- The third entry of the Super Smash Bros. series is one of the most contentious. Some people adore this game and some people hate it with a passion. But despite this, Super Smash Bros. Brawl introduced so much to the series. Third party characters, a big adventure mode, online multiplayer, and the GameCube controller never dying! The "WORST" Super Smash Bros. Game
• The "WORST" Super Smas... - Hry
Brawl is only considered “bad” by the competitive side of Smash’s community because of its overly casualized gameplay even though FGC scene was never Sakurai’s priority, he always seen Smash Bros as a party game, it’s not Brawl’s fault for respecting that vision instead of being a carbon copy of Melee.
As far as it’s roster, stages, content, music, story and overall experience as a whole: Brawl is EASILY one of the best Smash games of all time, rivaling even Ultimate if you ask me.
100% Agree, you worded all of it well!
i love this game
As a casual who, me and my friends played 64, Melee and Brawl around their launches. The game was like a 9/10 like Melee was for its time in 01. Which was hard to top imo, we would still pop in melee after we got bored of brawl for more “serious” matches and we liked the Melee pokeballs better.
The
roster was perfect but the main issues were
1. Online sucked
2. Tripping and slowness in general.
3. Overpowered cheese like chaingrabs and many glitches. We experience more of this stuff on accident than pretty much any glitch in Melee. Everyone knew falco’s and Dededes which was super annoying and unfun.
4. Meta Knight, the first week at my buddies house we all banned him lol.
5. Great Maze sucked and was mostly unnecessary.
I would say Smash 4 is much worst because of Bayonetta, no story mode and the Wii U sucking.
The point being, playing it as a party game can still have flaws but still a 9/10 tbh
It had its issues beyond the competitive community too. The gameplay was just very slow and boring. My brother and I dropped it after a few months and went back to Melee. Didn’t look back. I know other casual players that did the same. It failed to hold many people’s attention for more than a few matches every now and then.
Brawl was only ever considered the worst by melee enthusiasts, and there was a lot of nasty shit going back and forth back in the late 00s and early 10s before PM brought everyone together (and also competitive brawl died). The discourse has progressed though to where 4 is now considered complete dogshit-ass, because brawl was at least interesting and ult improved on 4 in basically every way
It’s always a constant “your favorite game sucks, mine is better”and it sucksss
@Sp3ctralI there basically the ttyd fans equivalent of smash bros
@@Sp3ctralIThat’s always the same for Paper Mario too. Which is why I try to enjoy games for what they are instead of comparing them to “what’s better and worse”.
Smash 4, without the context of it's disgusting competitive 2 stock meta, the abhorrent, consistent rage jank, the random untechables, the plethora of homogeneous throw kill confirms and awkward pace between that of Brawl & Ult, always felt like Smash at its most distilled and basic to me. Even moreso than Smash 64, because atleast 64 had the excuse that it is the first in the series.
Smash 4 felt like it had an identity crisis the entirety of it's run other than being the first Smash in HD & portable as well as the first with DLC. The general UI, sound design and visual effects are all heavily recycled from Brawl and it always bugged me that it took until Ultimate for the series to feel fresh again.
It's really telling in the title. Smash 4 (Wii & 3DS). A very basic title but they couldn't come up with ANYTHING else?
@@sandrin0 smash 3ds was phenomenal, what are you talking about, I played it a lot with my brother!!!
Ain't no way he says my childhood game is the worst
Would like to know what he was smoking when he made this seems....... Interesting
It was my Childhood also. The Story Plot was good too.
@@sonicxslay6948 it was sooo good personally for me it was the best and it didn't even need dialogue
Melee and the newest one is my fav. But I cannot deny the impact this game had on my childhood and the incredible music and additional content. When I hear the music again it really makes me nostalgic and emotional.
Amazing how the "worst" game has unconditionally become the most important one out of them all, in ways they go beyond what most people realize.
Series so good even the worst is good.
Yeah, Meti Not the Bad Guy said a similar thing for Devil May Cry 2 (sort of).
Brawl gave me my lifelong childhood dream...
SONIC IN SMASH
Dont forget Silvers cameo!
Funny story Pit was the reason I played brawl because I actually thought he was Sora and also thought that meta knight was a heartless 😂
That reminds me how when I was a kid I thought Roxas was Sora since I started with kh2
@@JonseyLetsPlaysI mean you weren’t wrong 🤣
This reminds me of a time me and my friend had a aggressive argument over whether meta knight is a good guy or bad guy over his role in brawl.
Nintendo HQ has just dispatched their enforcers Waluigi and Chunky Kong to beat you to a pulp for such disrespect
I’ve literally only heard that the toxic Melee community hated this game because they couldn’t pull off broken mechanics anymore lol.
@@DXDJ plus melee is a snob's game
I really don’t mind Subspace Emissary not having dialogue. It makes it very accessible to non-English speakers. It’s got the same appeal as a classic silent movie how you can understand exactly what they are thinking without the need for any words.
At least SE gave us unique stages and enemies... We didn't even get the Alloy Fighters, which were just the core 8 models with fewer polygons
Of course, the main problem with the Subspace Emissary is that a lot of the levels have boring platforming along with an asinine amount of autoscrollers, horrendous pacing, and most of the characters' movements are nerfed.
For that reason, it makes me wonder if The Great Maze should've the whole game from the start.
@@Loner098 I didn’t find it boring at all.
Honestly I wish it had dialogue. Would’ve been cool if Mario talked to Pit.
@@ShockwaveFPSStudios It’s more universal and appealing having no dialogue. Visual storytelling has been around for years, long before the advent of sound.
7:22 Meta Knight is a rival, not a villain Dedede is more of a villain than him and he rarely ever actually is a villain after Kirby's Adventure (Nightmare in Dreamland being a remake)
In fact, he basically becomes one of Kirby’s best friends onward - only really being hostile to him thanks to outside forces
I'd still argue Revenge of Meta Knight is his one villain role lol
@@thejedisonic67yeah but that is only time he's villain, no one said Vageta still a villain
They're both antagonists in games, but that does not equal villain. They each had only one game where they may be able to fit the rile of "villian"
Tbh, I feel like all smash games have their charm
I think subspace is what really made me fall in love with this game as a kid. Fun fact about my experience with Smash Bros. When I first opened the game, I didn't think I could click on "group" without another player and I had no one to play with, so the only thing I did in Smash Bros. Brawl for MONTHS was Subspace Emissary... and played it multiple times... But it made me love subspace so much and when I finally stopped being an idiot and clicked group, I was even more hooked. Truly a memorable game of my life and always will be.
The lack of dialogue really helped giving this story a mysterious and dark atmosphere
I really love the Subspace Emissary! It was lovely to have such an extensive single player mode, it'd be a good introduction for people not familiar with this kind of gameplay.
I will say this. Subspace >> World of Light
@@crest_o_razors Yeah, that's not exactly a spicy take.
Brawl definitely had the best story mode. World of light just felt like a bunch of boring levels tied together.
You dont colect trophies of the missing characters in the great maze, you do that on the 2 levels before the great maze in subspace. This is like the 3rd video I see this miss information been spread where did you guys got this ideia from?
They’re probably just watching each other’s videos and copying notes instead of taking the time to actually replay it.
Pretty sure it was in English literacy, a class you clearly skipped.
We would not have the same smash today if it wasn't for brawl. (I think the adventure mode is better than world of light.)
Yeah I still remember how freaking huge the hype was back in the day, Melee was absolutely eclipsed at one point by Brawl and it was truly the first game that made massive bank on debut. Even I was pretty adamant about not returning to Melee until about 5 years later after I had my fun with Brawl. Brawl still arguably is the most iconic smash game in spite of its flaws.
Brawl was definetly the game you could have the most value out of at the time.
Let me say why.
Smash on 64 was the introduction concept. You don't have as many characters so you could get tired of it quick.
Melee was the same. It had a higher cast but I would put it down and pick back up.
Brawl on the other hand. It introduced the first third party characters. It had an incredible cast of characters. The subspace emissary is probably the best crossover story we have ever gotten in a video game. Even to this day. It made a world where it seemed believable that this cast of characters could live in. Then trophy system was expanded i upon and seemed fun to collect.
I can agree that the gameplay was a little slower for my liking but it's not as bad as the melee community likes to shit on.
Now even smash 4 and ultimate havent give me the same feel that Brawl did. The music and presentation in that game may never be topped.
Who knows it may be nostalgia, but that is my opinion
i actually love that most of the subspace content like enemies and levels are completely original to smash, i think it was made like that to complement the big final bosses like master hand and tabuu that are also smash original, i also love the idea of the "smash universe" and it made me wish for a smash original character in the game like the Primid or Tabuu, i still hope it will happen in a future smash game
I bet that R.O.B already fills that role, since it is the villain-turned-good Prime Minister
One forgotten thing I love about brawl is the trophy item you can use to capture enemies in the subspace emissary. Adds so much replay value and genuinely fun and challenging to collect all the enemy trophies and read about the lore
4 is definitely the worst at this point. Brawl only got flak because it wasn't competitively viable
So...the trip mechanic that shouldn't even be in the game?
Vast majority of people including myself at one point didnt really care it wasnt competitive, at release it was extremely positively received its only near Smash 4s release folk started being more critical towards it. Which I will say does hold some water but I still think Brawl had some charm, that and I just hate how linear 4 was in design and gameplay. I somehow can still enjoy bits of Brawl but 4 just has left such a bad taste in my mouth with how streamlined most characters play.
Legit 4 feels like such a soulless product now. It was neat on release to finally get some better controls back but man did the content really feel pathetic. It was the only Smash game where universes straight up felt smaller with roster cuts (any cuts between Melee and Brawl were basically completely compensated by their newcomers, such as Pichu & Mewtwo for PKMN Trainer & Lucario, Dr. mario for Wario, Young Link for Took Link, Roy for Ike), and then 4 straight up cut characters from franchises and stepped back a *lot* (like seriously, removing Wolf or Lucas without a replacement in sight feels absolutely criminal)
Then there's the overly gimmicky stages which Brawl already suffered from, except the majority of new stages in Wii U just stuck to the samey green and blue daytime palette that got very tiring soon, and the Kirby universe felt so absolutely half asses with the retro Dream Land and Great Cave Offensive thrown in, like the franchise had no more material available or something
As you can tell I always had problems with how underwhelming smash 4 felt like a game, I think I enjoyed the trailers more than actually sitting down to play it
@@kirbyofthestarsfango play a smash clone and then apologize to 4
Still, I don't know why melee gets free of charge about clone characters just for three fox "clones"? Because fucking Melee started the trend and did it way worse by having more clones. Also Dr Mario? Are we going KOF 2000 with 4 Kyo characters?
It doesn't help now we have dark options...
the irony of the people who hate Brawl from a competitive standpoint are also the ones who basically turned the meta into ignoring as much of Smash's actual gameplay as possible
also i will forever find funny that people refer to the Zero Suit as an Item, "Quick! Samus you must put on your naked!"
I'm a competitive melee player but brawl is the best game in the series because of the single player content
Super smash bros brawl is very important to me as it was the first crossover game and first smash bros game that I played when I was around 6-7 years old and gotten me to smash bros series since then. The adventure mode brings back huge memories and i even subspace on max difficulty intense mode back in 2019 along with obtaining all boss trophies, enemy trophies, and boss battle mode on all difficulty’s.
Fun fact, there is voice acting and dialog in subspace, except it's one line and it's just snake saying "kept you waiting, huh?" That's it.
Brawl is in the same park as Mario Party 9, 10, Star Rush, Island Tour (to an extent), Paper Mario: Sticker Star (also to an extent), and Paper Mario: Color Splash: Underserved and/or too much hate
the mario party where they put everyone in a car and the paper mario that didnt even have partners? yeah adds up
@@----x----- There is such a thing as too much hate on a game
Pretty sure I beat subspace without ever realizing stickers existed
Same actually lol
Brawl is my favorite because it is most nostalgic to me
Same
Me three
me four
I really love the brawl semi realistic astetic, too bad they nerfed snake and samus cake.
Regarding Brawl’s opening, I attended a video game orchestra concert last month, and the theme was the first to be played. And while it played, I was picturing the opening movie in my head. Truly amazing.
Well, I don’t care what anyone says. I love Brawl, despite its shortcomings before and after the fact. It’ll always be memorable to me because it was the FIRST time I ever went to a midnight release to pick it up.
Wait a second, this isn't a 28 minute diatribe about Smash 64. I've been bamboozled!
Speaking of Smash Ultimates spirits, I'd love a continuation of the spirit references explained series, you never got to any of the ones I didn't already know the references for.
I have Super Smash Bros. Brawl and I LOVE it!!! In fact, I am really enjoying the Subspace Emissary story.😊
Calling second stage or middle stage Pokemon "stage 1" is trading card game terminology, which is a weird relic of reading the part of the card that tells you which card is ITS "stage one" from which it evolves into CALLING it "stage 1" because that's text on the second form's card.
You know I think Smash 64 is the worst game. People barely even talk about it when in the discussion of the “worst smash game.”
Its because most just havent gotten to play it, and honestly Id still put it in top 3. Sure its got really rough edges but theres still a lot to enjoy imo, its almost like a beta Melee build with how the game engine feels thats slightly less fluid. But hey my favorite part is it doesnt have the annoying 10 frame buffer post Brawl games have which does make it hard but it prevents you from keeping your gameplan the same if youve not practiced timings.
64 is perfect for its time. it didn't have bad online, because online wasn't a thing yet. it didn't have a big story mode with voice acting because there was no room for it on an n64. it didn't lack balance patches because those didn't exist. the gameplay couldn't be compared to any previous entry because it was the first. and there's an active n64 competitive scene still today more active than brawl's for what it's worth
I owe a lot to Brawl, I was introduced to series' I love thru it.
7:22
well "villain"
he's not really a villain
Well a lot of Smash CZcamsrs are Sakurai fanboys who just follow anything Sakurai says or does but I believe Sakurai still considers Meta Knight a villain so I can see the mistake how ever that's why people want a new developer for the next Smash so series are properly represented, and single player is improved.
Brawl is so overhated man, but at least that backlash prevented the next games from following its misguided casual-friendly approach, I get goosebumps to think about getting even more gimmicks like random tripping in future installments
Random tripping is a concept that should never have made it past the ideas phase. It’s a bad mechanic that hurts BOTH sides of the community. Why in a million years did they think such an obviously bad concept was good to implement?
@@king_poyo64 Because they doubled down on removing everything that made Melee competitive. At least that's how it feels like to me.
@@king_poyo64 "surely if there's an equal chance to trip for everyone it will make the game easier for casuals to beat pros right?"
sakurai in his great wisdom, probably
I personally think smash Wii U/3DS is the worst in the series
Fully agree. I feel like there's no reason to return to wiiu or 3ds the gameplay in ultimate is better and also the single player in Wiiu and 3ds are pretty lackluster or just suck like classic mode in Wiiu except for smash run that's a good mode. I rarely play Wiiu or 3ds now. 64 melee and brawl are have reasons to return to those games but sadly that's not the case for smash 4
@@C.Falcon1 The core gameplay and overall content in Smash 4 is still better than in any of the first 3 games. Classic Mode (and All-Star Mode) are just as good as in any of them, as well. Yeah, the board game mode in the Wii U version isn't very good, but everything else is still excellent. Just because "Ultimate," is well, the ultimate game in the series, doesn't change how "Smash 4" improved the series first. Plus, it's the only game in the series with custom specials.
It's "Smash 64" that has absolutely no reason to return to it.
@@Compucles that is true 64 has the least amount of content in the entire series. Yea I see your point and I have played 3ds and wiiu way more than 64 but I have been returning to 64 a lot the last couple of years more than smash 4 maybe because 64 was the first smash game I ever played maybe that why Idk but yea 4 is definitely better than 64 overall but I just like smash 64 more for some reason. But my favorite game is melee personality I just like it's gameplay the most and it did so much for the series. But 4 is the only one that had a cross platform release so that's pretty unique and cool.
@@XxPeppyRoomxX 3ds is goat
I really wish Tabuu had been the final fighter for Ultimate. Don't get me wrong, having Sora finally in is incredible, but I would have popped off so hard if I got to play as the blue boy.
Honestly Snake isn't that weird to anyone who lived through the 80's. He had TWO games on NES, and until Playstation came out generations later, the only way you would've heard of the dude was via NES, at least in North America
i feel like smash 4 has an even worse reputation nowadays even with all the crazy dlc characters we got. at least with brawl you can argue that it was never supposed to be a competitive game and that it was clearly much more interested in being a fun and casual experience while smash 4 clearly made an effort to be as balanced as possible with all the patches and official tournaments
Oh, man you just had to be there. I remember when sonic was first revealed and that was the highlight of my school day.
I went to Sonic and treated myself to a Sonic Blast in celebration.
@@Compucles that sounds awesome.
11:49 RIP DK J-
Oh right, he's DK's absentee dad now.
I believe more accurately the DK we know is the son of DK Jr making him Cranky’s grandson not son
@@eloydelacruz3158 Oh right, that's correct.
I suspect the massive scope increase also reflects the growth in the stature of the franchise. This is the point where the game became a “get” for any franchise, composer, etc., and it only gets bigger from here.
15:20 And then Smash Ultimate went full ham with that by using Ganondorf's OoT design, Zelda's LttP and LBW design, Link's BotW design, Sheik is a weird amalgamation of her non-existant Twilight Princess and BotW designs so mostly Smash original again, as well as including both Young Link and Toon Link.
Oops, OoT got represented twice there (and Ganondorf's third pallet represents Twilight Princess instead). _And_ Toon Link has a LttP and LBW Link pallet swap... Double oops?
Pissed me off when they dropped Ganon back to OoT.
Brawl is my favorite one in the series not just because it’s nostalgic, but because it’s such an important game in the series. It’s the beginning of pre-release hype in the Dojo, 3rd Party Characters, hood classic stages like Delfino Plaza and WarioWare, assist trophies, full single-player campaign in Subspace, a lot of non fighting stuff to do like Stage Builder, Masterpieces, everything involving Trophies, and of course Final Smashes. Regardless of what you think of Brawl, you can’t deny how important this game was in the long run
22:23 Well, aside from the ones that are basically just recolored voltorbs.
Everyone jokes about Sonic's moveset in Smash Bros., and how it desperately needs an overhaul (it genuinely does), but the funny thing is that this same moveset that pervaded for three games would go on to make Sonic one of the highest ranked Fighters in both Smash 4 and Ultimate's Official Tier Lists. Kind of a weird juxtaposition, when you think about it.
man... I remember testing my mods and constantly working on stage ideas for this game because I knew everybody wanted this game to be more like melee; I just saw an opportunity to get alittle noticed since everyone was working on character mods/imports while I focused on stages and stuff. It was so much fun and it's prob what a dev with some freedom feels like working. :/
You’re mixing up The Great Maze and the prior Subspace levels.
"a Final Smash is a character's absolute strongest move"
*shows Donkey Kong's stupid bongo attack* 🤣
Here me out:
The next Smash game will just be a sequel to Subspace, as well as all other unique modes like Smash Run, Adventure Mode from Melee, and even many ways of collecting the Trophies.
Obviously this is all just one big dream of an idea but would be pretty lit for a Smash game, especially since the competitive scene is already doing a lot for themselves and Nintendo doesn't seem to care much in the competitives.
Maybe it could also be connected to World of Light as well and show how both of these modes are connected in some way - maybe through the form of a new villain. Maybe more lore elements on the World of Trophies
@@raggens true! There is actually so much to connect for Smash lore from like every game there was.
I think brawl is underrated personally without it smash wouldn’t be what it used to be, I’d say it’s better than melee personally.
Did you know that Pikachu was confirmed to be a dude in Brawl? Gender differences were introduced in gen 4 and so it was very easy to conclude Pikachu was a dude in smash brawl. More evidence for it was seen when female Pikachu became an alt costume in Ultimate.
Smash brawl will always have a special place, especially for subspace and it being the first to introduce characters that aren’t from Nintendo and also adding final smashes. I also wouldn’t consider it the worse or anywhere close to a bad game, while some things aren’t perfect, and while the gameplay for some isn’t as popular as others, it’s still a really good and fun game. ❤️🔥
they asked Sakurai to add online and he did THE BARE MINIMUM to say there's online but it's unplayable. laggy, no 1 vs 1, no settings or options, no ranks, nothing. it's pathetic and insulting. instead we get a million terrible single player modes and a terrible adventure mode.
there's a timeline where sakurai did not return and we just got melee 2 with good online and slightly slowed down combat,a better timeline
I honestly hope that man does not come back, fan mods have taken the game to greater heights than he has in 5 versions of the game, better balance, revamped updated improved old characters, actual skins. all of it much better than what he has done for us
If I was forced to choose only one Smash game to pass on to my kids, it would unquestionably be Brawl. This "hate" for the game isn't even real. People think this way from watching CZcams vids, but I never met anyone in real life that disliked Brawl, even when Smash 4 came out. Brawl is an incredible game with wonderful features. The Subspace Emissary is awesome, and Boss Battles mode is one of my most missed features in future Smash games.
Honestly between Brawl and Ultimate it’s a tossup as to which is the best smash game. In terms of content, it’s Brawl but when it comes to general gameplay Ultimate is unmatched. The two pillars of Smash imo.
Legit, those are the two best Smash games ever made. One has the best single-player content and new additions to the series while the other has the best gameplay and biggest roster.
The factually worse game in the series is the original Super Smash Bros game.
Lets go back to Brawl
Am i the only one who didn't mind the great maze???
Everyone hates this part of subspace so much, yet i beat this mode several time as a kid and it never bothered me in the slightest. I guess i just adored Subspace emmissary that much lol
I grew up with both Melee and Brawl, and I remember as a child absolutely adoring Brawl. Melee was cool, but to me, Brawl was more accessible, had better music, and a way better story mode. Now that I’m an adult, I like them both because of how different they are from each other. Brawl is just casual fun and Melee is the competitive monster! ❤
While I get, that people would have liked the levels in Subspace to resemble locations in the represented franchises, most just ignore why they are not here.
Because the World of Trophies is its own universe. Mushroom Kingdom and Hyrule don't exist here. These characters aren't exactly the ones from the games, but copies from them, which always lived in this universe.
I loved Brawl. It’s only “bad” by melee competitive standards
Am I the only one here that feels like AI wrote this script?
nothing in this world can make me hate brawl. it was my first smash game when I was 11 and those subspace cutscenes are etched into my soul
The worst smash is the 4th entry nut ultimate was a better story but huge missed opportunity for the dlc fighters
I was going to make a more detailed comment and lost my Train of thought when I saw that plushie. Why is your Mario bald??? 😭
I was always more in the LOVE camp myself. I remember playing this game for HOURS on my Wii and not having any problems!
The best is this game is this one, the subspace emissary, the graphics, stage builder, online, many game modes, tons of characters, tons of stages, do I have to say more
Worst? Brawl was the BEST honestly I really don't know how ppl could dislike it, other than broken characters and tripping (Live love SSBB)
"I forgot about the best feature: the deflicker option" ...which was also in Melee
(I know he was joking, don't worry, I'm not that dumb...)
While "Melee" does have better core gameplay, an overall better set of stages, and a better Break the Targets Mode, "Brawl" equals or surpasses it in every other way. (Poor online play was still better than no online play at all.) Overall, I give the edge to "Brawl" as the better game.
controversial take incoming:
the worst smash bros is smash 64 (still an amazing game)
the second best smash bros is brawl right behind ultimate at 1
For me Brawl is my favorite smash game. Fight me
I always hated how they gave the Zelda characters the uggliest artstyle possible.
We dont deserve Sakurai
The great maze isn't that tbh, I will agree the first time playing it is a nightmare if you don't know what your doing, however like you said that on your tenth playthrough you still didn't know where to go. But you never talked about the map that you can always look at when you pause the game (alot of people really don't talk about it which is strange cause it helped me alot the first time I played it even many years later when I go back to subspace)
Wii U is easily the worst. There's really no reason to go back and play it when you could play Ultimate instead. 3DS at least has Smash Run. Nothing will ever match the hype for Brawl. The Dojo was awesome.
I think Smash 4’s the worst one.
I totally agree
In terms of the overall package of a Smash game, Brawl is the best one in the series.
• The best single player campaign (more ambitious than Melee’s Adventure Mode and leagues better than World of Light)
• The most fun casual gameplay with items, Final Smashes, etc.
• A good deal of bonus content and extra modes, special shoutout to Coin Launcher and Masterpieces
• A solid selection of fighters and stages
• EDIT: Not to mention, the best OST in the series
While other Smash games may do better in certain aspects (Melee with its gameplay, Ultimate with its multiplayer content, etc.), in terms of everything a Smash game had to offer and how well it was executed, Brawl definitely did it best.
But "Ultimate" has better core gameplay and includes everything that "Brawl" does plus quite a bit more (as long as you reasonably consider Spirits to be replacement Trophies and Spirit Battles to be replacement Event Matches). The only thing "Brawl" really has over "Ultimate" is a somewhat better adventure mode.
@@Compucles As I mentioned in my original comment, Subspace is leagues better than World of Light. IMO, it’s *way* more than “somewhat better”.
@@BLamb Even so, that still doesn't make up for how "Ultimate" is pretty much equal or better to "Brawl" in every other way, especially the core gameplay.
@@Compucles If we’re strictly talking about multiplayer, I agree; Ultimate is the best when it comes to multiplayer content, and the core gameplay from a less casual standpoint is improved over Brawl’s. However, Brawl is more balanced as an overall game because it has the best casual gameplay for multiplayer IMO, which for me gave me the most casual fun I’ve had in an official Smash game, and by far the best single player. In terms of the overall package, the Smash game with great multiplayer and the best single player > the Smash game with the best multiplayer and mediocre single player.
@@BLamb No, "Ultimate" has much better gameplay in any form, single player or multiplayer, competitive or casual. The gameplay in "Brawl" is just way too floaty, even for casual play, not to mention the terrible inclusion of random tripping.
"Ultimate" also has equal or better single player content in every way save for the single exception of their respective adventure modes.
When you said “Kirby cooks you up in a stew”, the ad “What’s Cooking” played.
I never realized that such big features like the Final Smash & the Assist Trophies started with Brawl! Btw, it's still criminal that Shadow was still demoted to Assist Trophy status in Ultimate, SERIOUSLY SAKURAI!?

Though I do wish a few N64 stages made it in too.
If you were there at the time, you KNOW where you were the day Sonic was revealed.
The Worst?!
I don't think so.
I still think it was the best.
I don't like it either, it feels slow and the weird mechanic of slipping and falling felt more clunky and stupid.
Brawl is too good. I don’t care what anybody says. Brawl is easily a top 3 smash game for me. I don’t even care. This was my smash game. I played this all the time before 4 came out. Easily one of the best games I’ve ever played.
Super smash bros Brawl is only bad to melee competitive players, so if you're looking to play the game for fun these are the last people you wanna ask about this game because all they gonna focus about is the gameplay and nothing else, they forget about how better the roster of characters is while having third party characters, cool stages, amazing soundtrack, a cool addition of Final smashes and assist trophies for fun hectic Matches, masterpieces, more trophies and a Teeny tiny mode called the SUBSPACE EMISSARY which is the best thing that happened to a smash bros game
I know this is long but this game was truly special to me, it introduced to Nintendo as a whole and I'm grateful to this game for that
Not even just "the gameplay", but "their gameplay."
Who cares about any of all the awesome shit when there's no wavedashing and tripping, am I right?
What cool stages? Too many of the new ones in "Brawl" are too gimmicky. "Melee" has an overall better set of stages.
Otherwise, I agree with you.
@@Compucles pictochat, warioware shadow moses island and halberd would like a word with you
And yeah there are some bad ones but so does melee it has really good stages and also bad stages just like any smash game, I won't call all stages bad just because of a bunch of bad ones am i right? and also being gimmicky isn't a bad thing at all it's better than being bland and uninteresting
@@GamingTopTen i'm not against melee players, of course a good gameplay is essential even tho i'm not much of a competitive player but i still enjoy watching melee tournaments , it's just that i hate it when they bad-mouth brawl just because of one mistake and then they disregard the other good things about this game
You're telling me people play games for the gameplay and not consuming brand IPs?
Nah, that award goes to Smash 4.
Smash 4 is good.
@@CuteRedPanda64 yes, thank you
@@wlliamson53 the award goes to n64
@@CuteRedPanda64it is but brawl Hits different
While it's the worst game for competitive fans, it's the best game for casual fans.
Ever since Project M existed, that's where Nintendo started to go into a dark path where they're gonna go hayware to ban many fan projects and stuff cause of protecting their IP's too much. That's what happens when these competitive Melee fans who are selfish for nostalgia to change things how it is from before like the mechanics from Melee is what caused this whole mess what Nintendo is today. I could be wrong on that, but that's where I noticed this pattern event how Nintendo changed this attitude overtime.
Really nice video! Although I’m gonna have to disagree about Brawl’s Target Smash mode. I can understand how the removal of fighter-specific challenges in favor of some comparatively basic ones could be considered a downgrade, but to me Brawl’s setup allows for more freedom, creativity and replayability in regards to time-attack, which was always the most enjoyable aspect of Break The Targets for me. Because any stage can be played with any fighter, I can strategize based on the stage layout and fighter’s move sets to achieve the best time. It feels amazing getting a new record after perfecting a route I planned and practiced, and all this is twice as fun in multiplayer, which I played a TON of with my brother, so I am biased in that way. Brawl’s Target Smash could’ve been so much better with more interesting stages but fundamentally I still prefer it just a little more than 64/Melee’s.
Brawl is not the worst, nor is it bad, not viable in the competitive scene? Who gives a sh?
Regardless tho no one talks about tripping, no matter who u r
Today, I found out that Brawl released in Japan on my birthday!
Brawl is my favorite, has the best content, a fun ass story mode and while the controls might not be the best it has a charm to it so I do not think it’s the worst, U is probably that
No no. The real worst smash game is the wii u
Absolutely no game did marketing like Brawl. To this day, I still thank the Smash Bros Dojo for my good sleep schedule.
The original game still has the best TV commercial, though.
Remember on all those forums back when Brawl was in the oven where people were like, "Sakurai, if you're reading this, please put in Sora, Ridley, Crystal, King K. Rool, Shadow the Hedgehog, Shrek, Goku, Brick from Anchorman, a living can of Dr. Pepper, and my girlfriend Betty!" As if Sakurai spends his time reading English forums on the ass-end of the internet.
I'd love to know where people even get the idea that characters like Shrek & Goku even qualify, I don't remember where I read it but I remember reading a thing about the Smash 4 character DLC submissions where all characters must fall under specific criteria to qalify:
1. Character must have originated in a video game, or from something relating to video games (Which I think is why Lucario & ROB qualify, because Lucario came from a Pokemon movie & ROB was an NES peripheral)
2. Character must come from a video game franchise that's had at least 1 game on a Nintendo console, even if that character wasn't in any of those games (At the time of Cloud's release, FInal Fantasy 7 had yet to get a release on any Nintendo console, but Final Fantasy in general started out on the NES so he still qualified)
You don’t need to baby Pikmin as a weak franchise. It sells more than Metroid. You also cut Olimar in your “cut the roster” video even though he represents a major Nintendo series, and you put him in the “one-off-Nintendo-thing” section. Pikmin isn’t some really small thing, it’s bigger than a bunch of franchises in Smash. Stop treating it like crap.
@@thecatinthehat125 I would cut Falco, Dr Mario, dark Pitt, dark Samus, dark Link and Toon Link. Would replace them with Challenger, Circus Charlie, Bomberman, Lode Runner, the Lee twins and Popeye
Dedede grab release up-smash on wario makes me feel some kinda way
Brawlternative really revived brawl content all over 🙏😭
they can say what they want about brawl, but that subspace adventure was the best story mode in the smash series next to melee’s adventure mode
22:46 Actually, you find the fighters BEFORE the Great Maze.
You only fight their fake counterparts to unlock the final boss.
24:54 Also, I don't get this part...
My biggest complaint about the smash roster is how Zelda hasn’t really gotten any extra representation since melee. 3 links, 2 Zeldas and ganon compared to how many fire emblem characters we got is wild considering how unique and natural a unique Zelda character would fit in The game like impa or skull kid
