- Part 1 of 5: A guy got low on Buicks, and just flat out panicked. So, I did the right thing and bought another buick, this one a 1963 Buick Lesabre, sight unseen. Of course, I'll attempt to fire it up, and just drive it home the 100 miles.

I’d have to agree.
There will always be chores to do. But isn’t our education more important, really?

Love my 2015 Buick Regal
Mom had a buick Apollo hatchback when I was a kid. Rode in that thing all my school years. Sweet car when we put the keystone rims on her.
Back in 1968 when I first started driving, a buddy had a (I believe) '65 Sky Lark with that V6. Man I wanted one of those. Ended up getting a Buick many years later '74 Le Sabre. Drove it from Wisconsin to Reno NV with a BAD tie rod end. It shook so bad I could hardly hold the wheel. But quit if I accelerated. So I slowly accelerated to about 90 then hit the brakes and hauled her down to about 40 and started the process over again. Drove like that (white knuckled) for 2,000 miles.
29:30. I've watched almost all of his videos and I have never laughed as hard as when he started dry heaving and said he would rather lay on the rocks. Man that got me. This channel is a little addictive

Thank you!! I always enjoy getting to “hang out” with VGG and getting to watch an old car or anything else a fella finds; and bringing the thunder!!! Seriously thank you and your family for sharing and entertaining a lot of people.
Points. That's what my dad told me they were, back in the 1950s. I think he qualifies as an old-timer. Me, at a mere 70, I'm just a young stud.
I though contacts were something you stuck in your eye balls , I could be wrong but propably not . Points are acumilated when I shop at a perticulr store . Car ignition points are pretty rare these days.
My grandparents are from Germany.
My grandfather was a engineer at Opel and my grandmother's family own a couple of Opel dealerships.
To celebrate their 50th anniversary they decided to tour the United States by car.
They purchased a nearly identical version of this car.
The funny thing is they intended to purchase a Kadett!
They drove all over the United States and put 40k miles on their Buick in six months.
When the returned to Germany the gifted it to my parents who drove it only on long trips and important occasions.
Believe me it was wonderful floating down the highway in air conditioned silence instead of the buzzy sweaty Opel sedan or wagon my parents drove everyday.
They kept up until 1996 when it was rear ended at a stoplight.
I had an opal four-door cadet... We used it as a two-track gocart ....
Really neat find and can't wait for part two. I love your resurrections videos.
Thanks 4 what you do…entertaining me, while educating me as well. Please don’t stop. Blessings.

"What did that do? I don't know. We'll just turn it off." Such a car guy mantra!
Watching this video brought back so many memories. My grandfather had this same car in silver and every summer I would drive with him out to Long Island from NYC. On the speedometer that little arm was a speed alert that you could set at any speed. My grandfather set it on 80 and I will always remember the constant ahhhhhhhhhhh blaring along the way. Grandpa was a leadfoot! When I got older I would tune it up and I still have the timing light, dwell meter and special Allen key tool used to adjust the points. That Wildcat engine was amazing.
I love your videos. Keep them coming Derek!!
Old guy here - I used to use match book covers. Single layer for points. Double layer (folded) for the spark plugs.

Derek, as one of those young adult fellers you’re trying to preach to, I want to say thanks a lot for getting me into cars older than the 80s. Stumbled across your channel while looking for videos on 1963 Buick Le Sabre as my 22 year old son purchase a 2 door post car here in New Zealand a few months ago. The car was imported here from California back in 2015, so we look for videos to watch about these cars.
Thanks for your efforts in making these videos it really Is informative and fun to watch. My 20 year old son is a 3rd year apprentice mechanic and the shop he works at does a lot classic car work as well so we all enjoy watching your content.
Cheers Rick

Derek I’m here to tell you your channel has definitely helped reignite my love for the classics. Always have had love for classic cars, but watching you fix on them is very inspiring to a green horn like myself and many others, I’m sure.
Fighting with that ratchet after turning it over by hand yell”i’m gonna need that again “ had me howling... you my friend have a future in stand- up comedy if the CZcams doesn’t pan out... But with content like this how can it not...Far and away my favourite youtuber.... keep up the good work... and also just wondering why you couldn’t just change the head of the old starter and use the new bendix and armature?? Are they not compatible... i’ve done it many times on the late 70s and 80s models
Me too.
We used to turn the brass ring around in the Bendix and get a couple more months out of it.
As a 17 year old I’m proud to say I’m pretty good at reading plugs , have to be to keep a 25 year old ski running.currently they’re chocolate brown so perfect !
Another great adventure and classic ride, plus plug reading knowledge too. Onward!!
"Stored inside". That looks like it is the case with this one. Most of the ones I go look at these days I wind up asking the seller, "Stored inside of what, a salt mine or a vat of acid, er what? If I touch it will my hand fall off?"
Never goes well after that.
Lol

😊 you are my favorite of all the car and garage shows on CZcams.
So it's late 60s and my family had been in Ontario for a few yrs having moved out from England. My dad had got rid of an old chevy for a 63 LeSabre. Black with red interior. I'm 56 now and live in Scotland. That car is one of my earliest memories. Your videos do more than entertain. Keep going man. Priceless.

Big thanks, appreciate ya!
Bestfriend reccomend this channel awhile back and now ive just been binge watching its been an adventure every episode. Thank you for taking the time to make these.
Absolutely, thank you for subscribing
This is an EXCELLENT video to peruse. Whether you are familiar or not with this channel, this is a good place to start. Derek has his channel signature hat on and he is in a teaching mood and this man has significant knowledge regarding what has become known as "barn finds". What with his own language for entertaining you can learn a thing or two about our mechanical friends, these auto mobiles. Regarding the contacts or points, I am of 66 years experience and I have never heard a mechanic refer to contacts, not even the old when I was young ever used that term in my geography. Normally home mechanics used "feeler gauges" to "set" them rather than a dwell meter. Only GM had the window in the distributor to correctly set dwell while the motor was running. this Buick had a single master cylinder for brakes and a single fuel line from the tank. Those improvements were added into GM production around 67 or 1968. The first pollution device was added in 1963 model year and was called the PCV valve and that was slang for pollution control valve of course. Just a simple one-way valve to attach a vacuum line to the upper crankcase that supposedly increased fuel mileage.
