I got a lot of feedback from the unboxing of the MA Audio COM 1 “Command Center”. I made two videos so I could attempt to get more info about this massive amplifier. CZcams commenters came through, mainly previous dealers of MA talking about this piece being showcase pieces when you bought other MA Audio gear. Makes sense, but MA not showing it off to the masses did not make sense!!
Let’s hook this amp up to the Dyno, try out those channels, then take a closer look at the internals. Is it as impressive on the inside as out? Only one way to find out...

I've got a pioneer gm-a200 I would love to send you so you can do a test on it. I'm sure it's very rare as I cannot even find info on it so I have no idea how to hook it up unfortunately.
@@brandidan-the-car-man3521 I just googled it. All kind of info. From the mid 80's
Have you ever tested a crossfire 1000d? I have one and it's in excellent shape I just wonder what they did as far as ratings on the dyno.
@@michaelhollon5332 yeah I've spent hours today looking up info on it. Really interested to know if it's one of pioneers first car amplifiers. It was made in 84. So I'm kinda nervous to hook it up and test it honestly.
Big D. You might want to have that amp checked. As it was a promotional product where MA wanted to show case their abilities and the 4 channel was highly underrated, I wonder if there is something going on electronically on the sub side. Just a thought.
I really dont see how anyone could gove this guy any thumbs down his vids are always good and always quite helpful
They have their reasons I guess 🤷♂️
Best CA channel on CZcams.. Thanks Wiz for all you do for us classic audio guys.🍻🍻
Thanks brother 😊🤙
I ran the hk2000 and hk12's for a minute years ago. Honestly I miss it . The subs were ribbed like the new gold letter kickers.
I can't say anything bad about my experience.
Ty sir for sharing 👍🤞
I love the oldschool intro .never get tired of punch amps on display.they have come a long way with quality products
Thanks for watching and commenting!
What a beauty, that aluminum brushed look is my favorite in old school amps.
Such a beautiful amp. I owned a 1500.1 looked exactly the same, omg i loved it
I wish the VU meters were bigger and the sub side was more beefy. Still a rare, unique and beautiful amp I'll probably never sell
@1:53 I still have an MA2601HX, always wished I had a pair to strap, but never managed to get another one. Thanks for the overall page view BigDWiz, kind of funny seeing the MSRP of these. Not bad amps, I was always into MA Audio, but nothing special either, I always felt mine never quite did rated power, still, it held up running 0.5-ohm just fine. I loved the look of these amps, just beautiful.
The eq is the coolest part!
its actually very nice, 1 amp that does everything on pretty high volumes... (jack of all trades)
I thought MA Audio went out of business. I had they subs in the early 2000's, hit hard too
I had the mono 1200 back in 02, running 3 MA dvc's....half the price of RF or MTX and i loved it..
I had the MA audio 4400 watt RMS class x amplifier in high school and that is the most powerful amplifier to date I've ever had I really wish they were still in business
I always liked all the products you you do all the time on CZcams is a lot of different things that you do and you know it say I do like everything that you do your tests are accurate and enjoy every minute
Still watching the add but man I know it's gonna be a good one! 👍
Jesus, Big D, the cool factor on this amp is through the roof. I remember back in the day getting into car audio I was always struck by MA audio equipment because they posted the craziest numbers for wattage for all of their equipment. Ended up with 2 12" ALUMQs on an Audiobahn HCT2300 for my first system. Man I miss that system. People shit on those old school companies but like most of em at one point they made great equipment.
👌😬🤙
Definitely looks pretty sweet. And VU meters?!?! Yeeaaahhh boii!!
Loved my old soma audio amps friend had this one and I had the hk4400hk that pushed 2 or 4 15s that was a monster of a amp at that time
I think there was something wrong with the sub side. Either that or MA cheaped-out since this was supposedly a promo item. Contrary to what most are posting here, during the particular years MA was making this line, their products were no slouch and they did rated. Granted, they did rated at 14.4 or higher, but they always performed. They made a 1200w monoblock version of this amp. My guess is that's what internals were on the sub side of the amp.
I ran 1.5 ohms on a HC1500? and it quit
What a BEAST!!!!
Love your videos!!
Thanks!
Big D! Dont make me wait too long for that Savard demo please.
Get the Savard subs, you won't regret it.....
This app looks nice, my friend had some of these amps in his camaro. Here in the UK, I will have to dig up the magazine, but it was from about 2k4 (2004)......
That would be cool, please share if you find the pics. Email me bigdwiz (at) gmail dot com
It's still pretty sweet, I would love to us something like that for a home theater setup. Should give them a dollar pr watt rating and compare today's dollar to then.
It's still a sweet looking amp ,and the built in EQ is a plus just to push your highs
I think this will be best to mount on a display so people can play with all of the adjustment knobs. It is a great lesson to see how frequency adjustment affects sound
Damnit brother that thing is a BEAST!!! WHOULD THAT BE A SQ OR A SPL AMPLIFIER!
Got 2 of these in closet right now....not in as good cosmetic shape missing the handles and coner caps but they do work!
Pretty rare amp brother 🤙
Even though it didn't come close to rated it's still a jem, and 1400 watts dynamically is definitely good power. Thanks D
I agree, I'm not sad, not mad
I remember these amps had on myself...not the command center but the smaller one with the same handles
Even though it didn't do rated on the sub channels I believe this is one of the coolest Amps made 😜😜😜😜🎾😝😝😝😝💪💪
Thats nuts
Whether or not it was done intentionally, placing capacitors directly in the airflow of a fan is a good idea. The cooler you keep those capacitors, the longer they'll last.
I see it all the time where electronics manufacturers place capacitors right next to high heat dissipating components, like right up against hot heatsinks or power resistors. Guess what fails first? You guessed it, the capacitors!
Don't know how I don't get notifications from you but I fixed that issue. There were a couple of them I missed out tons on. Dang CZcams.
I never tought MA audio was not up there with big boys like Rockford F, Orion, etc. They had this gorgeous model Nichole though.
Absolutely...they spent all of their marketing $$ on her instead of the product. Oh well love and learn
KILLER FIND!!! BET YOU PAID PRETTY MUCH THE GOING RATE, WITH A RARE FIND. LOVE to catch a find like the old Fosgate 600watt (?) Amp. I don't need elaborate, just need CLEAN. I'm goi n with JBL's in the doors, & 2 15" CTS in a cab below read seat F150 supercrew. 208 watt/4 channel Sony bluetooth/cd/fm. Will provide alt. Amp for subs controlled by Sony head. Stock (or close to it) appearance. You keep it longer that way. Lol. Nice vid, but too many teasers. More meat please... 😎
This video was released on my birthday.
I want one. Just for the looks haven't even made it to the dyno yet
Looks like a few of the caps had leaked. That could explain the issue. (Dark stuff on the board next to the base of a few of the caps not under the fan).
That's glue.
I spotted that and in another area as well. I was no MA fanboy but this era of amps from them were workhorses.
The stereo output was very good, more than i expected.
Then the sub test was kind of what i was expecting from mobile authority.
On the bright side at least the heatsink is full unlike the low end of mobile authority.
yes, plenty of heatsink for cooling!
Damn, I badly want to help a friend of mine find a new amplifier, just in case....because I would love to see you dyno his MA Audio "400" Watts RMS @ 4 ohm amp. I say "400" Watts, because it has been modded, massively. And it has been modded since about 2002-2003 not long after he had bought it brand new. It still runs BEAUTIFULLY to this day, hooked up at 1 ohm. He won several sound competitions in our area, even when he was in classes above his pay grade, so to speak. His total cost for his entire setup was about $2,500.00-$3,000.00 for speakers, stereo, amp. and subs and box. He beat a kid that had nearly $15,000.00 total in his system at one point. MA Audio built some surprising equipment, and their 400 Watt RMS amp was super easy to modify and took to it extremely well.
Awesome 👏
I use to have MA Audio 12s running on 2 Soundstream ref 1000s they were freaking loud.
I thought this amp was going to pack a lot of watts but now I know why a lot dealers would say to stay away from ma audio.good video big d
Watts up yo 😊
I have a ma audio 1286i amp every time I connect it and power it up it blows all the fuses in the amp I took it to a shop to get it diagnosed they quoted me at 200 dollars for the repair they said ma audio was junk and to stay away from ma audio I have never heard a ma audio amp I allways wondered if they were any good
I’ve always had a soft spot for MA. I dont know why. Maybe it gives some sub conscious nostalgia.
Big D is a producer now 👍🏻
Just need two turntables an a microphone
Isn't there a toggle switch for 2ch vs. 4ch? Still a gorgeous amp though
Wow, was looking so promising at first! LOL!
Love that slap knock-out clip. He got knocked the $%#@ out !
Not sure if it was mentioned in the plethora of comments but some MA audio amps were rated at 18v, is the COM 1 one of them?
I used to have two 15-in MTX thunder 9500 dual voice coil 2 ohm subs in a 6 cubic foot box push by an MA audio amp that I can't remember the model number of. Nothing I have ever seen not at the competition level it is hard as that. My pickup I had it in had to have three or four frame repairs because it would beat the rivets out.
The one my boss had put out a lot of power it also looked different inside more caps and different colored board if I remember right
That would look good in a ol Impala!
Yessir!!
Well, at least the packing was superb! This would be something to mount on the wall as a piece of “art” and a great conversation starter. Nice job finding this rare piece Big D!
Could you purchase a JBL Basspro hub and the Cerwin Vega VPAS12st and do a review and sound quality comparison etc? Thanks so much.
Something seems a little off on the 2 channel mode. But it is a very nice amp
have you ever tested any of the HK MA audio amps I'm running MA audio right now and love them!
No sir
I had a ma audio hk 4000. I liked it till voltage dropped low and it flamed up. Got a visonik 4000d I believe it's the same board if I remember but both work betton 16vplt
Fans definitely need replaced. Maybe when you figure out whats wrong with that one channel. You can bring it back to the dyno and see if the results improve. The sub side should have done its ratings and some. Other than that a very impressive amp. Almost looks like dj equipment.
Agree. Just made a comment about this. Was sponsored back in the day with all MA Gear. With steady voltage at 14.4, they easily gave you rated. MA Gear in this particular era was quite good actually. Popular at competitions in my area.
The one channel with the issue was on the 4ch side, not either of the 2 sub channels. It appears the sub channels were overrated and it was obvious to me the 1 ohm 2500 watt rating could not be true as 1/2 ohm stereo said 900x2. That should equate to 1800 watts at 1 ohm mono.
Do you still have this amp? Interested in selling it?
With all those knobs are you sure you had the gain right ? Hard to believe it did so well on one side but not even half on the other
If you adjust the knobs too much you open a portal to hell.
I'm not to surprised at the subwoofer rating levels. Back in 2002 there were all kinds of Flea Market brands coming out big from Audiobahn, Ma Audio, Visonik, UltraLinear, Thump!. Just to name a few. I tried them all and some products were good others were obviously weak and way overrated. Lol
I went ahead and did a full Audiobahn system install this year on my truck mainly for Nostalgia purposes and i gotta say their products still sound good for being so old. Just sad to see them and all the other brands i mentioned above all went of business. Lol
Any info on the clarion adp4000 hx series amplifier??
still love the amp
You and me both 👌
Big D, I was wondering if you ever tested the Gravity Warzone 3000 RMS monoblock amplifier? Can you tell me if it's a hit or miss.
The visual alone redeems that amp.
I agree!
when are we going to see a rockford fosgate power 650 on the dyno?
I would like to know, for sure, the reason the sub side didn't perform.
All for show!!!!
Dats fo sho
Big D is this a high current amp ?
Can it run on 17 or 18 volts??
Can you explain the breaking resistor thing?
I worked for a MA AUDIO/AUDIOBAHN direct dealer in Massachusetts for a few years around the turn of this century. We also sold Ultimate Audio, DHD, KOHLER, & Fultron/Memphis Audio. I had a few talks with these companies directly about some of their designs. I also spoke with Alma Bates.... Personally I compeated in USAC AUDIO DRAGS w/ a 88' FORD RANGER SUPERCAB using a MA HC 4002 AMP, 4 15" DVC 6ohm MA subs, 3 caps, 3 batteries and a 3-disc Jensen head unit. 152-153dB consistently in drag competition with this setup was nothing to sneeze at. The 35c/36c output chips where the same as used in top amps by SOUNDSTREAM and the TI TL494 Chipped unregulated power supply was tried&true reliable. The HC series of MA AUDIO amps were not junk, I wish I still had that amp today.... 😎😎😎
Cool video Big D. I don't ever recall seeing that big ole amp in any of the magazines from back in the day. Considering that I have an MA amp at the house that has a bad potentiometer in it(didn't realize it until after the fact that I had repaired the power supply section and put it all back together 😡)... hopefully that is all that's wrong with your amp. Don't know if that amp has the same type(brand) of potentiometers...but the one that I have to replace is very crappy. ✌
It could be as simple as the pot 👈😜
@@wal
Yeah...hopefully it is. Forgot to mention that I also had a Punch 100.2 where one channel was doing rated power and the other channel wasn't. It too had a bad potentiometer.
I had an ma audio hc4002 that I bought from ubid.com back in 2003 I believe I bought it for 160 bucks and dam thing was pushing 4 12s it was great
I don't know what the results are going to be with this amp but I had two MA audio 12s and a ma audio amp 4 channel on my mids and highs and on my subs and with an old school pioneer premier head unit with the dolphins and race cars on the screen saver and sold the vehicle it was a 1996 Chevy Blazer but I believe I purchase these subs amp mids and highs in the 2000 error and i know this guy who still has the subs mids and highs amp and the pioneer premier CD player still working in 2020 everything still working fine and the Blazer still putting around banging
Were the bass knob is turned all the way up on the cues
Can you test the amplifier impact hc 550.2 ?
I so want that
I was wondering if there is a good place to get MA amps repaired? I accidentally shorted the outputs on my HK898 years ago and I'd like to get it fixed.
Check with LinearPower.com
wish you could amp dyno the Lanzar Vibe 6000.2..... I think it would do close to 1200 rms at 1 ohm but its only 140 bucks and its a huge amp.
Well packaged, Watched the Sundown tutorial?
I did the tutorial about packing amps 5 years ago...
Yeah they're late to the party, but then again... Their amplifier prices are too. Glad we got Orion.
I would like to see u do vids on Lanzar and hifonics amp
He's done videos on both.
Love it....
That amp is friggin beautiful.
It would still be a great mids and highs amp... if you have the space for it.
Yep, 3 way active setup FTW!
Gotta run the sub side on half a ohm to get any power of it
Good day is it possible for you to check out the irs 2092 board amplifiers from ebay
I knpw you ran the sub-part at 40Hz but why didn't you test it at 1KHz aswell?
Q for me is how did they run it to get the numbers they did?
COuld they have used 1KHz before the CEA2006-standard?
The CEA2006 is being used for sub-amps aswell wich is cheaky as hell IMO. XD
Got three Hk802 and love them, something gotta be wrong with this amp test another one this ant right😭😭😭
I dug an amp out of my shed I forgot I even had but can't find anything on the web about it, it's a Cyclone 1600 watt model number CA-1494, have you come across one of these before, it is made in China so it may be just some off brands that faded like the hair bands but as I remember this thing really slammed but I was young and was happy with anything louder than stock, it only has one 40 amp fuse so from watching your videos it couldn't even come close to 1600 but if you come across one I would like to see it on the dyno.
with only a 40 amp fuse at best it could maybe do 500 watts but a pretty good rule for older amps anyways is add a 0 to the fuse rating.
so a 100 amp fuse would mean it should do 1000+ watts
and if a amp is rated for 1000 watts and has a 150 amp fuse you have a pretty good chance it will do 1500+ watts
I find it so weird that you have to turn it upside down to hook and unhook cables lol.
Could the EQ settings mess up the rating?
I want one
This is more of a display amp for show cars, looks great and huge but lacks the berries
You said it 👍
I used to have on in my 2000 Sebring wired to 1 ohm on a re audio se 10. Paid 250 for it back in 05.
Wow that was a great deal for this UUUGe amp
Even though the company lied its still a beautiful amp and is apart of bass history. The 30ban eq is awsome complete control. Its somewhat impressive however the low power is definitely a turn off and let down
I wonder if you could fit that big is like that in the trucks and SUV is it possible.
Check out this massive sub and amp my boy Dan put together at installit. And I believe they're both audiobahn if I'm not mistaken thanks have a good day keep up the great and amazing content.
I get an older amp falling a little short on rated, old caps and all....but wow. You think there may be an issue on the sub side?
Yep, issue with the ratings 👈😜
@@wal yeaaaaaaboyyyyy. Big ol ouch on MA. I kinda was thinking any problem severe enough to drop output that bad would have manifested itself pretty obviously when you put it to the ol infinity, or even in a power bias between channels. Damn shame for a piece that expensive.
hey, i live in Belize!!! lol and you better Belize that
So U R Gettin’ Belizy everyday 😜
@@wal walk it like i talk it! do you know where in Belize? it's a very small country... I'll guess San pedro, Caye Caulker, Placencia, San Ignacio or Punta Gorda
So the fans are cooling the Caps
That's how it was back then. No DSPs to get all horrible, just churn the dials.
Coulda also swore the later model could run at half ohm loads too
