FORGOTTEN 1963 Buick LeSabre - WILL IT DRIVE 100 Miles Home? (P2)

- Part 2 of 5: Buick 1 Derek 0. The last time I showed up to work on this Buick, I struck out. This time, I'm not taking no for an answer! One way or another I'm going to try to drive this car home 100 miles after it's been off the road for 23 years! Turns out, these starters are not easy to find or fix. Something maybe fire and a large hammer will fix? Also, let's ignore the windshield. You don't need'em. Let's see how this goes - HANG ON!

that old girl brings back memories, when I was 17 I had a 63 buick wildcat drop top with a 445 and boy did she fly. I`m now 68 and the girl I was dating at the time, we eloped in that car. She later became my wife, for 45 years when she passed away 6 years ago. And there isn`t a day goes by that I still don`t think of her.Thank you for the memory.
Chapter 2 please; Why did you elope?
So sorry for your loss. That is a great story though. These old cars have so many reasons we need to keep them going. Thankfully we got the man Derek here helping to save a few of them here and there. I'm 38 and have two kids who I hope are not doing CZcams videos 20 years from now on how to revive a kia that's been sitting for 10 years.
@@jameseastwood4984 Well James that should be almost easy to figure out, I was 18 and she was only 16 and starting to show. Her measurements at that time were 36 24 35, and the 24 figure was rapidly growing, yes she was pregnant. We had it all planned out, I went to her place where she still lived with her dad and stepmother whom she hated. I parked my car about 20 feet away from her upstairs bedroom window, she had everything she was going to take on her bed. She then came outside I opened the trunk which was clean and empty, her younger sister threw her stuff out the window she brought it to me and I packed it into the trunk. Her dad must have noticed the last thing pass by the downstairs window because he came out just as I closed the trunk we bailed into the car and were gone. They had quite a long laneway when I turned onto the road which was a gravel road I looked back and seen her dad coming out the laneway and just laughed his old 1958 Fargo didn`t stand a chance against my 63 Wildcat, well I`m going to cut it off here before it turns into a book thank you for the interest and God bless.

"the frame was saved by an extensive transmission leak" I'm crying...
Brake line not rusted tight due to valve cover leak! Lovin' every minute of it!
if theres no oil under it, theres no oil in it.
In salt country, a slow oil leak makes a great undercoating. Years ago I had an older car in the Midwest with an oil seep from somewhere on the passenger side. Not enough of a leak for the drips to reach the ground but enough to keep the sub frame on that side "as juicy as grandma's meatloaf". That side also had the oil filter mounted horizontally in a place where it was impossible to not spill some dinosaur juice on the sub frame when changing the filter. After 25 years of Midwestern winters the driver's side of the sub frame had cancer but the oil-coated "drinker" side was as solid as new.

Hi Derek,
You have inspired me and my daughter to attempt to bring my 1978 Lincoln Mark V. My dad gave it to me some years ago and I put it in storage. I don’t have your skill level but hopefully it won’t take too much to get the old girl back on the road. I did fill it with non ethanol gas before I parked her. I believe we will definitely start out with a battry with a go handle that is on sale and an oil change. Thank you again for your inspiration. Oh and my daughter absolutely loves your show!!
He's got me out back working on the project I gave up on. The man is a gem.
This Buick series of videos was inspirational. So much so, that when I got the chance to buy a '64 4-door Wildcat, I jumped at the chance and it's now one of my favourite cars of all time. What a cruiser. What an engine. Luckily mine is a "survivor" with only 40K on the clock and nearly all original, so haven't had to revive her like Derek's "le sabré". It's my true goin' to town rig here in London, UK!

I want to see the rear end fixed, coolant system repaired, and the whole thing road safe and roaming the Route 66 again. You have my vote to take this Christine all the way!
How could you not be a fan of early 60's cars. These cars represented the high water mark of the American auto industry, which crested in 1970. After that, "gubmint" regulation began its slow but steady destructive process.

I laughed watching the part when Derek talked about putting in starters. My father had a 64 Chrysler New Yorker that ate starters for lunch. Like to see him fixing on old forgotten cars
I love this old Buick. This is my favorite car you have worked on.
I've never known a guy so lucky when it comes to getting long forgotten old wrecks, not only running and moving again, in a day or two, after decades of being parked up outside and with the minimal amount of new parts thrown at them, but then driving the things home afterwards. Usually, pretty much, without issue, (or brakes)! Makes for great watching though, and the reason why VGG has become one of my favorite you tube channels. There aren't many channels that make me drop whatever I'm doing to watch as soon as a new video is announced.
I waking all these old cars is the equivalent of going to the old folks home at 6am and getting 'em all out of bed.
;{> true story and well written... esp. the 'without issue, {or brakes}... I'm still giggling
Takes a lot of years of effort to get that “Lucky”!!
You gotta work pretty darn hard and have a lifetime of experience for this kinda 'luck'
I don’t think it’s all luck, the guy has a good eye to judge if the car has a good chance to run by inspecting it beforehand and he has the skills to bring it back to working condition.
