You only need bondo glass when there’s an actual hole. Use that in conjunction with the piece of metal bridging material they give you. The fiberglass hairs help the bondo to adhere to the nooks and crannies. After sanding that, top it off with regular bondo. The bondo glass (sometimes called “hair”) is made specifically to provide structure, not finish.
Thank you
LOL I love the amount of Bondo you mix up when you work for 3M Company and don't have to pay for it. Only about 10 times what was needed for that repair.
Man, I was thinking the same thing when he was mixing, that was a shit tonne of filler
Had a dude in my collision class slap 3 inches of body filler into a dented roof. Holy I had never seen so much on there.
I love this video content - its so usefull and helpfull.
Nice
Hello guys, i was following step by step, but painted color is much darker like car color and it is obvious. Of course i bought color by the original code, but i think car color is lighter cause car is old and sun work hard. How to deal with it? Thank you for your advices.
Why apply body filler over the fiber glass filler. Isn't the glass filler enough to do the job?
What about the other side of the fender were the rust came from? Do you remove the rust and seal that as well?
No thats a future bonecode problem
Youll be a grandpa by the time it comes back
Just trade the shit box off after repair
Shoot transmission fluid all over it that will stop it .
@@jordbjor1yeah and get another not so sh*tty sh*tbox to delay the inevitable for a few years. Make sure to take on a $400-$700 a month payment for it as well.
No mention of a rust preventative being applied before the glass filler
I'm so glad there is a mute button to shut out the horrible noise (background music). You would think 3M could do better.
How many little areas can one of these kits take care of?
80 sqr. Inches
One tiny one when 80% of the material is WASTED as shown .. just one
Why do you use Bondo Glass Filler before the Bondo Filler? Do they both do the same thing? Do you need to use the Glass Filler at all?
The Bondo Glass has short pieces of fiberglass in it so I'm assuming it's if you have actual holes. Regular Bondo will kind of "fall into the hole" whereas the Glass will bridge it and give more support (if it's less than 1/2 inch). I think they then use regular Bondo over that because the Glass won't sand as smooth. That's my take. I tend to use the Glass for strength and structure and the regular Bondo for dents.
The glass filler is waterproof where the plastic coat is not. The waterproof coat first seals the pin holes and keeps water from getting to the plastic from behind which would cause it to bubble out in 6 months.
yeah, he does not need the bondo glass.
What about a rust hole the size of your fist that goes all the way through?? I recently bumped into a pile of snow, I didn't realize there was literally nothing under the paint 😂
Best and cheapest thing is to spray insulation foam inside so it has something to stick too then do what the did use fiberglass bondo then fast filler primer and paint if it's some old ass truck you don't care about if it's a new car cut out a panel from a junkyard car and weld it on
That's what the metal wire mesh is for, to bridge the gap and hold the bondo in the hole. Once it dries, sand and you have a new solid surface to work with.
Replace the whole thing with a junkyard piece the same color if you can find it
That is not a hole.
What do you used to remove loose rust pieces from metal?
sanding discs
Or a scraper
A hammer
Your foot
Ketchup
please turn the captions on so those of us that are Deaf can watch too please. thanks
why he dont sand the interior on the fender the paint job is gonna last less 1 year
My wife could’ve done this repair. I don’t think that’s a rust hole, maybe it’s cause Im working with POS vehicles. Nevertheless, nice repair/video.
I dont understand to use of fiberglass putty. And why you dont use first antirust chemical and than base coat? I believe its better for prevent rust... But its only my opinion :-)
Jiří Hobza I have the same question. In a different video they don’t even use a Bondo Glass Filler and go straight to the Bondo Filler.
See video below:
czcams.com/video/-pouJ9Y5_hw/video.html
My understanding is that the Bondo Glass Filler is for holes that are larger than 1/2”, therefore you would use the fiberglass cloth along with the Glass Filler before adding the Bondo Filler. Otherwise, there is no need to use the Glass Filler before adding the Bondo Filler.
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.
Decent but you dont want to spread out the filler. It actually reduces work time. 3M should hire me.
I don't claim to comprehend the chemistry, but this is how it was explained to me: The filler sets with a thermal reaction. So spreading it out allows more heat to dissipate over a larger surface area, versus keeping it in a wad where the heat stays concentrated and accelerates hardening. Either way it does set up quickly. But the lump may set a tad quicker where every second counts.
@@alphaclean3364 you are correct
Yeah that california "rust"
you should have treated the rust with vinegar and water before putting bondo on.
why vineger and water??
@@venitocamelo6704 the properties in vinegar help remove rust
@@MVS_DJGillyGill hey man do you know how long this type of repairs usually last?? i am trying to figure out if it is worthy to do it not by myself but someone else who knows how to do this
venito camelo hey I actually don’t but as long as you use like Bondo metal filler or do Bondo fiberglass and reg gold Bondo it should last for quite sometime ..I’m still learning too and I haven’t done myself but honestly if you have a lot of rust I would do it professional ..if you do worst case you would lose what maybe forty bucks most and your time so worth a try too
music is horrible, and after that fix, rust comes back immediately.
why you clean first then make dirty
Cleaning makes it a lot easier to see the problem area you need to fix. Also, the materials you apply in the fixing process won't adhere if the area isn't clean and dry before you start the project.
@@bobwolf1811 before apply material on ..thats ok..but why clean then use grinder and make dirty again....thats .your way...anyway..thanks
Remember DON'T look behind it in wheelwell for rust right? Do NOT???
