    Thank you so much for this! I actually hate asking for instructions too much in small engine repair shops, etc. I play classical violin and piano, have a Master's degree and used to teach university and I am very humble and unassuming! Really! But "trade smart" people who act like they came out of the womb with 25 years experience in everything can be a bit condescending at times. It saves so much money when one can do things one's self. Thank you!

      Hi Trevor, glad this helped out! These fixes can be very simple. My profession is in technology architecture, and I like to get my hands dirty on the weekends. I figure why not share some of these techniques to help others save some money! Although this particular video was about cleaning a carburetor, you could also decide that you want to install a new one (they're cheap on Amazon). I have another video on that, here: czcams.com/video/kNTUcJ6nOjM/video.html

      How the hell are you humble? You told random strangers of your academic achievements, completely unrelated to the topic. You seem genuinely unbearable. I have never had a negative response from a shop when asking questions. Asking someone how they do their trade is different. Say you were teaching at an academy and a mechanic comes in. He asks you to show him how to play a simple song. Would you not think it strange that this person is asking you to work for free? Don't go to a repair shop and ask them how to do the repair yourself. Ask them about maintenance and they will be happy, otherwise you are asking them to work for free.

    Good video. I just picked up a older craftsman 8.5 hp, 26". Owner said it wouldn't start this year. I smelled the gas tank and it was good but the gas in the carburetor bowl smelled terrible so I removed the carb and cleaned it inside and out. Varnished gas in the bowl and on the float was the hardest to remove.

    • @TractorHoarders

      So I got the carb all cleaned up, reinstalled it and tried to start it. No gas getting into the carb. Removed it again and found that the needle valve was getting stuck in the fuel inlet office. Cleaned the orfice and it got it running however, now found that the 2nd stage, auger shaft is moving in and out 1.5" and the transmission is making a lot of noise and the auger blades are seized to the auger shaft. Guess that the transmission is shot. At least the motor and other parts are compatible with my old Estate/Noma, 8.5 x 26.

      It took a couple tries. The stores out here don't have carburetor cleaner in a can with a parts cage. So, i had to spray the carburetor liberally, and use some wire to work out any chunks. It sat in a sealed container for a few days to allow the cleaner time to sit. Whatever it did, it worked! My snowblower runs better than the day i bought it! 😃

    I watched this and it was helpful. When I took the carb off I decided just to replace it so I ordered one, received it and was ready to install it. But now my biggest problem is getting that friggin choke bracket off of the old carb so I can put it on the new carb. Two small bolts that are soft and became stripped immediately and I can't find even a reference for parts to just order another bracket. Any help??

    Got the carb, non adjustable style, all cleaned up, back together and on the engine. All "orfices" are clear and clean. Unfortunately it didn't want to run unless I sprayed starting fluid or carb cleaner into the carb. The carb gasket wasn't 100% but used sealant. I did notice a sound I've never heard when I push the red primer button, kind if like a bubbling sound. Both the fuel and purge hoses are good. Needle valve is a solid piece, no rubber above the pointy end. What can cause that primer bulb sound?

    So is that Gunk parts cleaner a single use only deal? Or how many times is that jug good for using? Can you strain the crud off somehow from it & reuse it?
    And weren't you worried about thay fuel spill on your driveway or storing the parts cleaner for 3 days like that? Gonna assume it's flammable as well

    • @TractorHoarders
      @TractorHoarders  Před 9 měsíci +1

      The Gunk parts cleaner is multi-use. I’ve still got the same can and made that video a while ago. You could potentially filter it and get the crud out. Maybe strain it through an old shirt or something.
      I fix stuff on my driveway all the time and am constantly spilling things. It evaporates so no real issue for me. I sometimes keep parts in the Gunk parts cleaner for weeks with no issue. It’s really not as strong today as it used to be in the past. But it’s no worse than gasoline, in my opinion. Not sure if that is fact or not.

      First spray a little starter fluid in the air intake of the carburetor and try to start it. If it tries starting and running for a few seconds, it’s likely a gummed up carburetor. I have another video linked in the description that may help you too.
