- Installing the mufflex 4 inch catback exhaust system on my 1985 LS3/T56 swapped Iroc-Z third gen Camaro. After running it on the dyno at street machines nationals I quickly found out I outgrew my single 3 inch exhaust.

Had a buddy running a diesel 4" exhaust on his supercharged LS Sierra... One of the best sounding and cleanest, simplest setups I've heard. Love the look and sound
Goodness gracious bro, what a beautiful machine.
Thank you appreciate that.
Life saver I’m currently I the starting stages of rebuilding my L92 6.2 and was literally spit balling the numbers at the tire and you gave me all the confidence I needed
Throwing it in a 84 z28 ttop
The 6.2 is a awesome platform. With a nice cam and tune they make 450 to the wheel easily.
@@Brandon-LSX I'm not a fan of the two donkey d1cks hanging out the back bumper. good choice on the stealth look.
Sounds great!
Thanks man I'll definitely have to do a update video and try to capture some full Throttle rips.
Both sound great
They do both sound great can't go wrong with magnaflow.
Awesome finally came across a video of this proven exhaust that isn’t 10 years old and 360p lol. Has me even more excited now to throw in on my 408 trans am. Let’s see some WOT pulls and fly bys with this exhaust!
Thanks I remember looking for current videos before I purchase it and there was none lol. Definitely in the works for some wot and fly by this exhaust sounds pretty awesome.
Sounds badass
It definitely has a bark now.
Wow that car is sweet !!!.
Thanks
Much better I must say, I had a Gale Banks system years ago on my 87 IROC and it was dual on one side but performance was great so your system looks and sounds great and you should get the power you want and some awesome 👌🏾
It definitely sounds so much better. In person it has a nice deep rumble.
Sweet car brother! Always loved the 3rd gens. I had a 86 Iroc but sold it last year to a good friend. To many other projects with a wife and kid. Lol. Was going to do a LS2 402 stroker with a 6-speed, and of course the Track-Spec hood louvers. Keep the vids coming. I enjoy seeing what I could’ve had. Lol
Thanks Man appreciate that. Track specs are definitely a must. I'll definitely keep posting some update videos.
wow nice wheels
Sweet car man! Mufflex sounds great I had it on my 96 z28 over 20 years ago but I had the flowmaster 50 series muffler they offered then. I remember it was super deep and had a nice pop to it on deceleration.
Same here man, my LT1 loved that mufflex system especially when I put it on the bottle!
Beast
The new exhaust sounds meaner! I’d like to see ur next dyno sheet.
Btw I notice u have new EVERYTHING underneath that car and looks super clean. Wished mine looked half that good. I got a lot of catching up to do ha.
Thanks Man. Yes it definitely sounds alot meaner. I'll be doing a future dyno run to see what it's putting down with the bigger exhaust hopefully it will be 450+ to the wheels.
looks and sounds incredible man!
Thanks Man ya the sound is hard to capture on video but it's definitely rowdy now.
@@Brandon-LSX oh it sounds it!
What wheels do you have on that thing they are beautiful
@@paulmessinger8819 Rims are XXR 526 18x9
3rd gens should never have pipes sticking out from the back..some like it..some dont..Gm always tucked them up under the car... Nice looking Camaro.. Iv had mine for 30 years now..
Thanks ya its definitely personal preference but I do like it alot better without pipes. Gives it a nice clean look.
Mind the parking lot speed bumps...lmao!
Sounds awesome. I have the same kit but with muffler delete. It is awful, that muffler sounds very nice!
Yeah straight pipe would be to loud for me. I'm a big fan of magnaflow they sounds great.
A tune would unlock more power. The self tuning capabilities of the fitech is cool but custom tuning would really unleash the beast
I agree only bad part is not many people will tune the fitech system. I've had a remote tune done that's about it. I've been trying to learn some to make adjustments but it's definitely alot to figure out.
Mufflex will fit with stock panhard bar. When I bought the kit it came with all ban clamps which is nice cause I've had it in and out of the car many times. Love the 4inch
It will fit bit definitely doesn't leave you much wiggle room. I thought I would miss the dual pipes but I don't. The sounds is amazing and the car looks cleaner with the muffler tucked.
@@Brandon-LSX I agree it's a tight fit but well worth it.
I have a cammed LS1 Ws6 with 3 inch longtubes, ORY y, and Magnaflow catback it sounds so similar!
Nice magnaflow is my favorite sounding exhaust.
@@Brandon-LSX I have some rasp though, kind of a farty sound. Ive been reading about putting high flow cats on either the y pipe or in the I pipe
I love it! I have all the parts to make a custom 4" exhaust over the winter. I can't wait, Sounds soo much better and deeper
Thanks I'm very happy with the sound of it. It's definitely alot deeper and just more aggressive
Your next video needs to be more sound clips! Revs, pulls, fly bys etc. 😁
@@EssMotorsports Already got some in the works. Wait till you hear how nasty this thing sounds.
@@Brandon-LSX I look forward too it! 🤟
Honestly I would have left it like before...but i would have eliminated the muffler all together place a tee to run out the dual pipes and you would get that throaty sound...on my 88 iroc I removed the catalytic and the muffler as well and my 5.7 tpi ROARSSSSS
I have this same exhaust, no muffler at all though. Looking for mufflers now though can't take it straight through anymore lol how 'quite" is this muffler. I know the 4" isn't gonna be tamed to much but what would you compare sound level too inside/outside lol
had the same 4" one on my 00 z28 with spintech muffler
Love this exhaust.
I know its an older video but by anychance you have the part number for the muffler alone? I see they have a magnaflow round and a magnaflow oval. Looks like oval but just want to make sure I get the same one lol it's straight piped now but that's gotten old lol
Where did you get those seats? Been looking for some red stitching buckets. Love the car, new exhaust sounds great btw
Thanks picked them up off market place. I believe you can order similar seats off Amazon if I remember right.
pretty sure you might of chose my exhaust for me. I have a cammed LS1 with a t56 magnum & 9" that I have running good I finally need to figure out its exhaust. Can you tell me what kind of crossmember you use? it seems like all the nice setups use Hooker Blackheart for the exhaust clearance, but it almost looks like you have one of the BMR/UMI ones? I have a BMR T56 crossmember. I bought it when I first started my swap and was too broke for the Hooker and now I'm trying to figure out if it's going to be better before I do exhaust to bite the bullet and get the hooker crossmember and try to sell my BMR piece. If you're using one of the BMR/UMI style ones do you have any issue with exhaust clearance/scraping?
The 4” sounds amazing! Does it drone at all while cruising?
Not at all sounds awesome cruising and wot.
Brandon Im currently building a 421 sbc 11.5 compression in my 86 z28 do you think that the single 4" will effect my bottom end torque?
Real sweet ride brotha..i have a 91 rs camaro with the LT1 on mine.but i can't figure out how to run the power steering pump hoses? Coul you tel me how you ran yours..and also your transmission cable. To the troddlebody.
Thanks. I used the 4th gen factory power steering hoses and had to run 1 adapter
Where dis you get this kit exhaust
Nice car man, always been a fan of the Iroc Z’s! Clearance okay as far as on the road driving and are there any places where it’s hitting the bottom of the car? Also how does that k member do for daily driving
No clearance issues at all everything is tucked up nicely. K member
does great. Handles and drives way better than stock.
@@Brandon-LSX okay thanks
That’s why you run it with the hood open on the dyno
Wow sounds awesome brother 👍 hey I was wondering where did you mount your fitech computer and where is the harness coming out from?
Thanks man I mounted it in stock location under passenger side dash.
@@Brandon-LSX same with the fuse box? Did you run the harness out through the fender or did you cut a hole in the fire wall
I ran the harness through the fender and have the fuse box located by the blower motor.
@@Brandon-LSX really and you had no issues with any of the connections or did you have to extend some? I appreciate the tips man I’m gonna be re doing my setup again and I love how yours came out
@@lsxfirebird5580 No issues at all have over 3500 miles on this setup now. I did add some hard plastic loom on the pinch points or anywhere it could rub on.
That’s one mean Iroc Z!!!
Do you happen to have the part # of the Y pipe?
I also have and LS swap with the speed engineering headers. Thanks in advance..
Thanks I don't have the part number available sorry. It was a couple years ago.
Did you ever dyno it post install? Currious if you gained much.
Why dont you get true duol Exhaust
So was your hawks Y pipe modified previously? Just went to install my 4" hawks exhaust and the Y pipe i have is definitely for a 4th gen so have to buy one thatll get me close. Using a t56 with hooker crossmember
Yes had to modify it slightly. Cut one section and turned it a bit.
Is it long enough to go all the way to the y-pipe? How did you connect it? I don't have cats
I have the hawks off road y pipe installed with speed engineering long tube headers. Had plenty of room to go all the way up.
Why didn’t you run true dual exhaust instead of 1 muffler to one outlet?
It's next to impossible on these 3rd gens and still keep any kind of ground clearance.
Your first run looks more like valve float to me. Usually exhaust wont give an abrupt drop and wave like that
What trans crossmember are u running?
I'm running the hawks max clearance crossmember for the t56.
might put those wheels on my maro🤔
What is the magnaflow number for the muffler?
Can't remember the kit was like 16580 or something like than.
Are those speed engineering headers?
Yes
That thing looks really clean underneath. Is that car from Minnisoda? It can’t be
It actually is from Minnesota. I was shocked myself when I was checking it out to buy. It extremely clean for a Midwest car
Congratulations that’s a near perfect car
Right on thanks.
Hello! I'm digging those wheels! Could you please share some wheel/tire info? Thanks!!
If you would please add part numbers. Thanks a bundle! I'm putting the finishing touches on my 1984 Camaro Z28 Matrix Custom Convertible.
There called xxr 526 rims. If you go on fitment industries there's a good write up on the correct specs to fit. I also have 2 rims brand new in the box that I will be selling if your interested at a discount price I could save you a few bucks.
@@Brandon-LSX Thanks man! I most certainly will do!
Did the car run a little cooler? Sweet car man!
Don't think the exhuast helped it run any cooler but it did unlock about 33 whp and sounds amazing.
What is the dyno ratings now with the new exhaust…..
Street machine is 2 weeks away I'm going to get some updated numbers.
Man I went from 2.25 inch exhaust to 3 inch n my power went down I could feel the difference leaving the muffler shop I regret it
It definitely depends on the setup. Too much exhaust will cause a loss of power if it's not needed. In my case I picked up some hp on the topend.
How much more hp and tq did you make and at what peaks and curves after installing the 4 inch single?
Haven't got it on the dyno yet. Got snowed in last season. Hopefully I can get it on the dyno here soon when the snow melts.
@@Brandon-LSX awesome iroc bro love the way it sounds 👍😁👍!!! I trying to decide to go single 4 inch or true dual 3 with x pipe. I got a cammed 5.3l lm7 t56 lt headers.
@@mackeralkingjr9601 4 inch sounds awesome and still has ground clearance.
@@Brandon-LSX yeah true thank for the response and time bro i appreciate it and have a good one. Again awesome camaro bro!
@@mackeralkingjr9601 Anytime appreciate it.
Did you ever dyno it again to see the difference?
Haven't had a chance yet unfortunately. Hopefully I can get it in before the end of the season. I definitely noticed a difference though.
@@Brandon-LSX hopefully you can. I’m really curious to see. This is the mufflex kit from Hawks right? Mine isn’t ls swapped yet but it’s coming.
@@aguitarhero007 Yee the 4 Inch mufflex from hawks with Magnaflow muffler.
@@Brandon-LSX it looked very similar in the video but did it make your ground clearance an issue? It was hard to tell how much difference between the 3” and 4”.
@@aguitarhero007 Not at all seemed to tuck up just as nice as the 3 inch.
I run a 4" mufflex with a Spin Tack muffler on a 500hp 383. Sounds NASTY.
Selling the old exhaust?
Yes if your local don't want to ship.
@@Brandon-LSX Do you still have the exhaust for sale in MN?
@@danielpritchard4922 Already sold it sorry.
How much was this ?
630 or so but that was pre craziness.
What is the actual part number for the magnaflow muffler?
Don't have the box anymore unfortunately.
@@Brandon-LSX I ended up buying the kit and got it on Tuesday. It fit great now I just have to get a y-pipe made
@@levisouder5777 I love this exhuast sounds so good.
@@levisouder5777 what was the magnaflow part number??
@@larrynunez3384 not sure I just ended up buy the whole Mufflex 4" kit with the magnaflow
4 inch catback is quite overkill for a mild N/A LS.. You would of been better off with a 2.5 inch dual exhaust and an X pipe. Looks clean though!
Thanks man. We'll wouldn't dual 2.5 inch equal 5inch exhaust wouldn't that be overkill lol jk. One thing about these 3rd gens true dual exhaust is a nightmare and leaves you will almost no ground clearance. With how bad the roads are in MN I didn't want to deal with that headache.
😂
You dont have no where near enough power to where you need 4" catback 😂🤣
Well the dyno doesn't lie. I absolutely over powered the single 3 inch exhaust. You've got to remember wheel horse power doesn't matter with exhaust it's crank HP. My engine is making roughly 530-540 crank hp. A single 3 inch can only handle about 370-400hp. That's why I over powered it. A little research could back up it up.
