This is crazy. The panel will just rust from inside in a few months where open metal was left between "spare" piece and panel. More than that no antirust means were taken at all. The area of rust wasn't so big to torture the whole panel at all...

That my friends was a half-ass fix. He said it was easy, nothing about properly.
Asking the experts with experience a legitimate question to gain knowledge. What could someone at home do differently since there is lots of criticism?. He cut out the rusted part, He removed the backing, Welded on new metal, he sprayed primer, used fiber glass, painted over the new metal. Some are claiming this won't last 6 months. My question is why exactly and how can this be improved? Most people won't have a welder and may just bondo with mesh the missing piece. Any true tips from experts is appreciated.

I'll try to be positive here, some great elements of repair demonstrated.whats not good is the untreated metal rear face or aluminium on top of bare steel- galvanic corrosion. Shame as a pretty good elsewhere.

This was an ok job but who has this sort of equipment in there garage to do this kind of work
First let me say you do have talent . But as and 27 year autobody technician there is room for improvement. First using and stick welder is not ideal. Next how did you prepare the inside of the panel? Have you ever heard of panel bond adhesive. On small patches like this it's best to glue the patch in. Anytime you can avoid welding your better off.
And how long would you say this repair would last? I'd say about 6 to 12 months depending on the weather where you live. I have definitely seen much worse even from legitimate body shops.

This is just a temporary bodge to sell a car, it wont last more that 4-5 months
