Staining and finishing your kitchen cabinets can save $$ on your renovation. It's not something that is hard to do and it's a great DIY project for rentals. www.amazon.com/s?k=minwax+sta...
If you toss a solid wood conditioner on before you stain, it'll help control some of the blotchiness and bare spots. Keeps it cheap, probably only adds another $50 or so in expenses.
Man someone gotta hate having tenants but love the cash flow. I'm not having people live in a house I wouldn't live in. Not only are the cabinets ugly but the stove white fridge black. I rather just pay someone that's gonna do it right the first time. Thanks for sharing the idea of trying for sure.
So far everyone seems to like it. Rentals are very long term investments, cashflow normally comes later in life. I'm still investing meaning I dont get cashflow but still putting money into rentals.
Menards mainly due to it's the closest. These are the cheapest unfinished ones. If you do a lot of the work yourself when updating or remodeling or at least purchase the stuff for it, make sure where ever you go to check into getting a contractors credit card. Don't use it for the line of credit but for the rebates. Over a year's time if you shop there a lot it really adds up. Lowe's for example also gives a Veterans discount! If you like shopping more local (even though it's higher) most local stores will also give you a discount if you shop there often for supplies.
The glow of unfinished spots came through along with uneven application. It definitely made the cabinets look cheap. I used grey cabinet paint and my cabinets came out looking very expensive. I think perhaps grey Stain only works if your going to put in the hard work. Thank you
Yeah I agree. I used gel stain on my unfinished cabinets and did just 2 doors at a time so I could do the wipe off exactly the same time for color consistency.
There’s no way that was how it was supposed to look 😂😂😂
I thought the color turned out great! There are a lot of different color stains out there to choose from!!
Cedric Clay Gray? They turned out brown.
After watching these horrible results I decided that paying more for finished cabinets makes big sense.
🤣🤷♀️

Did you wipe off the stain after you applied it?
I didn't since I used the foam brushes and it applies it think, I also did two coats and two coats of clear coat.
It’s not refinishing when they start out unfinished
Can I use a Varathane Gel Stain or Minwax Gel stain instead?
I used Varathane Gel stain. Worked out beautifully. Key is timing and the wipe off so its even not blotchy
The gray started out nice but I didn't like the finish.

:O take those down, sand lightly, spray with quality paint, 2 light coats of clear, call it a day. you should never stain again
I don't think you guys get that I was going with a rustic look with the gray! Bahaha I think it looks great!
@@thatslumlordlife I like a rustic look, but this is more of a poopy look 💩
It's gray, not brown! 🤣
You should of hit them again.
Wash, sand, caulk, paint, seal. Fuckouttahere-
Lol that kitchen looks worse lol that's so funny . Next time also remove the cabinet doors before painting them . This guy is Macgyver.
Looks worse? there wasn't a kitchen there!! haha It's stain not paint! no need to remove doors! ;)
That looks horrible unless you’re going for a retro 80’s married shabby not so shiek
