makes her the last of the Melissa's to have a brutal end to their HK runs. Kevin is a pretty cursed name in HK, as 2 of them have been ejected and Kevin Cottle was featured in this video already while also underperforming drastically in RvV.

Melissa sabotaged herself so stupidly, allowed her anger to get the best of her and Ramsay saw her shut down. She had the potential to black jackets but screwed it up.

So now we have 3 Melissa’s so far who didn’t even make it to Black Jacket:
Melissa(season 3) - Started off well as a front runner for 3 episodes but started to decline halfway and even with her 1 last chance on the blue team she still crashed and burn leading up to the first automatic elimination without a plea.
Melissa(season 8) - Crashed and burn in her run on the red team and lasted only 1 dinner service on the blue team and still was terrible.
Melissa(season 22) - Started out good in the first episode getting a 4 on her signature dish. Then 2 episodes later after lying to Christina about the confetti, this would be her heel turn. Got upset because her team wouldn’t back her up. Well she got to use her punishment pass the next episode but in episode 5(spoilers if you haven’t already seen it) she got really pissed that her team lost another challenge and she simply started to care less about being a team player. Dinner service she was quite as a mouse and barely showed any interest in helping her team out and sadly got eliminated after the red team lost dinner service. Also the shortest time in Hell’s Kitchen after using the punishment pass and she wasn’t even given another chance by being moved over to the blue team like the other Melissas those pass seasons.

Cheyenne and Steve would easily be my first picks if we got another All Stars season. They deserve another chance, especially with Cheyenne's injury ultimately causing her downfall, and both of them being Imo some of the best personalities in modern HK.

    • @margarethmichelina5146
      @margarethmichelina5146 Před 10 měsíci +2

For Cheyenne, yeah the reward totally messed her up and even worse, it could give brain damage or concussions.
For Steve, he starts to lose his Mojo in mid Season because of him being salty to Brynn who swap his place because of Punishment Pass even though he did the same thing to Brynn earlier. He was so salty, he refused to communicate with his team! Even so, his winning chance is getting stolen by Trenton who usually being the quiet guy who later rise and shine since mid season and even very unstoppable in Black Jacket rounds even it also makes Kiya totally jealous of him.

I've found another curse recently: since season 17 (when they began to make thematic seasons), the winner of Hell's Kitchen ALWAYS came from the losing team in the signature dish challenge.
Season 17 (All-Stars): The blue team won the challenge and the winner was Michelle (and she was supposed to end up 3rd)
Season 18 (Rookies vs Veterans): The rookies won the signature dish challenge but the winner was Ariel from the veterans team
Season 19 (Las Vegas): The men won that challenge and the finale was between 2 females (I don't need to say much)
Season 20 (Young Guns): The red team dominated early in the season in both challenges and services (and that includes the signature dish challenge) and, in the end, Trenton ended a 7 seasons streak of female winners
Season 21 (Battle of the Ages): The 20 something won the challenge, and in the end, Alex became the first over-40 winner of Hell's Kitchen
And now in season 22 (American Dream), the women won the challenge, I wonder if the winner will end up being one of the men
Edit: Guess what? Season 22 ends up a 2-men finale

I never understood why Chef Ramsay was so hard on Ben Walanka (Season 5). The guy always seemed like he was giving it his all. Still, seeing as he was brought back as a guest competitor in one service of Season 9 and as a contestant in Season 17 (albeit first boot), I tend to think Ramsay played up the intensity in Season 5 for the cameras to make Ben fit more of a character archetype.

I've noticed that (and it might be editing the confessionals) that some chefs who say that they have birthed/parented a large amount of children, therefore they can handle Chef Ramsay. They proceed to crash and burn. Polly from season 2, and Dominic from season 4 come to mind, and as well they were the first boots. I wonder if they are tempting fate by comparing Gordon Ramsay to a child.

    Spoiler alert from recent season:
The other curse name in Hell's Kitchen but this time is for the female: Melissa.
Melissa Season 3: Started out as decent chef, only going to be cuckoo in the mid competition with crazy hair. Also, sabotage the Red team with that infamous duck breast.
Melissa Season 8: Overcooking dozens of fillets and fishes in 2 different services. And remember, this is the least talented season ever.
Melissa Season 22: At first we thought she would be the front runner of the season since she got Punishment Pass but then she used it earlier then last episode she refused to communicate with everybody on her team even going shut down and dissapear on dinner service and relying to her teammate Sammi to take charge on garnish. Then, boom! She got eliminated in the same episode.
    Don't forget Kevin.
2 Kevins got brutally ejected mid service: Season 15 & Season 20.
Well, Kevin from Season 6 & 18 is the same person but he lost his energy as he used to and just doesn't wanna be there in general.
So, moral of the story, if you want to go to Hell's Kitchen, make sure your name isn't Josh, Ben, Andrew, Kevin or Melissa.

Jason Underwood (S4), Jason "J" Maxwell (S5), Jason Ellis (S7), Jason "Jay" Santos (S7), Jason Zepaltas (S9, S12) all didn't win.
Granted, Zepaltas, Santos, and Ellis got to black Jacket.
I am now waiting to see whether Jason Hedin (S22) will win or not.
Based on the edit though up to episode 5, not really likely.

You know, I've noticed a bizarre pattern from Season 1 - 16. Contestants who ranked at the place corresponding to the season they were in were either memorable for at least one bad thing or had an awful event happen to them after their time on Hell's Kitchen.
    Season 1 - Winner - Michael Wray
Divorced and lost his infant daughter 5 years after his season, and was homeless for awhile.
    Season 2 - Runner-up - Virginia Dalbeck
Worst runner-up we've had so far.
    Season 3 - 3rd place - Jen Yemola
    Served pasta from the bin.
    Season 4 - 4th place - Jen Gavin
Returned for Rookies vs. Veterans, only to be ejected during the 2nd service.
    Season 5 - 5th place - Robert Hesse
    Hospitalized.
    Season 6 - 6th place - Van Hurd
The only one to date to be eliminated after Ramsay's nomination in two different seasons (S6 & All-Stars)
    Season 7 - 7th place - Nilka Hendricks
    Ejected during service.
    Season 8 - 8th place - Rob McCue
    Lost his brother in 2017.
    Season 9 - 9th place - Jamie Gregorich
Eliminated in a brutal fashion and without nomination. Did not come back for the final dinner service.
    Season 10 - 10th place - Royce Wagner
Ralph's employee who failed to live up to his precedessor's legacy.
    Season 11 - 11th place - Barret Beyer
Is one of the first two contestants to be eliminated in a double elimination. Did not come back for the final dinner service.
    Season 12 - 12th place - Jessica Vogel
Was homeless before Hell's Kitchen. First to be eliminated in the Cook for your life challenge. Passed away in 2018 due to ulcerative colitis.
    Season 14 - 14th place - Monique Booker
Stood out to this talented cast like a sore thumb.
    Season 15 - 15th place - Meese Davis
Wasted a huge portion of Wellingtons during the 2nd service. Eliminated after being nominated three times in a row.
    Season 16 - 16th place - Jessica Boynton
    Eliminated after self-nomination.
Ironically, the only season from the first 16 seasons that didn't fall under this pattern was Season 13, but we all know 13 is like an unlucky number, which made it all more ironic that it didn't fall under the pattern.
