- Shows where I believe Link's moves have originated or what they have been influenced by. Covers the rest of Link's moves not in the the first video, including a few moves link does with the Master Sword, the Clawshot, shielding and the shield, taunts and the Final Smash.
Please watch in high quality if your connection and computer can handle it. - Hry
If I recall right, the stance Link does as his down taunt (when he raises his sword with one leg to balance) is very close to the tree stance in yoga. This would make sense, as the Link from Ocarina of Time (and Majora's Mask for that matter) was raised by The Great Deku Tree. I'd like to think of his down taunt as a small homage to him.
Fantastic work, like always. It's admirable how much time you put into these.
Excellent video. It... absolutely amazes me to see how thorough you have been with the Brawl videos! They're a huge step above your old Melee ones! I really look forward to all future videos with bated breath. Especially characters I don't know as well, like the Fire Emblem characters and Snake.
Another two videos for my favorites >:D thank you so much, this really explain everything!!
I just love watching your videos!
That was outstanding. Well done friend.
When Link does his final smash, it looks like he flexes his arm before attacking!
Nice work with the research!
Great work. Couldn't be better..
Hey skyward sword would like to have a word with you
It exist in the future
5:23 save fail.
Awesome vid btw. i don't wanna imagine how long you were recording all those games.
Awesome, I love these history videos.
Although some of them i know already :P
Good work. :)
Victory poses: His first one is him slashing his sword twice, spinning it, then sheathing it. Same as the taunt, based upon Link's "well done" animation from TP.
His second one is him thrusting his sword, holding it in front of him, then thrusting it up. How he holds his sword in front of him could roughly be a reference to how Link holds his sword in front of him in Zelda II, and how he holds the sword above him originates from ALTTP, when LInk held the Master Sword up upon obtaining it.
His final on consists of Link slashing the sword twice, then turning to his side. No reference seen from the Zelda series, but it does originate from Smash Bros 64, where when you select Link, he does the same animation, only that he slashes faster and has his legs more separated.
Two years after this video was made, Skyward Sword came out, and Link finally obtains the entire Triforce in that game. :D
I just love the slow motion final smash he keeps spinning
Dude first off, nice Vids! You really put effort in there and i love ur opinions even if you sometimes overdo it like that link can hit 2 enemies at a time with the downward stab (duh!) in smash bros everything hits multiple enemies as long as they are in range.
But thats not the point. I want to ask something of you... Could you PLEASE put a warning in ur descriptions or vid channel that those videos WILL SPOIL certain games for people who haven't played them!
I don't know why, but I find it funny how Link instantly stops screaming when he hits the ground, after letting go of the ladder at 10:48! X'D
lol one of the best capturing devices ive ever seen
During the A Link to the Past triforce scene you should've mentioned something like "The triforce can be used for anything Link wants to wish for, so Link's wish could be speculated in Brawl to be able to defeat the opponent."
hey man will u do a History Behind Super Smash Bros.U?
I think you could have montioned the cursor in the Wii version of Twilight Princess when talking about Navi because it's desing in Brawl seems to most closely resemble the cursor in TP. But geez I'm just being picky. It's a great and very informative video. (45 mins in total O_o)
Excellent work as usual, just a couple of criticisms.
1. Link is capable of stunning strong enemies with the clawshot in TP. This idea got transferred to Brawl. While he normally uses the clawshot to grab, if he uses it while in the air it can attack an opponent, a technique known as "zair".
2. Link's down taunt is originally from SSB64. It may have roots from Zelda II, but you should have credited that as well.
great video it seems you put a crapload of time and effort and time well spent to
This is beautiful.
Would you by any chance be talking about the triangle shape that's in the center of all the others when they're together?
Fun fact: The Wii version of Twilight princess didn't just change what hand Link wielded items in: the entire game was mirrored, with the exception of the UI. This made the vast majority of Hyrule actually wind up being left-handed.
EDIT: Also, Navi is blue. It's just a shade of blue that's easy to discount as a result of the fading of her glow with distance.
@96Thompson It was changed as of the release of version 1.2, which was released some time after Ocarina of Time's initial release. Ganon's blood was indeed red in versions 1.0(the gold-colored cartridges) or 1.1(the gray cartridges for those that didn't pre-order)
I think it was one of the more notable changes made to the game, the other being the Fire Temple music having been remixed(to remove chanting if I remember correctly)
I don't understand why so many of his moves were explained with Twilight Princess. Most of Link's moves were the same since the original Smash Bros which clearly couldn't have been inspired by Twilight Princess. The Gale Boomerang makes sense, though.
Because this link is from twilight princess
Alana Marshall But the moves were copied over from previous iterations of Smash created before Twilight Princess.
+Chillava I greatly believe it's because Brawl's Link is greatly inspired from TP. As Melee's Link is greatly inspired from OoT. Not to mention that TP (at the time) was the most updated LoZ game as was OoT back then.
***** The point I'm trying to make is that Brawl Link shares most of his moves with Melee/64 Link. Not everything can be explained with TP because some of his moves existed before TP did.
Chillava Well, don't know why you gotta go that deep into it :P, but it is said that every link you play is another incarnation of the triforce of courage hero. Meaning, his moveset transfers to the next generation.
Hell yeah!
Good work!
I wanna be like you xD
Link's tunic looks so cool at 4:07
to perform the triforce slash, you must first have acquired the smash ball ( you'll be glowing an array of colors) and then you have to press B to activate the final smash.
i just realized...should you include the different costumes since most are based off previous games as well? i know its probably covered out there in another video by somebody else but then again probably some other history is as well
9.08 : His movement are not exaggerated, he is just dancing.
Link's taunt where he lifts his sword and leg up at an angle is actually the same taunt as the link from the original super smash bros.
Hey... (Listen LOL)
Link ended his downward aerial in the original SSB in the same way,if I'm not mistaken.
It's possible that this move of Twilight Princess has been based in that move of SSB...
Sorry for any errors in my english,I'm a brazilian still learning.
Nice video though ^^
@TheReef96 That would be the Zora Armor. It worked like the Zora Tunic in OOT, except you could actually swim around underwater while wearing it.
Great work, but I should mention that Navi's design in Brawl is actually taken from the Navi-ish fairy pointer in the Wii version of Twilight Princess. Not that big a deal though.
Are you gonna cover the references that the Subspace Emissary adventure makes?
18:43
That sword was so needed to sheath away
You can use the clawshot/hookshot to damage opponents by extending it while in the air. This is in line with its "A Link to the Past" characteristics.
Hey Crappy, I was playing OoT, and, well, don't you think Link's movements are more based on his running in OoT? I feel like the TP battle stance just isn't really the same, and the way he kinda bounces up and down as he runs in OoT and even the sword and shield placement seem almost identical to the SSBB Link. I mean, in TP, the stance in TP is so tight and defensive, while in SSBB, it seems more lax, like in OoT. Just a thought.
the colour of the fairy seems to resembel more the pointer fairy in the wii ersion of twilght princess, which could also be a reference to how link follow it with his right hand
how do you use that camera everywhere, like when you pause
omg a second part [but its a little shorter]
2. Links other taunt(where he strikes a sword pose) originated in the first ssb game.
Overall you did an ok job, whereareas I wanted to say was like "yeah, no shit..." or "you don't say!"
I've heard it said that the Hylian Shield was re-designed for TP in response to Urban Legends Of Zelda claiming that the inverted triangle on the bottom of OoT's Hylian Shield was a fourth piece of the Triforce.
Oh, and just for the sake of being a little more picky, there's a typo at 17:28 where you wrote Trifoce instead of Triforce. Idk if you want to correct it w/ an annotation or something,
Link and Samus are for some reason in Super Mario RPG. Easter eggs? (if you talk to Samus in that game, she tells you that she's resting up for Mother Brain, and if you try to interact with Link, who is also sleeping in a bed, the "Puzzle Solved" sound plays.)
dude did you play like 60 times to record these two videos O.o?
Hmmm, so next up is Samus, am I correct? Cuz' it seems you're doing this in order horizontally according to the roster.
Also note that during Link's final smash, his eyes turn a gold color.
Link's down taunt is also Link's taunt from the first Smash Bros.
Link had all the triforce in skyward sword, but this is 2 years after this video!
16:34 Ganondorf plays a mean organ!
Lol Navi is bluish (a little at least)
amazing job still. I *thought* the finishing blow looked familiar XD
correct me if I'm wrong, but did he not gain the triforce in its entirety at the end of a link to the past?
You didn't mention that the fairy cursor in TP (Wii).
i think i depends on whether you use your right hand or left hand when playing with link on wii
1. You can't stole his Ocarina and Master Sword.
2. He has a lot of equipment overpowered.
3. Fierce Deity Mask.
Link is a badass!
He said a thousand times in both parts of the video: Because the majority of people are right-handed, in the Wii version Link is right-handed, so you can control him with the Wii Remote naturally.
LOL. did you choose to demonstrate Link's moves in Pokemon Stadium because he bounces to the music? 9:10 lol :D
No, after the third jump you blink a darker shade of the character's colours, which prevent you from doing anything other than moving in midair until you reach the ground.
now when i think about it i think that the taunt with navi in it might just be a normal fairy because the way the fairy goes around him kinda like when a fairy in a bottle heals link but it does look like navi and not a normal fairy but that is just a thought
Why dint you make a "Toon link's moved(1/2)-History behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl"? ;(
"It's metal and it will never burn" right -.-
OMG!!! I loved links eyes at 18:30!
he does hit opponents with the clawshot, but only in the air
Link is so awesome he deserves 2 vids
I already subed. No more can be said.....NEXT VIDEO HERE I COME!!!
the taunt at 11:54 was from the original smash bros intro scene as well, but you can't do it in game, but i suppose the history behind that intro stance was, ummmm, just to look cool i guess.
Very interesting vid you did your homework.
It was ok, but it seemed that you mentioned that EVERYTHING was only for brawl, like the down thrust, it was in Melee and in ssb. The stances were already there.
You also missed two things:
1. Link's sword taunt(where he twirls around then seathes it. In tp, he twirls it BUT when he seathes it, he steps back a little, not like in brawl.
In Twilight Princess, the bottom of the triangle below the triforce symbol is slightly different than in brawl
This guy knows Nintendo!
Zora tunic. It lets you swim indefinitely. Man you have to play Twilight Princess :D
I was re-assuring your point..
@Pikafan2132 Yes, Mr. G&W is a flattened 3-D model.
But that's just it, he'll make it as long as it needs to be to cover EVERYTHING that he can.
Also in the Super Smash Bros. Either of them when he strikes down on an opponent with the sword 1), or if you jump and tap A with a weak attack 2) , or a The Great Spin 3) it also covers three hidden skills of 7 from Twilight Princess: 1) The Ending Blow 2) Helm Splitter (I think he does it im sure he does in Brawl anyway) 3) Great Spin Attack! I think it's class you have Link teaching Link hidden skills, and then has these little things from past Zelda games in Brawl! Well done Nintendo! 👍
nice tunic @ 4:07 XD
BTW there is actually a "theory" that SSBB Link might be Twilight Princess Link but slightly older, or even Ocarina of Time Link with an updated appearance (possibly due to carrying Navi). I just had to mention it here.
i think link summons the triforce to do his final smash
We all got different gaming skills, don't we?
final smash: interesting concept
4:05 what is he wearing...? I very much prefer the green tunic of the hero XD
when link does the down thrust in brawl his shield is put away, unlike twilight princess.
You can damage people by firing the Clawshot in midair and have it hit someone.
*reads annotation at 4:28* Yeah, like in your video that shows that Samus hitting opponents in mid-air with her Charge Beam damages them.
since u can only see two triangles in the FS then maybe hes using the triforces of strength and wisdom. He had to collect them in the first LoZ like he said and since he didnt have the triforce of courage, again pointed out in the video, maybe thats what hes using. idk makes sense to me =/
also links sword stance taunt seems to be directly from the first smash bros (the whole leg thing and exagerated movement)
It IS possible to damage opponents with the tethers in the game, with the exception of Lucas's Rope Snake. So yes, the Clawshot can damage opponents in the air.
you didnt tell about link with the triforce and triforce peice collect in windwaker
some characters have similar facial expressions to their pevious games like kirby's face when he standind in neutral is from most kirby games
00:09 as chuggaaconory would say, ' SWORD THROUGH THE FOREHEAD!!!!'
@CaptainDarthy Also Link has blond hair in Brawl, just like in Ocarina of Time, but in Twilight Princess his hair is more brownish. Some also speculate that this is an older version of TP Link.
3:21 Forgot to mention...
Looks like the Master Sword being pulled out like in Ocarina of Time
Im still connecting the dots on the TRIFORCE thing lol ??? :/ ???
note mido in Zelda II and the character Mido in Ocarina
My favorite part of Twilight Princess is that sumo-wrestling part- because Link is topless!
14:38 that picture looks hilarius
