    Today I am repairing more of Paul's equipment. This time it's a two-stroke Toro snow blower that won't start - despite its own guarantee!

    I had at one time a Cub Cadet snow thrower. It came with electric start, never needed it because the machine always started on first pull, no matter how long it sat. As a secondary machine they are invaluable and throw the snow a long distance. I traded it in when I went to front mounted tractor machine. Still miss it.

    It's almost ALWAYS a carb issue with the small 2-Stroke Tecumseh snowblower engines. 2nd common problem is usually a broken or leaking "reed" decompression valve.
    If everything is hunky dory with these things, they always fire up on the first or second pull.

    Thank you very much. My neighbor put his snowblower on the curb to get rid of and I picked it up. It's a Toro Powerlite Snowblower 98 CC, 2 Stroke. When I prime the fuel bulb and choke it, it will run for a second then die. So, I hope what you demonstrated will help me. I appreciate it.

    • @PaintedSpringsGarage
      @PaintedSpringsGarage  Před 2 lety

      That sounds likely to be a carburetor issue. Cleaning out the jet and all the orifices should get it running well again.

    I have this snowblower, but is has the very rare alternative engine in it. Most of these snowblowers use the Briggs and Stratton R-tek series engine in them, but mine has the rare Suzuki CCR 2000 engine. They only made this engine for two years before Suzuki ended their partnership with Toro, that is why I find mine as very special.

    I've got the same model that I picked up at the local ReStore for $25. It has been useful for several years, but when I went to start it this winter I didn't have any spark. That's the inspiration for searching what is the problemo??? I have the wet plug, i.e. fuel is getting there.

    • @ddbala
      @ddbala Před rokem +1

      Last time I had this happen, the contact within the boot of spark plug was widened over years. Made it narrow with pliers. No spark due to contact problems. Left open overnite for flooding to dry up with sparkplug removed. Put plug next day.Started in two pulls. Try this with a new spark plug. Good luck to you.

    • @davelowets
      @davelowets Před rokem

      Check your coil, or shutdown key switch. If you unplug the single wire connector from the back of the key switch, and make sure it doesn't touch a metal ground, it will disable the kill switch and remove that as a source of trouble.

I now use truefuel 50:1 from home depot no need to mix and it will last in blower for 2 years and in can for 5 years according to them, I also add about a half can of sea foam work wonder thank me later I learn the hard way lol

  • @suzgriess5259
    @suzgriess5259 Před 3 lety +1

    the two stroke flood very fast you put a dry spark plug in it witch was good but then you primed it that just was to much gas the best to dois take a air blower and blow to piston dry and a dry plug then try with a smal amount of primeing

    • @davelowets
      @davelowets Před rokem +1

      I just pull the plug out, and let it dry for a minute or so, while I pull the motor over for a little bit to blow the excess fuel out of it. Screw the plug back in, and it'll go.

    I have a two stroke blower similar to that one. It runs initially but won’t keep running. It worked a bit longer a month ago but now doesn’t last long. I tried to clean out the carburetor but that didn’t do it. Similar issue, only works with choke but still dies with that but if I open and close the choke continuously then it keeps running so idk if it’s not getting fuel consistently? Idk not an engine guy. Still watching this vid currently so maybe that will give me the answer

    • @PaintedSpringsGarage
      @PaintedSpringsGarage  Před rokem

      It sounds like you have a fueling issue. Test fuel flow to the carburetor by pulling the fuel line off and letting it flow into a gas can. It should flow pretty quickly. It it's flowing well then it's very likely a restriction inside the carburetor, a bad carb gasket or possibly engine compression. Be sure to check the carburetor to engine gasket as well. If you have an air leak there you may not be pulling enough air (and fuel with the air) through the carburetor.

    I bought a bigger Toro snow blower ladt october. When the snow mounted up on the driveway i started the snow blower. It was fun. I got done in 15 minutes, where with the smaller one it took all afternoon. I only had to use it 3 times last year. Now.. this year it wont start. Seems like its not getting gas or something. Wonder what could be wrong?

    • @PaintedSpringsGarage
      @PaintedSpringsGarage  Před 2 lety

      The key only affects the ignition system. This video demonstrates how to check for spark and fuel flow and how to clean the carburetor, which often is the source of the problem. Good luck!

    • @PaintedSpringsGarage
      @PaintedSpringsGarage  Před 2 lety

      Do you mean it was running without an adjustment screw? If you installed the screw then perhaps it is restricting the fuel supply now. Try backing it off and see if that helps. You may need to back it way out to start then adjust while it's running.

  • @schickmann

    Can a gas line be too big, too small, or to long?

    • @PaintedSpringsGarage
      @PaintedSpringsGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      The short answer is that you want unrestricted fuel flow to the carburetor. If the line is too small diameter it can restrict flow. The shorter the length the better.

    How to set RPM on toro CCR2000

    I’m about to take apart the carb on my craftsman Tecumseh 2 stroke snowblower. It started a couple times but now I can’t get it to do anything.
    One thing that I couldn’t get under control was the governor. It just kept going way too high on the rpm’s. Idle was very high too. Any ideas or tips?

    • @PaintedSpringsGarage
      @PaintedSpringsGarage  Před 2 lety

      If it's revving too high without surging the most likely thing is that the throttle is sticking open or a cable or linkage is connected incorrectly or misadjusted.
