- Moza Racing has done it again with yet another wheel base. THe new base, The R12, produces 12 newton meters of power and is now right in teh middle of the power range of the Moza lineup. Is 12 newton meters the optimal amount of power for sim racing? Is this the only base we really need?
Shaun Cole of The Simpit tells you everything that you need to know about the R12 wheelbase in this review.

I've been out sim racing for many many many years. Just getting back into it now. Where's Daren? Where's Jessica?
Jessica left almost 10years ago. And he had a fallen out with Darren
He works for sim-motion. When I was shopping for Moza R5, he contacted me.
I like the new intro Shawn and very nicely done review of the R12. I may have to get one.
Thanks 👍
How is the quality of the force feedback against simagic alpha? Still Better simagic?
On the topic of strength-I just got my first dd setup a couple weeks ago (a 15 Nm Simagic Alpha) and my first impression is that 15 Nm is a bit overkill. It's a ton of power. At 100% I can hardly turn it. I'm already turning it down to the 50-60% range and still needing to wear gloves because it's just too much. This 12-15 Nm range should give all the power you could ever want with plenty of headroom.
Do you think that a 12nm base with a small lightweight rim could give me some sensation of wrestling with a car?
Is it enough to give me a workout?
Depending how strong you are, but I believe an average guy would probably be very tired after about 2 hours of racing.
I only see the “PC only” as a negative for Moza themselves, as they would probably sell more if it was console compatible. But for me as a (pc) customer it’s a huge plus, I don’t have to pay for compabilities I don’t need. I don’t get rims with PS or Xbox specific buttons.
Plenty of r12 vs r9 videos out there. You should really do an r12 vs r16 video
Hi everyone. I’m currently using a 10 year old G27 but need to upgrade obviously. I exclusively irace and mostly run dirt so I don’t need the wheel with all the buttons/knobs/dials etc. can I use an aftermarket wheel on the R12? Would I have to buy a quick release since I will only utilize 1 wheel? Thanks
I remember sombody saying that high force feedback is useful for 90s F1 cars, because the force centers the wheel.
Shawn, could you try driving those on 12nm? And compare to higher force wheelbases.
id wish they would release a r21/16 v2, so you can use the ES wheel on them. I have 2 of them and would like to upgrade to the r21, but dont want to spend another 600€+ just for 2 wheels.
How hot does the R9 get using it at 100% the whole time? I’ve heard many users have overheating issues and loosing ffb.
i would love some more comparing to the R16. Everybody compares R12 to R9. But compare to R16 is way more intresting because its a different product, not just 4nm extra
I have my R12 running!! Hearing some abnormal noise ☹️ does anyone know if it’s normal?? I had the R9 before and never had any noise…
What cockpit are you using??
having console compatibility will jack up the price due to licensing issues, when they release both pc/console base and pc only base price between 2 will be night and day and production will be more complicated. imho
What has been your experience with unexpected disconnects? I have had both the R-9 and the R-12 and they both go through infuriating bouts of complete disconnections from the game (both iRacing and Assetto Corsa). I’ll hear that dreaded Window double-tone and then the wheel goes limp.
Have you noticed that practically no CZcamsr makes comparisons between different brands?
I understand that there is commercial interest in this, if you choose one over the other, you will be overlooked by the company you pass over.
And they never (without exception) talk about the true weaknesses of each DD, when they talk only about the strength of the DD, the lack of compatibility with consoles, they don't talk, for example, that practically all of them, when they heat up, reduce the strength of the DD to preserve the engine. And they always say that the base they are testing never cuts power.
If you take items for free you say same things in review :D
There are literally "vs" youtube videos. What are you talking about? The R12 is mostly compared to R9 and Alpha Mini. And they all praise the mini.
Is the r16 v2 worth the extra money over the r12? Anyone have an idea
You're right, lots of console racers would buy this even with a bit higher price for the console maker's licensing fees. Do you think Moza wheelbases will come to consoles anytime soon or ever?
They make the R3, which is for consoles....maybe its just Xbox though, not sure.
Anyone think I would have a problem using the R12 or even the R9 on the old GT Omega Pro chassis? Currently using the T300rs and believe this is the wheel setup I want to move to next.
The Omega is a pretty sturdy beast, I think you'll be okay. Probably pretty close to the threshold though...
@@Steadymobbin711 yea I’ve had the cockpit for 7 years now, it’s served me well but because it was discontinued well before DD wheels became much more easily attainable and popular I’m worried it wouldn’t hold up but I think I’ll give it a go
@@kalvinfilarski6460 report back if you remember!
Does anyone know if they were to eventually implement console compatibility would it come via software update or would they have to release new wheelbases?
I would assume it a software issue not a hardware issue thats keeping moza from consoles. Imo tho you will need the r12 or something with ports for pedals, shifter, and handbrake that can all plug into the base directly. As you can only plug in a wheel/accessories through 1 usb port on your console. So it will need to have the pprts on the base for all desired equipment. If i remember correctly the r5 and r9 do not have these standalone ports. Atleast not in the same sense the new r12 seems to have.
Many people don't know, there are licensing fees for console compatibility witch is holding companies like moza, simagic, ect back from going that route
It’s already compatible with a third party adapter.
As long as my 2 T300s and Alcanterra wheel rim and F1 wheel rim work no need to upgrade yet eh!
I have a T300 and im in the mindset of upgrading to R12 or R16.
Does the R12 & R9 mount the same way?
Yes
Do you think this too powerful for a Next Level F-GT rig?
My R5 @60% is plenty strong. It's bullshit marketing if you need more. Unless you are competitive and need more detail (not strength), R5 is for 99% gamers. R3 just released for Xbox and it's 3.9 N-M.
your statement is pretty bullshit about the marketing.
It also comes down to wheels you use, heavier or larger diameter wheels will feel much weaker on a weaker base, people are differently strong. Some want a feel as close to real as possible, like formula cars have no powersteering. stronger wheel has stronger detail to transfer to user, has an extra room to grow into if you find you want more later. I am going for the R12 for versatility and longevity as well as affordability. I am pretty sure you will want more power down the line and have to buy again. I use Thrustmaster T300 now and at about 2.8Nm peak, it feels way too weak to me. Cant feel much detail and info to catch slides and feel confident in the car. That is about the strength you are using.
Moza r12 or simagic Alpha mini?.😢😢😢😢😢
That's my situation too. Did you make a decision?
@@user-uj3tb2sc7vthe r12 is better in my opinion. Although the alpha mini does give 12 or 13 nm at times, you must be pushing it to its limit everytime to be having that torque peak consistently. I went with the R12 and keep it at 9nm all the time. Should extend its lifespan.
King is Cammus 15nm base
It shouldn’t take much to at least get Xbox compatibility since they will allow compatibility with just a steering wheel with the chip and not have to make a new base.
I play mines on my Xbox One S
Moza R12 or R16? hmmmmmm
the fact that this is PC only is a big PRO not con , consoles sux , a lot of games was ruined coz of childish consoles , so thank you MOZA for deliberately ignoring the childish consoles. Imagine a mamas boy who barely holds his controler in his poor hands sits behind R12 it would breake his poor hands .. People this is a man's world not a sissy
who hurt you?
I'm going Fanatec it just seems like a better product and Eco system
why? it got less nm
