- Moza Racing has just announced their latest product and its not just a wheel base, a wheel rim or a pedal set. It is in fact an entire Sim racing kit of everything you need to be racing. This new bundle from Moza is called the R5 Racing Simulator and it includes a Direct Drive wheel base with 5.5 newton meters of power. All of this for under $600
In this video Shaun Cole of The Simpit puts this racing system through the torture test to see if it can handle the rigors of heavy sim racing. By the end you will know everything you need to know about this great sim racing package.

Moza has updated firmware to be able to use other wheels with this R5. They also now sell a brake mod for the brake pedal for a more realistic feel. So, since this review Moza has updated some things to make this kit even better. Bang for the buck, this is an outstanding kit.
I just got this bundle, I can tell you a lot of the negatives have been fixed. It's a great wheel and I felt like I dodged a bullet by not going the Fanatec starter route.
Very excited about this! Moza swooping in right now couldn't have been timed better for me.
Wonderful product from Moza as usual I'm really exited for more Moza products
Nice review. Great to see competition in the lower end DD market at last.
I just ordered for my first setup. Can’t wait!
As usual great review Shaun :)
Awesome content man!!! Thank you very much. ❤
DD for the masses, great bundle.
never thought i would be in a position where i could afford to change eco systems but i think this might do it if build quality is up there
Great review, I bought the Moza SRP pedals and I can't combine them with this base because the pack comes complete, it's a bit frustrating...I would have to buy the whole pack and have two pedalboards...
Great video, thanks for taking the time to go through it with so much depth. I have a question which I don't think you addressed in your review - I will be mounting the R5 directly on my desk without a clamp, so I will be drilling holes in the desk to screw in M6 bolts from under the desk into the wheelbase. My question is, so i can buy the correct length screws for the job - what is the maximum depth an M6 bolt can screw into the R5 wheelbase housing? My desk is 22mm thick so I will need an M6 screw of that size plus whatever the R5 mounting hole needs. Thanks in advance!
Moza is coming out the gate guns blazing. For an entry level kit. This is the one to get. The SR lite pedals can be upgraded to the SRP pedals. You can upgrade the wheel with any other from Mozas line up. The r5 is compatible with their dashboard. And if the motor happens to be the same as the r9. Sell an upgraded power supply to get more FFB. Entry level equipment with the ability to upgrade.
Thank you, when you remove the steering wheel, do you press it anywhere or do you pull it straight out?
Do we have any info on that other formula style rim (without LCD)
Is the steering wheel from the R5 bundle, compatible with the R9 base?
Super
One bad thing is this set is going to make it hard for someone who forgot about selling their Thrustmaster gear after updating a while back.😔 😃
If you could add the load cell brake pedal to that kit I would have purchased it last night. Instead I'll wait and decide whether to buy a r9 cs wheel and srp pedals or this bundle and a different set of pedals
You can get a load cell brake kit it’s cheap from Moza
Does anyone know if I'd have to pay any import tax if I buy directly from their website and have it shipped to the US? I ask this because some of the local resellers do not have everything I need from moza.
Mic audio has a lot of background reflective echo. Might think of hanging up a blanket or two on non visible walls or using a lapel mic.
Hi everyone,i am thinking to buy a direct drive wheel system.
1.Moza r5 bundle with sr-p lite break kit and f1 wheel mod.
2.Fanatec CSL DD (5nm) with mclaren gt3 v2 ,quick release adapter.
What do you prefer?
I heard that the r5 has some heating issues and in f1 game when you are cornering it loses some force feedback details.
I am so much confused what to buy actually
Drop your suggestions
Thank you!
I found the 5NM quite weak, And I'm not that big or strong! I settled on the R9 and it seems to be the one for me.
the thing is fanatec cant keep things in stock and sells out in an hour due to low quantity of stock so you CANT buy things that aren't there so its pretty much the moza R5 or thrustmaster GT 2
Moza blows fanatec out of the water in many areas.
Any word on Xbox or PS5 support in the future
Will it still work with other moza wheels?
was Shaun wearing a wolverhampton wanderers shirt?
The clutch is only like $30 btw!
Shawn, compared to Thrustmaster TS-XW base and wheel, which is better?
I'm not Shawn, but, for what it's worth, I'll put my hat in. I have used a Fanatec CSW V2 for the last 6 years. I recently used a CSL DD, I was blown away with the subtle surface detail that I was missing (despite my CSW V2 having more peak torque at 7.3nm vs the CSL DD's 5nm).
It's all in the wheel rotation speed (which is far more important than torque for conveying the moment of onset of oversteer) and lack of dampening (which inherently magnifies all subtle details).
All of that to say: there is no contest. The Moza is a vast improvement in pretty much every regard. Smaller package, better build quality. Better quick release system. Better FFB. Better reliability and build quality (something with which Thrustmaster has historically struggled, especially in the long-term durability department). I've used the T300 and other Thrustmaster bases, and the *ONLY* remaining reason to consider them is because you are either dead set on their ecosystem or you have to have console compatability--at which point, I would simply encourage you to save up for a Fanatec CSL DD. 🤷♂️
@@flyingphoenix113 Thanks. Having been in sims for a long time (yes I still have my Saitek R440 neatly packaged in the box), then G25, to Thrustmaster, I may seriously consider buying this. Now to get an adapter cord for my TH-8 shifter.
@@waltwalker8117 Your TH8A shifter should have the cord that you need to connect it directly to the PC with it, so no need to buy one. I own this shifter myself and the connector was included in the package 👍
And yet T300 is so much better than G27. Amazing how much lvls of quality there are...
Can you use american 110V in the power supply?
Yes you can
What’s the rig?
Moza need to get console support
Is it possible to run a set of thrustmaster load cell pedals with this wheel base?
They're usb compatible, do you can connect those pedals directly to your pc. So yeah
CSL DD (5NM) $349.95
CSL Pedals $79.95
CSL BMW $139.95
CSL Table clamp $29.95
Total $599.80.
Yup, well over $600 no matter how cheap I optioned the gear.
I'm not saying the CSL DD is better or worse, just pointing out there is a simliarly priced Fanatec option...
(Provided Fanatec can build the damn wheelbases. LOL)
Fanatec will never sell the 5NM again.
Chealest price is 500 for 8nm
+$100 for their cluncky metal quick release
@@dcu21 indeed fanatec is trash. Only reason to use it is when u play on consoles. If u play pc only dont go to them
But not Stock
these are $100 off at Microcenter right now...$499
How much stronger is it vs the T300?
why is everyone saying fanatic, when its very clearly fana tec, and its only americans :)
I say it the same way that Thomas Jackermeier, the CEO of Fanatec says it. He pronounces it as "Fanatic". If anyone knows how the name of the company should be pronounced, it's him.
PS, I'm also an American.
@@wwjnz9263 Fair enough I'll let you all off then lol Cheers pal
@@designamk1160 So I have been informed, ty
It's not under 600 though. Misleading
