    My husband and I did plywood flooring at our ranch in the country. So many people said we were crazy.. they have been installed seven years ago and they look fantastic. I love the natural wear and tear here and there because it’s a country environment, so it really fits in.

    Nice idea, the different colors of stain. I'm not sure fan of the cherry (never have been), but I like the darker ones, especially. I saw a diamond pattern done with the plywood, and I think the multiple colors of stain with the diamond pattern would be fanfreakingtastic for my kitchen floor! Thanks for the idea!

I purchased it this way and would like to renovate it but your idea above is the answer because of the hardiness and the durability and the cost. Great video! Looks great! How is it holding up (scratches, dings, etc.)? What kind of wood is the plywood? What is the plywood thickness? How do you keep dirt from getting into the cracks in between the boards? If you spill water or a drink on the floor, how do you prevent the water from seeping in between the cracks between the boards? Won't the water go in between and underneath the boards and ruin your OSB underlayment? Thanks, so much.

      That's sanded plywood 1/4 , 3/8 or 15/32 i used 15/32. you don't have to worry about crack or spilled water the urethane takes care of that. Just keep the all the planks EXACTLY the same width and butted tightly together. put at least four thin coats of urethane letting it completely dry between coats. no problems, 2 years and 2 kids spilling everything you can think of.

    Good idea however I would consider the longevity of plywood as the surface finish laminate is probably 2 mm thick this is the only downside of this idea which immediately sprang to mind, the possibility of a hard varnish top coat would help overcome this weakness......still 10 out of 10 for effort 🇬🇧💪🇬🇧💪🇬🇧

I am obsessed with your work here and you have inspired me to do exactly what you have done in this video. I bought a fixer upper 2300 SF home that needs a lot of work and this is a very cost-effective way of putting new flooring in compared to faux flooring. I am sanding down Southern Yellow Pine ( I have a 2300+ SF house to cover) so I am making due with cheaper plywood, and learned if I first sand it with a 100 grit then apply a coat of sanding sealer, then sand with a finer grit, I can stain it with the stains ( I just had to copy you on the colors LOL- BEAUTIFUL, then apply appropriately the polyurethane for flooring coats, it should turn out just fine. Did it turn out being smooth or is it a rough finish? I did not hear you say that you standed the coat after you put it on. And do you know if plywood drinks and expands after it has been milled and sat for awhile? I'm thinking about doing this in my camper

    • @redneckryan
      @redneckryan  Před 2 lety +1

      It came out alittle textured, it feels nice on bare feet. Not smooth like a basketball floor but not abrasive either. No I did not sand anything after the stain was applied. Plywood will have considerably less expansion and contraction than solid hard wood because the wood grain goes in diffrent directions in each layer. I think it would be great in a camper! Good luck and let me know how it turns out!
