Why Kenny Pickett WORRIES the NFL

- Kenny Pickett may be the scariest prospect in the 2022 NFL Draft - but what is scarier about him - his good size and perfect arm to thrash opposing defenses - or the risk of drafting a player with little lady hands and inconsistent timing?

Whoâs watching this after the Steelers drafted him
Me.
Makes no sense why but interesting the same. Pickett being the only 1st round QB picked, lol. So much for his thoughts, he was spot on saying the Steelers would pick him if available.

Me ⊠but first time he gets strip sacked itll be mayhem here in steelers county memes for days
I gotta get this out of my system. The "low ceiling" thing is so weird. In the NFL, about 95% of QB success is based on accuracy, throwing on time, and pocket awareness. You don't have to have a rocket arm. You don't have to run a 4.5. You have to read, react, and get the ball out on time with accuracy. Pickett does those things. Willis, Corral, and Ridder all struggle with reading defenses and throwing with accuracy under pressure. Howell comes the closest, imo, but I think KP is the clear QB1 this year and I think he'll be very successful as a pro.
once he beats ol Mitch out of a job
Thank you. The greatest QB of all time, Tom Brady does not have possess any of those physical traits yet and still look at his resume.
Have you been paying attention at all to the last five years of qbs? So many more guys with the raw talent have developed at the pro level and become starting qbs than guys who were "pro ready". The NFL is changing, top level qbs have more effect on the game than ever. You cannot teach athleticism, but you can teach someone to read a defense.
@@fryenchill2817 Yet Matthew Stafford and Joe Burrow still were in the SB. Neither of those guys possess that âraw talentâ. You got your Josh Allenâs, Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jacksonâs but you also have guys like Trey Lance or Jordan Love who both yet to hit the field because they are still raw. Itâs a learning curve.
All you have to do is look at the QBs in the HOF right now, and it's pretty obvious that having a monster arm doesn't matter much. Almost all of the "big arm talent" guys flame out, because they never develop other skills around it. The host also said Pickett has "inconsistent timing" when Pitt almost exclusively ran timing routes this year (as the Steelers also will) and Kenny completed 67% of those throws... even though he only had 1 NFL level talent out there to throw to.
The Steelers missed on Dan Marino, so they weren't going to let the next great Pitt QB pass by. They also have watched him a great deal as they share practice fields.
This kid is gonna suck. Already looks sketchy in OTAs
Dude you look like u never even played pop Warner what do u know
I donât know why we judge these guys until they play some games in the NFL. So many amazing college QBs went bust in the NFL. We all know where Tom Brady was drafted and he is now the best to ever play. All I know is this guy is a Pittsburgh Steeler now and well.. that makes him my QB on Sundays and Iâll have his back until he isnât! HERE WE GO!!!!đ€đđ
FACTS!
If he ends up being a bust?!! Is He still going to be your quarterback and have his back? Or are you going to be demanding his release?!
Exactly ESPN thinks we made a mistake thatâs there opinion and r they coaches or scouts no Pickett is going to be a monster Go Steelers!!!
Johnny Manziel was the BIGGEST BUST EVER !!!
@@moiacevedo8904 if he ends up being the next HOF QB for our team will you be jumping on this wagon? All Iâm saying is why jump to hate on him? He hasnât shown anyone he canât do it so why choose to think that? Bottom line is we donât know so as a fan he will be my guy until he isnât under center anymore. I actually live in Cincinnati and see bandwagon fans daily so if I wanted to jump on a wagon Iâd jump on Burrows. Iâm a Steelers fan and that means I ride or die with with who we have đ€đđ
Congratulations to Kenny Pickett on getting drafted by The Pittsburgh Steelers.
Inconsistent timing? Did you actually watch Pitt last year? Nearly our entire offense was timing routes, and... ya know... Kenny completed 67% of those throws. And he only had 1 NFL level talent running those routes. Also, worrying about Pickett being a one year wonder is wild considering all of the other QBs in this draft were 0 year wonders. At least Kenny has proven he can be great. A guy like Willis hasn't even proven he can competently run a HS offense that is completely built around his skillset... even playing against far inferior talent compared to Pickett in the ACC.
I've been watching some of the highlights from his games and I'm wondering how no other QB needy team picked him. What more do you want in a prospect? He looks the part of a first Rd QB to me
@@Sneakycat1971 I have a theory that if KP had played in the Peach Bowl and had won it that his draft stock would have been top 5. Please note I have little to nothing to base this on but its a hunch.
And he went down the street to Heinz Field with the Steelers.
You never know. Joe Burrow was below average at Ohio St., and had to transfer to get playing time then blossomed. I would like to see Pittsburgh get him.
Joe burrow barely played at osu
@@Antbeast23 that's the point. He went from not being good enough to play at Ohio St. or he would have started. His true talent was able to develop until he left.

Dudeeeeeeeeđ„đ„đ„đđŸ
Way to much emphasis on him being 24. When I hear this being touted as such a scary proposition it tells me that you are trying to find something negative to say about a player. Bottom line is KP is a football player. Coming from a pro-style offense at PITT and his ability to read and react to defenses along with being a solid athlete that can scramble and deliver on the run! KP is a Pittsburgh Steeler.... HERE WE GO!!!
Joe Burrow was drafted at age 24. Itâs really an unnecessary criteria.
@@graysonbrown9778 wouldn't you prefer a guy with more experience anyways? It could almost be seen as a positive. If their career is long enough those 2 years older make a difference then you got a great QB and wouldn't worry. Such a stupid criticism
@@exiledrabbit yes itâs better they are more mature, less prone to interceptions, knows the Steelers and the weathering, has speed and can throw dimes. He is going to be good this video makes no sense
Joe Burrow turned 24 his rookie year. Malik Willis will be 23 and Matt Corral is 23. He's a year older than a typical senior. Most QBs sit for a year like Mahomes. All this is nonsense because Pickett will start from day 1!
Right, and Willis is like 23, right? Sooo much younger!
Justin Herbert spent four years in college and was well seasoned for it. Hence his ability to jump right in when Tyrod Taylor was injured.
Herbert also has a top 3 arm in the league. Pickett will have a bottom 3 arm. You can tell heâs putting his all into his throws and his wide receivers often have to decelerate to make the catch. NFL corners are gonna have a field day with him
@@jalan6270 Jay Cutler also had a top 3 arm talent and where is he now? Your point is irrelevant.
@@jasonbradley9236 That has nothing to do with this point lmao heâs comparing Pickett to Herbert and I brought up the difference. Which is arm talent. Your point is moot. Have a great day
â@@jalan6270 It quite literally does lmao. You're stating Herbert's arm talent is what makes him 'different' from Pickett even though they have had similar college careers. I then brought up Jay Cutler because apparently 'arm talent' is the deciding factor between the two., who again had a similar college career and rocket for an arm but failed in the NFL. I guess 'corners had a field day,' with Montana also because he had a terrible arm strength. What a trash QB smh.....lmao. 'YoUr PoInT iS mOoT' lmao....sad.
@@jasonbradley9236 We arenât comparing Cutler and Herbert you doof. You brought Cutler up for nothing. The original comment was about Herbert and Pickett. Go home, youâre tired.
He's been throwing dimes most of his 4 years playing (yes, I said 4. His first year of eligibility, he blew a redshirt on a helmet technicality and only played a few games) but his WRs led the nation (or near the top) in dropped passes until his last year. I don't think he'll be a superstar, but I think he'll stick around in the league for many years.
Also no running game whatsoever his so-jr years and by no running game I mean historically bad. OL was also terrible as well, but did improve to average his SR year. Dropped passes, no TE either until his Sr year which is why he had to scramble to where the WRs are. Also got hurt and had to play injured some games.
I want my panthers to take him I think heâs our franchise guy
@@YoungDisciple90 sorry, they passed on him - Steelers got lucky.
@@mikejohnson3338 yea bro they did I wanted him bad Iâll check him out see how he progresses I think he will be special but I feel like we got a top tackle so I guess weâre going to try n reevaluate Sam or either Scott Fitty got something else up his sleeve
Heâll be an Ryan Fitzpatrick! We should took a chance on Malik cuz we already got stud quarterbackâs!
Well. Turns out heâs in Pittsburgh
Malik Willis throwing '21 stats: 2,813 yards, 27 td's, 12 int's, 61.1% completion on 339 attempts. Sacked 52 times
Kenny Pickett throwing '21 stats: 4,318 yards, 42 td's, 7 int's, 67.2% completion on 497 attempts. Sacked 29 times
I don't get why so many people were/are higher on Willis than Pickett. Do throwing stats get ignored during qb evaluation in favor of opinions and/or rushing stats?
Wow, you called it.
Forgot the part where Peyton Manning stayed till he was 24. He was also the one that told Pickett to run another year up !
The NFL ball is bigger. And fun fact⊠Vickâs ball security was terrible lol⊠he had 98 fumbles even though his division had great weather. The hands thing is real. But being 24 and a project is the biggest concern.
lol a project? he's the most nfl starter ready qb in this draft
You have to admire a college athlete that stays to earn his degree. That's why college graduates get ahead in life. At least you won't find his super bowl ring on Pawn Stars for sale....
You know you can finish your degree after the league and you donât need a degree if youâre making millions but I do understand where youâre coming from though

wow... good call,son.
I donât get your notion that heâs so far from being ready to play? Compared to the majority of QBs coming out these days, heâs been way more pro ready. If you look at advanced statistics, heâs been among the best against the blitz and in the red zone of any QB coming out in the past handful of years. Those things usually translate very well in the league. The ceiling thing is fine, but again, I think weâve gotten away from guys who are quarterbacks, weâre looking for freaks only. I get it, you hit on one, itâs huge, but thereâs something to be said about a guy who gets the game naturally from a mental standpoint
Everyone gets glued to the big arm, run first type QB. Which Willis is. But people forget, the shelf life of those QBs aren't impressive. Willis passing game needs a ton of work. But he also comes with a big bust potential as well. See Tim Tebow, the Geno Smith, Jeff George... A lot of hype, but big busts.
I think Pickett is amazing passer, great a reading the defense, quick decisions, accurate and mobile. That type of QB tends to be more value that gets over looked a ton, but wins more. Age? Who cares!! Browns just dumped a fortune on a 26yr old QB to be the next decade guy. And let's not forget Tom Brady.
The other qbs have potential, but during college came up short in big games, or lost when they shouldn't have. See VA tech and Sam Howell.
Weâll said thatâs why I want him at 6 Iâm a lil nervous but drafting a qb is always a gamble but my panthers need to get him at 6
Willis can't read a defense at all. He has bust written all over him. But yes, run first guys typically are overrated and overhyped.
"run first type QB" Wrong everyone is interested in the type of play Mahomes provides, pass first while having the ability to scramble and improvise if needed.
This is exactly why Bryce Young will be a top 5 next year. Because the man is an elite distributor and he gotten better scrambling when he needs to but we will see if he can put it together for an entire year.
Him or Willis will be the story of the draft
Who's Willis
@@Rationalist101 Malik Willis
They will be the story of this draft in the future. Everyone will be mocked for putting them on the same level, when at the end of their careers Kenny is a Super Bowl champion, and Willis never even got a second contract. If you couldn't learn how to be a QB in HS and college, there's no chance you're suddenly going to learn against the best talent in the world. Willis played inferior talent, in a system that was built around him, and still couldn't match Kenny's numbers.
QBs play a lot longer than other positions. A decade playing in the NFL is good. He'd only be 35 if he retired then
We'll start seeing QBs play into their 40s often. Hit rules aren't the same as 15 years ago.
He's 23 rite now.... 24 when season starts...... so 24 plus 10..... is 34
If he falls into the second round then that would be great. He would be more atracttive as a second round pick.
not quite
@@mikejohnson3338 lol...this didn't agr well...lol
As a Pitt season ticket holder Iâve seen Pickett live several times and the kid is tough as nails and there will no shortage of effort and think he can be successful
Saying Burrow's season blows Pickett out of the water needs context. Burrow was playing with two pro bowl WRs, an excellent RB, a very good oline and a great defense to put him in favorable field position. Pickett....had Addison and not much else.
Actually the Bengals had a horrible offensive line joe borrow was sacked 9 times against the Titans in the playoffs, but you are right about the pro bowl receivers and running back.
SMALL HANDS MEAN NOTHING. YALL DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT RUNNING BACK HANDS
Two different positions and needs for large hands. Pickett also had a fumble problem, so your argument is moot.
@@jalan6270 okay you clearly know nothing of football. Nice to see you reply though!
@@devn266 lmao how did you come to that conclusion? You need bigger hands as a QB for grip and spin on the ball. You clearly donât know about being a QB. Hand size is important whether you want to admit it or not. And like I said, Pickett had a fumbling problem, which we could probably credit his smaller hands for causing.
@@jalan6270 Would it be fair to say KP has worked on his fumbling problem since he only had 6 of his 38 career fumbles in 2021?
@@vegastjg yea, thatâs fair but he was the most experienced player on the field his last year. The NFL is a different animal. The competition is faster and the hot harder. They also have better technique when trying to cause turnovers
I think quarterback might be the only position I dont mind being drafted at the age of 24. With the added protections and greater importance of knowledge over skills its not worrisome that a quarterback is 24 years old.
Pickett fumbled a shit ton in college. Those baby hands of his are a valid and serious issue, and people are really taking it too lightly instead of the other way around.
Looks like you are putting too much into it without looking at the entire picture while yes the fact is he had 38 total fumbles but only 6 happened last year so he's clearly been working on ball protection
Kenny gonna shock the NFL
Because his hands are smaller than most? We knew that already
Im on the Malik Willis Bandwagon sorry, because of his higher ceiling you know lol
The Steelers are pulling the greatest trick in NFL history, and that's having everyone including the so-called NFL experts, Steeler haters and the Steeler fans believe that: #1. The Steelers was gonna draft Malik Willis, but instead drafted Kenny Pickett.
#2. Kenny Pickett played football in Pittsburgh so he's use to playing in the cold weather,
And #3. He already knows Matt Canada's Offensive system, cause Matt Canada recruited him when he was the O.C. at Pitt right before he left for Maryland..Boy!!!..the Steelers are gonna surprise everyone this season đđ€Łđ

Welcome to the NFL more like it.
The age is no big deal Staubach was older returning from navy duty.
You can tell the people who only started watching the NFL in the modern era, and never look back. The fact of the matter is that 100% of HOF QBs spent multiple years in college, and the vast majority of the guys who came out early were out of the league after their rookie deal. He lists Jordan Love in the video, and guess what? His career is just about over. He MIGHT get one more lower level contract, but that's it.

I think the "24 yo rookie" thing is way overblown. Covid wasn't Kenny Pickett's fault, and frankly the last Pittsburgh guy to do something amazing at that age, Big Ben, was the YOUNGEST superbowl winning QB in NFL history. Plenty of solid QBs have hit their stride in their mid-late 20s. Peyton Manning and Drew Brees, arguably the leagueâs two best quarterbacks in their day, each won his only Super Bowl at 30. Brady was 30 when he threw for an NFL-record 50 touchdowns. The kid has time. Let him ride the pine for a few weeks, maybe Trubiskey gets hurt and bam... we are back at 2004 all over again.
